For me your wonderful “waffling” is why I watch your painting tutorials almost exclusively now. Please, please DON’T CHANGE 🙏🏼My style is as far from yours as could be (Mexican Surrealist School) yet YOURS are the videos I consistently learn the most from! Watching you color glaze this painting is exciting, like watching an alchemist’s magic! Adore the colors and forms in this, particularly the “structure” in the background ( which was first the remnants of a castle, next the monument at the field of Waterloo) My only complaint is that this video isn’t 3 hours longer. I sympathize so with dental pain, it’s a horror like no other. Please get to a dentist and have it seen to, the idea of my friend Stuart in pain makes me sad. Another excellent and useful video, thanks so much. 🌹
I never thought I would say this, but I think I’m getting a tonalist bug. I think I liked the painting better before the colours were added. No offence meant Stuart. Thanks, Dave M (AUSTRALIA) 😎🇦🇺
Your style of painting and Bob Ross's style of painting are apples and oranges. But both you and him are very comforting to listen to and both you and him want to pass on the idea that anyone can paint.
Hell NO, don't ever stop your waffle young sir, very few people make me laugh out loud, but you do (and that hopefully came across as a compliment!!) :)
So interesting how an already great painting became even more exciting after adding colors. The horizon became so perceptible that it is far, far away. Since it is a very long painting, each smaller part of it is a small painting of its own. Absolutely amazing! Many thanks!
I’ve watched this twice already!Such helpful advice (“waffle “-Really??)The only way you are similar to Mr Ross is in your wonderful ability to relax the viewer and be completely genuine.Thankyou Stuart. Please don’t change. Mia 🇬🇧
Sir I can look at this landscape, I feel like I'm looking from a cliff, so beautiful and mesmerizing 💗💗💗💗 I wish I can paint like this in my channel aswell. I always look forward to your work, thank you so much for your teachings! 👏👏👏👏💗💗💗 Greeting from Houston, Texas Edda V Cupp 1/2Cupp
Really enjoyed watching this video. And please don't bother yourself with people who compare between two artists. I see that both you and Ross have different and unique art style. You don't have to worry about that just keep enoying what you do and let us see more of your masterpieces!
love your "everyday Joe" banter during the painting, and yes it makes me feel comfortable. Love your style, been painting only a few years and find your method refreshing and interesting, have subscribed and will continue to watch, thank you for your artistic insight.
"That green" shouldn't be "that green" so far in the distance. But yet you make it work. Its subdue and blended with tones and doesn't jump away at all. It just belongs there. These motifs that you do is not really something I have where I live, so I never really painted in this manner on whole painting. But I did used some of the techniques to great success and plan to do full painting in this style. Probably of some old tree with hills in distance and sky, cause like i said I don't really have fields of green here. Hopefully this world wide pandemic will end eventually cause I would really love to come visit you one day for some lessons. Until then stay safe and thank you for everything you do it means a lot to people.
Well i dont think you paint like Bob Ross..at all ..and he was the most kind man ..i took a class many years ago..he is deceased for a long while now..what you do have in common with Bob is your soft voice...and you are equally as good at giving so much information to the students or viewers..here..and i think you are equally a good person ...he was such a special person..May he RIP..
With every video of yours that I watch, I learn to become more relaxed. I often fall asleep, and I greatly appreciate your waffling. You're even making me wonder if I should try out oil painting as a new hobby.
Keep "waffling" Stuart, as we can pick up some gems from you! ...and yes, I've often seen the other side of the storm, bright light beyond. It takes observation.
I think the Bob Ross comparison was much more to do with the fact that you both had/have relaxing voices. Beyond that, there is no comparison. I don’t think you could ever be that camp! And The difference in paintings needs no comment.
Waffling is essential. I very much enjoy listening to you. Feels like a learned friend talking to me. I’m in Hudson Valley, NY by the way.. just so you know where one of your subscribers is. I’ve been studying what you do intensely, whilst trying to come up w/ ways to create tonal impressionistic landscapes in acrylics. I work w/ acrylics for practical reasons. Very small living space w/ no furless (I have a fluffy dog) space to let oil paintings sit & dry. It’s also more expensive that working w/ acrylics, so I decided to try working w/ that medium instead. Your tutorials have genuinely helped me advance my skill levels. In fact, i just finished a canvas based on your tutorials. I have no formal training in painting at all. Started learning how on RU-vid. I’ve been working at painting a year this month. My question is, nervous as I am about it, I’d really like to show you the painting if you’re interested, & wondered what the appropriate way to do that would be? I have FB, plus an Instagram account (I don’t use very much).
