I have this issue all the time. It drives me crazy. I noticed it happens most often when using something that runs on a Chromium-base, including Chrome and Brave, but also Electron apps like VS Code, Teams, Notion, etc. Thanks for making this video.

Chromium Based stuff does seem to be the trigger. I never see it in games or anything like that.

Thank you Brian for talking about this screen flickering issue. Same issue on latest Windows 10 too. I could replicate the flickering by copying and pasting files, then the Window would show "Not Responding" and flickering. Two paths I have used to fix this issue, roll back several Windows Updates OR change the refresh rate to 48 Hz or 60 Hz. Noticed the update sets the refresh rate to some random non-supported amount like 60.0004 Hz or 60.0028 Hz.

Britech09 once again solves my Windows problems. After I switched from HDMI to DP my computer would get these glitchy looking vertical lines on the monitor while the monitor was almost all black and the image of my screen was all hazy and wouldn't go away until after a few of startup or if I managed to open chrom and play a video. I knew it wasn't my cable because it was a new cable and I just switched my GPU to a new one so it wasn't that either.

In Options in DDU has a option to prevent the windows auto update after restart in normal mode. And windows will use the basic graphics until you install the downloaded driver. Thanks and have a nice day!

Folks. While you should reinstall your gpu driver (I found an error in the event log that said the install was corrupted), also check dism /sfc and repair those. I found that dism / sfc reported some things were corrupted, so I got that fixed as well.

DDU has an option to reastart to safe mode - better to use that than using msconfig boot tab. Run ddu go to options and check two bottom settinsgs (in advanced options group) - ddu safe mode dialogue and disabling windows update to install gpu drivers (as they tend to be rather old - wddm drivers). Accept the changes and close DDU. Run it again and it will ask you if you want to restart to safe mode. No need to change msconfig settings twice (once to enter safe mode) and once to disable safe mode (while in safe mode).

my laptop is ASUS rog i5 with windows 11,actually my laptop screen got slightly flickers only when i move the screen lid, but yesterday, when I switch ON the laptop the screen got completely black, and when I move the lid up and down It load the screen and this is happening every time when I switch ON the laptop. Did my display get loose from the motherboard????

I recently helped a customer from a seniors community who had red distortions on everything that was black on her screen. I shared her screen on mine with Quick Assist. I didn't see any distortions, but she did! I removed the driver from the device manager. A restart solved the problem. So I was lucky the problem didn't occure again.

Having an issue with Photo Viewer, getting a message "Windows Photo Viewer can't display picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space(if it's almost full) and then try again." --- It' doesn't do it for every picture, windows 10 and windows 11. any ides. Thank you

Hi my refresh rate is set 60.049 Hz i think this probably causing my screen flickering but i don't have other options than 60.049 Hz is there any methods to have a refresh rate of 60 Hz for example ?

Thanks for the advise here. Encountered this screen flickering issue after I installed Viber for Windows 10 and everytime Viber would stop working, the screen flickering would start and I had to restart my laptop. :(

The more I watch your vids, the more I don't want 11.... windows seems to be in a constant beta state...10 or 11 and consumers are the guinea pigs for their updates. So, 11 is flickering.... oh I really enjoyed your VLC video...did not know a lot of those features.

Same, brand new laptop and the screen starts flickering 2 days in, I suggest updating the drivers using Drivers Cloud. If it doesn't work, you may have to contact the manufacture's support as it could be a faulty graphics card. That is, if you ruled out the possibility of it being an issue with the actual screen.

I have this mostly when I watch RU-vid video NOT in Fullscreen.. in Fullscreen its all good xD (tested on different brwoser too). When I play video Games its all fine, same on GPU stress test (Tested Furmark too) all fine :D So my Graphics card is fine, When Microsoft don't fix this.. I think then I need (when its getting worse) to reinstall WIndows.. -.-

I've downloaded the graphics tester and my screen is still jumping up slightly and going back into the regular screen. It discolours when it jumps up. And nothing so far has helped a damned bit. I think my computer's fucked! I don't want to pay to have it fixed again. I think a new laptop is in order or maybe a desktop instead. I'm just sick of all this digital bullshit! I can't reach in and fix it like plumbing or a car when you can see something wrong. It's all at the mercy of the CHINESE which make everything! My advice is to pay for QUALITY instead of cheap garbage like HEWLETT PACKARD or DELL!

Everything worked fine. But after I played a game for an hour. It just glitched. I tried updating windows, I tried uninstalling a driver and reinstalling it. I unplugged the gpu and replugged it in. Uninstalling nvidea and reinstalling it. I tried almost everything I even tried the DDR. It still doesn't work. The thing is I bought the graphics card 2 weeks ago. And they said that when everything doesn't work. Then that means that the gpu is old which it isn't. Please help me. That would mean so much to me, instead of buying a new 300€ gpu.

Whenever I install a new display adapter, after the driver is all setup and running OK, the first thing I do is to alter the default settings for automatic driver updates, and set the software to update *ONLY* to *STABLE* versions, as stable versions are updated far less frequently. In my experience, allowing beta versions results in a monthly headache of failed updates, restarting, DDU-ing the beta driver, re-restarting, re-installing the latest stable driver, re-re-restarting, etc., ad infinitum.😕 It's a real PITA!🤬 I'm not a gamer, BTW. 😉
