Just remember before you spend a lot of on these engines … they are rated at 3600 rpm W/o a cast iron sleeve you can wear the block out fast as I’ve learned the hard way. Billet rod ,flat piston , arc aluminum flywheel Vm 22 carb 22lb springs, port polish head ( non hemi) chromoly push rod, ratio rockers 1:3 , header pipe …. after all these improvements Awesome Power Wore my block out ! If you just want a little more power Np the stage 1 build is ok and engine will last a good while.

If you up the power output you should keep track of the head bolt torque. Take a reading before you start and record it along with the engine temperature. Regularly check the torque at the same temperature. Over time there can be normal stretching of the bolts which shows up as lowered torque. If the reduced bolt torque shows up very soon then you likely are exceeding the design parameters of the engine.

These engines are ran at much higher than 4100 RPM under much greater loads than a snowblower. The head bolt torque is never a concern. On a stock engine like this, head bolt torque is the least of your concerns.

@@Deucealive75 Agreed the head bolt torque is often the same on stock as it is in the racing community where you are talking about hitting rpms of min. of 5800 sometimes up to 7500, even 9000. So no head bolt torque is not something to be concerned about, plus all that is being adjusted here is idle rpm, so I'd suggest just leave it alone unless you are snowblowing 2" snows often and seeing issues throwing it far enough. Yet those issues should be rectified with a impeller kit first and surprising as this is the longer chute which, I figured before that video was not going to give much benefit as it did.

I put the 212 predator on my Murray 24”, last year worked great wasn’t as cold,this year not so good the Venturi in the carb kept freezing up, so I had to do some mods to get warm air to the carb,then the fuel tank wouldn’t vent real well so the engine kept running out of fuel an had to restart it working on solving that issue…

Many people messaged me about keeping and fixing the tecumseh engine to keep it more original but I have absolutely no luck with those engines. They drive me nuts.

I put a 420 on my late 70’s 32” snothro much better performance and doubled the height of my shoot and it works great I only use 1 or 2 gears as 3 and 4 makes me almost have to run to keep up with it

The Honda nlowers have some real gurus that uptune their engines. Using an exhaust gas analyzer showed that a larger orifice was beneficial...and is. It likes to carbonize the plug now but thats easy to remedy.

Have you greased the front augers bearings? Or checked the grease in the gearbox? If you need it, why not use a synthetic low temp grease? Possibly with teflon in it. Might take away some restriction therefore adding power. or extra torque.

Arnold cranked up the RPM on his Choppa! Lol! I am very happy with this mod! Put a better chute on this too recently and it really sent it! Thanks for being a cool fan small block!

Wouldn’t you have been better changing to a smaller pulley on the auger side to get more overall RPM’s on the actual auger assy? I did this on an old Craftsman and it’s a beast. Not toying with the engine (yes, I did increase the jet size).

I have a Ariens 824 El. I want to do this. But my shoot control has a bracket that bolts on to the Tecumseh engine. Is there. a way around that. ?

If you chute is somehow in the way you could take the chute off, make your adjustment and then reinstall your chute.

Sick blower man. Random idea for cosmetics that I have done, is take the chains off and paint them with AC orange from tractor supply or Ariens orange from a dealer. Makes it pop!

The question you need to ask is what cylinder pressures was the engine designed to maintain. I am very skeptical of the engineering in reverse engineered engines. Pull a head bolt from a real Honda and test it against a head bolt of a clone.

I should probably mention, that I have a brand new Predator 212 now at home. Still need to order the shaft sleeve adaptor and key. I also have the hour/tach meter now too. This is gonna be fun. I finished the impeller upgrade today. It was a hassle, but I got it done. I just need some snow!!

I wonder if its possible to put in an 8 or 13hp predator engine. I saw the shaft size on those is 1" so id have to get another top pulley for tge 1" shaft.

I don't think this really adds anymore power, more or less when you hit heavy snow the governer should be upping the rpm to combat this. The only area where I see this helps is whe you are snowblowing smaller amounts of snow, sometime it isn't enough snow to really up the governer and therefore in this situation yes you would throw that small amount further. I guess for the small amount of time a blower like this is running a higher rpm is probably not the worst idea, just not too necessry I don't think.

What are your thoughts on increasing the pully size for the auger from 3" to 3.5" or even 4" to get more torque out of the auger? cheers Damien

@bc454irocz89 wrong, bigger shieve sizes= more torque, less speed. You're gaining circumference compared to the 3/4 shaft spinning 4100rpm a 4" shieve is over 5x bigger than the engine output shaft so the belt will spin 5x slower. Around 770rpm but gain about 5x more torque. Speed and torque are equally proportional

@@griffinphilemon5083 no you're wrong impeller rpm = engine rpm x engine pulley diameter/ impeller pulley diameter. Making the engine pulley bigger means faster impeller speed

I like 4200 for max HP and then it drops to max torque for the 212 and 224.

Yes I will be honest but I don’t think this has been a waste of time or money! This has been a really fun project with incredible results so far! And if someone can take a used snowblower and make it operate like new again for less than 1/5 of the cost of a new one then hey that’s a win! Thanks for watching!
