This video is confused. Frog stand really will not help that much. It's a different set of muscles. You don't cover kicking up, tapping toes, pushing the ground away, balancing points on the hands...anything important really.
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Meh Thanks for the message. We think the frogstand is a good way to get people comfortable balancing on their hands. It’s achievable and helps build confidence. That’s an important thing in learning to handstand. Also the other things you mention are covered in our handstand guides. This video just gives a few tips to practice and wasn’t designed to be an all inclusive tutorial. It sounds like you can already handstand so I hope your training is going well and your having fun with it. Tim

I don't know if you thought of this, but it may be possible to go from frog pose (with the yoga blocks in front of us) into a head or handstand. I've never tried it but in Vinyasa yoga, a movement from frog pose into a headstand and then back to frog pose is common. Your use of the blocks is a good prop! I've never seen it before. Thank you!!!!

Got frustrated trying to do the frog stand - couldn't even hold it more than a second. The balancing wasn't the issue for me I think I just didn't have the muscles. For anyone having trouble with this try starting with other shoulder and arm exercises. I started doing pike push ups daily and now I can hold the frog stand 5-10 seconds.

I have always want to be able to do this...any tips for the stockier/heavier framed folks wanting to learn (apart from lose the chub)?
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hey Stuart! First general tip would be to find a progression within your current ability, and practice getting strong in that position. That may be just starting with the frogstand. We have seen many people - who fit your description - learn the frogstand and handstand hold, without shedding any weight. These feel difficult for the majority when they first begin. So I'd love to encourage you to dive into some regular practice, and watch your progress over a month/2 months of regular practice. A second tip, would be to use exercises like the Pike Push Up to develop Strength in Overhead pushing. We have a video released recently that should help with that! Check out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rTIiqtGu4bA.html Hope this helps, and gives you some encouragement! All the best! Seth

After achieving and mastering the hand stand, what’s next? like how long to hold it for that would be beneficial? Reps and sets?
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 5 лет назад
Thanks for the message. It really depends on what you want to do. Some people want to focus on more static handstand variations or you can look at the strength approach and learn handstand push ups. The options are endless as there is so much in hand balancing to play with. The time you need to hold for and the reps and sets also depend on what you want to achieve?

This may sound like a daft question but is it perfectly doable to do a handstand if I am slightly fat/overweight. I'm not slim nor have a six pack but I am able to do a good set of 6-8 chin ups no problem as well as other body weight exercises such as dips and press ups. Or do I need to have a slim figure?

The only thing is how many reps of this do we need to do daily to actually improve??
@SchoolofCalisthenics
@SchoolofCalisthenics 6 лет назад
Hey! So in terms of reps in sets, the quirky answer is - it depends. Depending on current strength levels, training regimen and much more, reps to improve is going to change. However, holding a frogstand and it's variations are isometric exercises. When training to develop isometric strength we want to aim for around 1 minute of Time Under Tension in a single session to create a strength adaptation. An example could be, 6 sets of 10 second holds in a Frogstand variation that is fairly difficult for you. As you get stronger, this will change, and you'll have to progress the variation you are doing. But on a RPE (Rate of perceived exertion) scale - Or the "how dang hard it feels" scale - this should be around an 7 or 8/10. In terms of training this daily - again it depends on lifestyle, training regimen etc. For some, doing little and often, on a daily basis works well. For others it's more time efficient and effective to keep this work in a full Handstand session, which includes hand balancing work, along with some strength work. In general, regular practice - maybe twice a week is a good starting point - in a week, over a long period of time will yield results. Consistency is key. Hope this helps, Seth
