I’m excited for your Tahoe project! I have a 2005 Yukon XL. It was my dad’s and he gave me the keys to it when I graduated high school with the condition that I’ll be the one maintaining it. Tune up, transmission service, differential service, u-joints, shocks, new tires, brake pads (changed for the first time after 140k miles) and rotors all done. 204k miles and still strong. I learned most of these things from RU-vid videos like yours! Keep up the good work and great content! Makes me want to start fixing all the buttons that don’t light up anymore, upgrading my OG stereo and changing my steering wheel too!

Great job on this video and install! I've done two of these in my Suburban and Silverado and the one additional step I like to take is replacing the cigarette lighter with an in-dash USB port. You can also get one with HDMI if you have that coming out of the head unit. I really makes for a clean install and then you just need a standard USB cable to your phone.

I had that same backup camera on my suburban, it gave me a lot of trouble fogging up and getting hit while loading up the cargo area. I just ended up buying a small stainless steel housing camera on Amazon and mounted it just under the bumper but above the hitch receiver. It's been really good so far.

Very easy way to test your intake manifold gaskets will be to spray some water during a cold start. If the engine shakes more the gasket is leaking once it warms up the material expands. I would recommend doing knock sensors while you’re in there they tend to get corroded over time with the short harness

We just bought a 2005 GMC Yukon SLT loaded with options for $1300, it did have a loud whining noise coming from the front differential so we replaced it with one out of a wrecking yard that was in very good shape it was difficult to find one with the correct 4:10 gear ratio that was also all wheel drive. We are enjoying your videos and we are planning to do many of the same things to ours so thank you for blazing the way for us and showing us how your doing everything your doing to your Tahoe, please keep up the great work.

Hey dude, very nice videos. The codes following a diagnostic flow, this this common the 1 half of the engine. Being old school, I use my 80’s propane enrichment tool with a length of brake tubing to get into tight places. The fuel pressure regulator is common to all cylinders. Use a fused jumper wire and a cheap “Lab Scope” to view the fuel pumps wave form, that should pull 7.5 amp, but with an even stabile waveform. “Tech Tip” If doing intake gaskets, place a thin coat of dielectric grease on both sides. This not only helps with 2K seal, but allows the silicone seals to slide and move a little. Just a tip. Nice job on the videos and I understand most don’t have a “Lab Scope” in the garage. But at the dealer, I used the primary side of the engine scope, only buying an amp probe. As each commutator plate passes under the spring loaded brush, conducts amperage thru it. Pressure is easy as controlled by the regulator. Every time you fill the tank, their is dust, dirt unless an EVAP failure like driving dirt roads. If you replace the tank solenoid because it can’t seal, place a foam/cloth filer over it as it is open all of the time, until it runs an EVAP test for small or larger leaks. Good video.

I don't know if you solved your engine light problem but I ran into the same issue in my Yukon where the light would talk about lean bank issues with 1 and 2. I tried changing out the fuel pump and filter and that didn't fix it. Eventually figured out it was the FlexFuel module going bad. They're about $300 online so I went to the junkyard and bought one for $8 and the light went out. I also gave it a Seafoam treatment through the PCV valve and the truck seriously runs like new. Anyway, thanks for all the videos. All have been very helpful and we appreciate the time you put into them.

Yet another excellent video. I like the way your confidence is very reassuring, Even when you aren't 100% sure that exactly what step you're at is going as it should, you let the viewer know it can and will be solved. This is really important because so many of us are so afraid we'll screw things up we never even try. That's what we in the Royal Navy call "A life lesson."* One of the most comforting things to those of us similarly afflicted (blessed?) is how your OCD keeps everything looking professional. Most people think, "Radio, good. Me make loud now." You give thought to the fact that it won't be switched on 100% of the time, so it should LOOK good, too. Choosing a simple design - very subtle but clever, and refitting the mount with a couple of washers so the bezel fit better with less gap, top marks. Thanks for another superb video! Now, if you can make one on how to get Apple Carplay on one of those cheap $49 Amazon wonders you installed in the Malibu... *...I'm not really in the Royal Navy.

