Funnily, I was experimenting with the frogstand yesterday and was like "what if I place my knees even higher" and felt that it was something really different and liked it. And now after this video I hope I'll finally be able to bandstand more than just 10 seconds of floppy fighting with the balance. Cheers guys

yeah Dave what I'm doing is building up my basic strength with pull ups and dips variations. .. can do London sit now for 20 seconds and just started handstand against the wall. .. core strength I have found is important so consindrating on that.. don't allow people to give you negative thoughts because of your age I can do things that 20 year old men can't do, so stay focused and remember age is something people put on you, don't allow them.. stay strong and keep going.. all the best ..

Can't wait to try this approach. Going just from a kick up with front away from wall wasn't very good and doing wall walks now but I can do a headstand straight into a kick up with legs up easier. So I think the frog stands will be better until I can then use my hips to pull myself into the wall and then eccentric strength!

School of Calisthenics learned it's definitely not easy keeping my arms straight in learning the crow and frog. I felt like my knees kept trying to rest on my elbows and not triceps. I always get frustrated bc I can easily pull my weight for pullups but struggle with anything handstand progression related

Always been taught, across several types of exercise (including yoga) that locking out your elbows in any move is a bad idea, rough on your joints and uses less strength. What's the workaround or logic here in terms of how you protect the joint? Otherwise love the idea/method and super well explained vid - nicely done.
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hi, thanks for the message. The answer to this one depends on who you're speaking to, what you want to learn and your strength and stability at end range. Straight arm strength is required for a well delivered planche so to build the strength you have to train at these outer ranges. Providing you're not hypermobile and have used a progressive approach during your early hand balancing time there shouldn't be any issue with moving to straight arm variations. The protection for the joint comes in ensuring you have enough rest between sessions so the connective tissues can recover. As with anything if you feel and pain or instability then stop doing those progressions and seek some advice. Hope that helps and thanks for the support, we really appreciate it. Tim

I think Bottom Up really helps to get you comfortable in a number of positions when getting into the hand stand. If you can be comfortable and stable in a variety of inverted positions, the actual straight hand stand will already be easily attainable. Thanks guys!

Hey guys great video by the way you guys are awesome. 👍 anyway I'd like to ask a question about handstands I've been doing them against the wall but I'm doing the handstand pushups, to build up the strength in my shoulders so is it possible to use the push-up bars to get that more range of Motion or would it not be safe or would it be better to actually invest in some proper parallette. Thanks guys.
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hey Wolfy Dragon, Building strength in a greater range of motion is a good choice. If you find it difficult to begin with, practice using slow eccentrics, into the deeper ROM, then kick back up to the start of the Handstand again. Seth

When I try this my wrists and shoulders are (mostly) fine, but I almost feel that my arms will snap at my elbows. Just a lack of strength or an indication of doing something wrong?
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hey! It's hard to diagnose what will be going on over here - However, more likely than not it may be a case of building both strength and confidence with this over time. If you've never done this work before, your tendons and ligament may need some time to strengthen and become accustomed to offering support for your elbow. BUT as I said at the start, it's hard to diagnose on here. My advice, take your time and don't overdo it, if you're just starting out. If you experience any severe pain, get checked in with a local medical professional who can help keep you safe! All the best! Seth

Everyone has to start somewhere, so I've been off to the site and downloaded your free starter book. 54 years of age, sat on my a*se all day at a computer. My goal an one minute handstand by December. Wish me luck! One quick question, how may push-ups do I need to be able to do before I should start trying as I busted up my knee badly falling down from a wall trying a handstand last night. I can only do five start push-ups with a three count down and up? Thanks in advance for any advice from you or others on here. Oh lastly have you ever thought of getting an app for android/ios? I think it would be a big earner for you if you can make as informative as your RU-vid channel ?
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hi Tony, thanks for the message. You're dead right about every starting at the beginning. I began following 2 shoulder surgeries after multiple dislocations. Not ideal but it comes with time, patience and the right know how, which is what we're hoping to help you with. Thanks for getting a copy of the beginners guide. If you can get a 15 second handstand by June we need you at the World Record Attempt. There are no magic numbers in calisthenics but it would be good to build them up do you can 3 sets of 10 reps as a rough guide. I would also include some wall walks, pike push ups and dips in your programme. Work hard at the beginners exercises and nail the foundations as this sets up everything else. We're in the process of redeveloping our website which will create an app like experience. We have tonnes of content planned and will all be focused on the coaching style you see here and helping you to Redefine your Impossible. Hope training is going well and the knee heals up soon Tim

Okay, so I have a question about elbows. Where should the inside of my elbow face.. in or forwards? I also struggle with my right elbow as I can't hyper extend it due to surgery and feel that is impacting on my straight arm form and strength. Any thoughts?
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Ideally, we want our elbows facing backwards. As we get into the frogstand or crow pose, we want to grip the ground with our fingers, and then feel like we're turning the ground outwards. This will help put our shoulders into a more stable position for us to work from. In terms of your right elbow, as you've had surgery, it's hard for me to know. If you experience any pain or lack of strength, seeing a local physio may be beneficial, to see if there is anyway around it. Seth
@ThinkNeurodiversity
@ThinkNeurodiversity 6 лет назад
School of Calisthenics hi Seth, the restriction with my elbow is simply that I can't lock it out at all. There a screw and a plate preventing that happening. So in terms of "straight arm" position I'm feeling like I'm always compromised. May upload a video to Instagram so you can see what I mean.