Greetings from Arizona...land of red rock landscapes..I would like to learn painting with oils,,,I’ve just started watching your videos...beautiful ...inspiring work..thank you...
there will always be some person out there who hides behind youtube, to make disparaging comments but ignore and they'll fade away and we who truly enjoy your streams will be left
The last person that you would remind me of is Bob Ross; in personality or painting style. Totally different in every way. Well maybe you both speak in soothing manners!
Waffle on, my good man. Your waffle is like music to my ears. Imagine a song with no words and no music.. your waffle is a bow to a violin. Please do not stop waffling.
Thank you for another wonderful video! I, for one, truly enjoy your “waffling”...please do not change. I think that people get a “Bob Ross” feeling from you because you create a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere when you are teaching...just as he did. However, there is where the similarity ends. Thank you, once again, for sharing your stories and techniques with us. Looking forward to the next one!💚💚💚
Your videos won't be the same without the "waffle". We learn from your talking as much as from your actual painting, so please don't stop talking to us, Stuart. And, yes, another stunning painting!
@@StuartDavies definitely not :) The old Bob was one of a kind, but definitely inspired by Bill Alexander. But for my taste his pictures were to smooth, lacked roughness, the real play of light and shadow, the correct color tones / saturation / luminance. But he was an excellent technician at the brush (hast beaten the devil out of it) and did alot for the art. I really like your authentic way and how you "feel" the picture and transpor the roughness/ strongness of beautiful landscapes.
I think oil paints have a certain forgiveness for little mistakes. And acrylic don't have that. If i made a little mistake with acrylic paint it was turning in to mud. And with oil paint i can scrape it of and start over or mix on the canvas and to rescue my painting. I like the way you conversate with us in your video. Hope you newer stop and make many more paintings. Greetings from the Netherlands,, Kitty.
Brilliant mr Stuart! Thank You once again! And please bring on the waffling! Your painting would still be beautiful ,but your lessons wouldn't be complete without Your explanations
Waffle on, Dear Sir! I love your stream of consciousness, your thought processes, and your wonderful dry sense of humor! And What's Up, Tiger Lily? Ha!
You do sound similar to Bob Ross Stewart. Take it as a compliment. He was great, and so are you. You both have a really great voice, and you both really have a great teaching method. Although not entirely the same, the difference is wonderful.🌹
I enjoy the talking as I learn while you tell us what you are doing. I love the Blue added and the green it came to life. I love the red too. I love all the colors in the sky. Amazied
To the person who said can they hve the instruction without the waffle.....they are missing the point entirely. Stuart your videos hark back to a nicer, more relaxed time. Please don't change the waffle, imo it makes your channel what it is...and that is all for the good!
No you R not like Bob Ross! I love the way you paint and I hate turpentine it is to dangerous. I don't beat my brushes throwing turpentine all aver the room. Scary to me.
You wouldn't be you if you didn't 'waffle',' Stuart - and we love you for it! It is precisely as you say - you get people relaxed, which holds their interest and it enables us to learn better. My sympathies on the toothache - I do hope it resolves itself soon, or you are able to get to a dentist. I have learned so much from watching you and I'm not even a painter in oils. Thank you for your videos and for your personality. With very best wishes from the UK.
Your color palette is completely different than Bob Ross,' particularly that shade of blue. I can't recall ever seeing a blue like that in any of Bob's paintings. His show got this bad cartoonist interested in painting. Your work is completely different and I much prefer your color choices.
The cloud formation you are referring to is what is called a “Squall Line” in the states. Here in Indiana it is a cold front moving in. It contains rain, heavy rain, strong strait-line winds, frequent lighting, tornadoes. Common here in the Midwest. And I like your comment about Bob Ross. Your voice is similar to his in that it provokes what is called. Autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR.. You can Google that one. Love the clouds.
Wonderful stuff! Such a stunningly evocative painting. Waffle?!! I don’t think so! Your videos are informative in a very friendly, almost personal way... as if we were all there with you. I love listening to your thought processes as you work. Bob Ross? Gawd no! For starters there are no happy little mountains or massive trees blocking the landscapes. Oh dear!
