How to grow Hostas from seed part 1

Welcome back to my little series on how to grow hostas from seed in this episode I show you how to use peat free compost to fill your seed tray and cover your Hostas with a fine layer of compost after that I put the tray to soak in a couple of inches / centimetres of water until the compost is damp I hope that you have enjoyed watching if so please subscribe thanks

Didn’t even know hostas had seeds. I have all kinds that I usually divide. That watering can was so tiny. It gave me a huge laugh. Thanks for sharing!

thanks for watching yes it wasn't a lot of water i just wet the surface to help it soak up from the tray of water it is in i did laugh 😆when i watched it back 😄😀

I’ve started to grow hosta seed , is ok outside cover up with a see through plastic lid … then bring it over winter…. Nothing had developed …. I think I’ve sow them in April this year!

I would definitely fetch them in before the first frost i would give them a little longer mine germinated quickly where did you get the seeds from

I collected some this year from my own, so I'll see how they germinate this Mar. I hear they won't be the same as the motha plant but I like hostas and any hosta will do for me. I like surprises.

that is exactly why i love growing seeds from the mother plant and not knowing what it will turn out like i find it really exciting how sad am I lol

I growing hosta seeds for the first time . Do you think starting in small pots? Or put the in a tray with a lid to germinate.

I would put in a tray and not put a lid on they take quite a bit to germinate but they will eventually please keep me updated good luck 😉

i have collected some seed pods but being mid august i am worried about keeping them over winter, can i keep the seeds and sow them indoors about february??

Hi can you put your hosta seeds when planted on the window self ?

yes but would keep out of direct sunlight until they germinate

@@_Happysowinghappygrowing the try I used hold water which I didn’t know , i think I’ve killed my hosta seeds going to try again, and sow them in trays and leave them the garage.

I’m growing hosta seeds for the first time , I’ve put on the window ledge, to germinate. Should I cover them ?

Got some fantastic news .. the hosta seeds have germinated… the best place is on the window shelf inside because it’s warm. them started & water them once or twice a week.! When is the best time to plant them outside?
