This still works for the most current version. Going to beta and downloading the beta worked for my current headset that was having issues with being detected. Thank you very much.

@Amber go to the steam library within steam, search for steam be, right click on steam vr and go to properties, from there you go to BETAS, there will be a drop down menu and you choose the one that works on your OS.

I just got my PC yesterday and this happened to me. I can see my desktop display but when I attempt to launch SteamVR in vr it says it wasnt detected

I have an issue I'm not sure if others had. Anytime I link the headset and linkbox to my PC it shows the homescreen of my monitor but my Vive headset shows a bunch of overlapped jumbled pages. Once I disconnect my headset from the PC it goes back to normal.

So this question will probably get buried but basically the default folder that steam puts files in says its D: but for some reason it's trying to put SteamVR into C: which doesnt have enough space, please someone help

Any fix for error 214 "The current HMD required a driver that is not installed" but I can't find the drivers anywhere. I'm using Vive cosmos elite. My Viveport is up to date and so is my SteamVR. Anyone know the solution?

im on rift s and whenever im playing a game from steam example half lyfe alyx i cant use my controllers but when i play an oculus game or steam games like blade and sorcery or pavlov they seem to work today i installed boneworks so i download some mods but the game wont open bc i need to use my controllers

Hey mate, I've got a simailar problem but I've got error 208 - Headset Display Disconnected. "Please make sure your video cables are securely connected. The headset's display was not found." I've reset it and it just comes back with the error. Ive pulled all cables put and put them back in and still have the problem. Headset's light is also a static red. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Greg Goosen same thing happened to me and it’s hard to fix in one way. Most of the time you have to update steam itself (or SteamVR) but I’ve also had to resort to updating my pc. If that doesn’t work, try unplugging your base stations & plugging them back in (for some reason that worked for me) or just reinstalling SteamVR itself. If none of these work, you might just have to experiment & figure out something. Best of luck!

Bought an oculus rift yesterday, headset is working fine and is connected. Downloades SteamVR, and it keeps telling me to plug in my headset. Even though it's working fine. No matter what I do (replugging cables, re-installing steamVR, rebooting pc), it keeps giving me the same message and I cant get it to work. someone help please

@@blackphysicalexperimentation Ahh, I fixed my issue from the HTC VIVE, just had to change USB ports on my HTC VIVE (Inside the headset)

My steam does not have the option to downgrade steamvr versions. The new 1.5.2 beta branch tells me i need to update my oculus software, though I have a vive. MY friends vive completely avoids this problem on my own computer. For some of you, this might not be a software issue, but rather an HMD one. If you know anybody with a vive, check if their headset works on your computer, or check if your headset works on someone elses computer. Best of luck!

The same thing happened to my friend with his Vive (HMD issue) so best of luck to you! Your completely right; that issue is hardware based. It might have to do with the consumer model version you have, as this was presumably the issue with my friends Vive. There’s 2 versions, and the way you can tell which one you have is by looking for these features: the 1st consumer hmd comes with the 3 headset cables “sandwiched” together and the 2nd consumer hmd has them in an “all in one cable”. You can also tell through the color of the straps on the controllers: the 1st edition has grey straps and the 2nd edition has aqua blue straps. So unfortunately you might have to upgrade your Vive. Hope this helped!

Update: my friend found a fix but doesn’t remember how he fixed it :( Vives are very finicky when it comes to software and hardware, so I hope you find a solution!

gvito1 Update from the future, I bought a new headset off of Ebay and everything works perfectly now. I'm 100 percent sure it was a hardware based issue. I hope this helps someone!

My htc vive is going nuts, its going all over the place between having a critical error, bluetooth connection issues, and unexpected problems like 204 and 203. It switches up the problem everytime i fix the current one. And im about to break this thing over my damn knee. What is happening and how do i fix it?

moviemaker2011z I had this happen when I originally bought my Vive, and the best fix I found was just updating NVIDIA Drivers through GeForce Experience. If you don’t have an NVIDIA Graphics, card, I don’t know how to help out besides updating windows / your graphics card. Best of luck fixing your Vive!

this works for some people but not all. what i had to do was this. all you have to do is reboot your vr headset and pc. then dont open anything on the your quest if you are using it. take a cable and plug it up to your quest and pc. then open the oclues app and you want to open steam vr in it. then get out of ever thing and open virtual desktop then open steam vr in it. and that should have done it. hope this helps.

Yeah, they really didn't need to make this so complicated. One time I spent 5 hours researching a fix to another bug, I know how much it sucks. Regarding your comment, are you sure that you clicked the betas tab? The general tab doesn't have a dropdown menu to fix it.

Hey, its probebly a bit late to comment but I got a issue, it recognizes that my headset is there like the little headset and controller icons are glowing but when I load a game it says oculus connected has failed please check your headsets connection and try again and it keeps happening and its driving me up the wall anyone got any ideas?

I don’t know much about Oculus since I’m a Vive owner, but I have worked with the CV1 in the past and what I have had work with my friends headsets is literally just uninstalling and reinstalling Oculus Home and / or SteamVR. If that doesn’t work, like I said I don’t know much about Oculus, so I would research the problem (sites like the Steam community page and Reddit have helped me with similar issues). Hope you get it fixed!

manudraco Are you using a Vive or Oculus? If it’s a Vive then check the connections to your pc & link box, but if it’s an Oculus you might have to install Oculus Home first before you can do anything with SteamVR. Best of luck!

do the steamVR performance test so you can see if your laptop/pc is capable or not cause thats probably a problem with your cpu and gpu

I don’t know much on the oculus quest with link cable or how to fix the issues, but if it’s anything like Vive possibly restarting the headset / unplugging & plugging the cable back in might help. If this doesn’t work, it might have to do with oculus software on your pc not being up to date / working. I hope your issues gets fixed, best of luck!

From what I’ve read, if any of the fixes in this video don’t work, it might be one of the ports on the pc end (usb 3.0, hdmi, or the linkbox). If you just bought the headset, check that the usb is in a usb 3.0 port and the hdmi is plugged directly into your graphics card. If these don’t work, it might be an issue with the cable. Hope you find a fix soon!

USB 2.0 usually has a white plastic piece on the port and USB 3.0 always has a blue plastic piece on the port

how to fix this issue on my HTC Vive. I get the error "Your GPU is ahving trouble communicating with your HMD, resulting in an HDCP error. Try removing any cable adapters or extenders you are using. Try another port on your GPU if one is available. Use the reset link below to reset the HMD so the GPU will try again." Steam VR loads and i can see the game also in my headset for some time. then after some time it starts to go dark and on again untill finally it stops working and the error message appears. I found out that some games i can play for quite some time and other games it just flickers at a certain point it loads and doesnt load onto the headset. Please help me.

This video is out of date. The 108 error can't be fixed like this anymore. SteamVR Beta isn't any better and after more than a year and a half Valve hasn't done anything to address their broken software.

i have the same issue got it yesterday, I tried every single workaround i can find. nothing solved. it I am thinking of clean Windows installation which should fix the issue if its software driver stack bullshit somewhere have you find any solution ????