You are soft spoken as Bob Ross was. But totally different wit. Bob painted on public television. He did not get a pile of money there. His pile of money came from marketing his own paints and brushes and art supplies and training programs for certified teachers of Bob Ross style painting. Though your philosophy is the same. That anyone can learn to paint. Take care. Feel better soon I hope.👍😊
Bob actually got his liquid white wet on wet Style from another artist... I like the way Stuart paints so freely.. and erases what he does to change it even if I Think why did you do that... I liked it as it was but now I like it this way too.. I enjoy the waffle explaining...
I don't believe this, you have a cat called Tiger Lilly, so did I, a tortoise-shell. I went to Art College & we had to learn the various glazes like bones in a body for a medical student. Glazes add depth, the beauty of oil paint. Stay safe everyone
Bob Ross is a gateway to painting. You, you are the extension into depth and atmosphere. I think the reference was to your calming, relaxing demeanor. 🤟
Just LOVE your waffling. In lockdown Covid, watching your videos and listening to your waffling is better than very expensive therapy. Not to mention, I am learning lots, most of all...how to relax and forget all that perfectionist academic stuff I was filled with some eons ago but still can't recover from.....except now, I am coming around, thanks to you!!!! You are doing the world a very great service. Oh, and you make me laugh. As a Brit stuck on the Left Coast of America and unable to go anywhere right now, that is worth a LOT! THANK YOU:)))
I have spent considerable time with various teachers of the spiritual persuasion in my life and appreciate that you don't buy into the idea of "The customer is always right". IMHO there is a lot of value in learning to watch, listen and learn without trying to control a situation and the way you handle those queries are a hoot! One persons "waffler" is anothers goldmine of information...thanks Stuart.
Thank you Stuart. I hope your tooth problem gets resolved soon. When you feel up to it. QUESTION: What do you do to a painting so you can paint over it? Thank you.💜
This looks a lot like Castle Rock, Colorado USA. Probably 45 years ago, before development. Interstate highway 25 could be right out there on the left. Nice work sir. I like big expansive paintings. Thank you.
You're right about oil and acrylic. Oil is far better to paint with, so much more depth and character. Great vid as always, I'm watching all your glazing vids as I have a painting drying which I'm going to glaze for first time. 👍Ps. Like you're waffling!
There is so much more subtlety in oils than in acrylics. I have done true paintings in acrylic but they do not give you as much freedom as far as blending colors are concerned. They dry too quickly. Sometimes you can overcome this but it is difficult. I usually need an extender to accomplish this. Oils on the other hand, are much easier to blend. You have made this much more satisfying and so interesting. Thank you for sharing. And I love “waffling” especially when you’re really “cooking”.🥴
I recently stumbled on to your channel. I really enjoy your talent and your waffling. It's relaxing and informative. I started painting with Bob Ross classes through an instructor. I enjoyed it for a time. I've grown beyond it. I'm searching through styles and trying to develop my own through things I see and learn from others. My biggest pitfall is the inability to relax. Thank you for sharing. I'll keep watching.
You work very much as I have for many years with the layering and subtractive process with paper towels. I however do use acrylic with great success proceeding pretty much exactly as you. I find that the hues and values vary between the mediums oil/acrylic, but the primary difference is work time. For your style which is loose and quick it's just fine. I will put down an under painting and in an hour can begin with glazing, washes and more water color like transparencies. Learning a great deal from you that I'm sure will help with my efforts. Thanks for the great instruction.
Stuart , it is so wonderful to watch and listen to you. I enjoy your work. I too love darker or dramatic skies. I do love your work. Keep doing things the way you do. You are amazing! Thank you, Bonnie
Don't change. Your great. It is relaxing. I've turned on your video and not watched but just listened to you talking while I was painting. You remind me to just go with it lol.
I love Bob Ross but his talents were different like you said and dare i say he just wasn't as good technically. Especially his colors... and this will just be our little secret.
You don’t sound anything like Bob Ross, and your paintings are more realistic. He was a lovely man an inspired many many people but I feel you are a better artist. Just sayin’.
its amazing and great work with glazing painting become more beutifulll and all the colors lights and shads comes together and relates with each other god bless u sir