Agree , intake manif. gaskets. Dealer has an improved design gasket set. And, yes, do knock sensors while in there. Also rubber grommets at the intake bolt stations. My Tahoe would run rough on initial cold startup ....lean...vacuum leak at intake gaskets.....same DTC. Easy fix. Spray inside of plastic manif. with carb cleaner a couple of times to soften the crud and blast the inside at a coin car wash/power washer. Have fun. I’d also service the tranny immediately. Drop-the -pan technique....not back-flush technique. Back flush pushes filter gunk back into the system and the filter doesn’t get changed. Bad choice. Top off fluid with a synthetic. I know you know this stuff. Do diffs and transfer case fluids too. Coolant too. Just unsolicited advice from an old man. 250K on my 2001 Tahoe and it tows my equipment trailer...dual axles 4500# loaded with my carpentry tools.....5 days a week. Original 5.3 engine/trans/transfer case/diffs. Bummer is that rust is starting in usual Tahoe locations. I’ve gone through all the mechanicals including ABS module....send the circuit board to Module Masters. Cold solder joints in circuit board of said module is a classic failure with this series of truck. Mechanical fixes are straight forward but rust...that’s a pisser. I don’t weld. Should I spend the dough for a pro to do it or slick it up, sell and move on? Ideally, I’d like a rust free Z 71 with a toasted engine and swap in a LQ9 ...6.0 ..345 horses. These are great vehicles. Comfy. Cheap parts, lots of aftermarket parts options. Another thing I did.was clean the dirt from behind the weather stripping on the body . I placed 1/4” thick 1” wide peel and stick foam behind the weatherstripping which tightens up the door to weatherstrip fit. Eliminated wind noise. Also, replace the heating/cooling system filters under the dash. I’m enjoying your vids. Dave Heitman Semper Fidelis

I had a Pioneer installed in my 2004 Envoy, it had to use the adapter harness as well. I thought with keeping steering wheel controls the adapter would utilize the factory microphone built in with the OnStar, I was wrong. The installer mounted the mic right at instrument cluster, did not like the look of it there. Found a nice back up camera on Amazon to use, but again the installer instead of running wire through the factory rubber grommet that had the wires for tag lights and rear wiper/washer, he drilled through the sides of it and ran wire beside it. The adapter harness chime sounded awful. I had it all taken it back and had them remove the aftermarket radio and re-install factory radio, just was not satisfied with the look. Wish the installer would have said " hey this is how this will look, this is what I have to do, etc" I would have returned the stereo then so he would not have installed it. The Pioneer radio was great, sounded good, but the small buttons and trying to work it caused some distraction while driving so it was not worth it to me.

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500. It has 156k miles on it. I’ve spent around $3k on problems since I bought it a year ago. Had to replace fan clutch, alternator, brake lines, spark plugs, 16 push rods, 16 rocker arms, both rear brake rotors, all rear brake pads, one rear brake caliper, intake leak, and a few other things I can’t remember.. Coolant started leaking into the engine at some point, not good! Put some coolant leak sealant into it and it no longer leaks for now. Now the engine light is back on. Engine still makes a nice ticking sound all the time even with all the crap I’ve done. This truck has been nothing but trouble for me since I bought it.. previous owners must not have cared much for it.

That looks insane! could you maybe post a picture or make a short vid of how you did all the connections? was it easy and did the instructions tell you exactly what to do? I want to do this but looks complicated

Would love to see a 3 month update vid on the stereo. Any glitches you have experienced and what you did to resolve them. Thanks man!!

Get yourself a usb socket from a 07-14 Tahoe. Fits where the cigarette lighter is. I did that when I installed my double din. Makes for a factory clean looking install.

Nice to know. I was thinking of getting a universal usb socket to mount somewhere.
