On today's 2 minute garden tip, I show you how to harvest garden veggies an entire month early! You don't need to wait until your last frost date to plant tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, green beans and more! I'll show you how to plant vegetables early for early harvests every year!
These season extension methods will allow you to plant vegetables early for earlier harvests as well as extend harvests deeper into fall. By using these techniques, you may also be able to grow frost tolerant vegetables all winter long in places believed to be too cold to grow vegetables in winter.

Where you live doesn't matter, because it's based on your frost date. Simply have full grown transplants ready to go 4-6 weeks early, no matter where you live. If you normally start your seeds in March, start them 1 month earlier than normal.

Now I’m realizing why I should’ve started my seedlings even earlier. I think we are done with frosts & freezes here in south Louisiana. Thankfully I started my peppers a month or so ago, but my tomatoes are only just now sprouting.

This was perfect! 8A here and I just discovered my south side brick wall is a micro climate. I got the 7 gallon bags and some dwarfs started.

I learned this by accident, when the tomato plants I planted next to a wall in my backyard did better than all of the others and lasted through winter. In the summer it seemed to help them too.

The south wall is typically the "warmest" wall of your house because it gets the most sun exposure (provided it's in full sun).

I love this idea maybe it will give me an extra 15 or 20 days of growing in New Mexico. Thanks.❤❤❤

It definitely will, easily, and on both sides of the seasons. It's pretty easy to give yourself an extra 30 days in the spring and another 30 days in the fall.

I need to do this in Central Florida.
@2MinuteGardenTips
@2MinuteGardenTips 6 месяцев назад
If you're in Central Florida, you should be starting your main crop tomatoes, peppers and eggplant by now. Actually, you may be about 2-3 weeks behind, so get started ASAP! Your last frost date is only about a month away. For early tomatoes, I would imagine you'd need to start them around December 15th so they're ready to go out by February 1st.

I put plastic sheeting over my enclosed garden one year and I had crops in the ground in the end of march.

Why start Legend early, when its specialty is Late Blight resistance? I'm going to start Siletz early this year, and maybe do a Legend towards the end of the season.

Thank you. I might try this. Do you think it would work to move them into an unheated greenhouse?
@2MinuteGardenTips
@2MinuteGardenTips 6 месяцев назад
That depends. Most unheated greenhouses don't retain warmth at night and freeze right through. It depends how good your design is. You'd have to be absolutely certain it never freezes. If you're going to move them, I would only move them into a place guaranteed to stay warm, such as an attached garage physically in the house.

What orange citrus do you recommend for a container in zone 8

I have a dwarf hybrid Meyer lemon and it’s great. (I’m in zone 10.)

You need to talk to Stan "The Citrus Man" McKenzie at McKenzie Farms in Scranton, SC. Don't know where in zone 8 you are but he has an amazing citrus farm. He's on RU-vid as well.
@2MinuteGardenTips
@2MinuteGardenTips 6 месяцев назад
In a container, you can grow any citrus as long as it's grafted onto a dwarf rootstock like trifoliate. But in Zone 8, I grow them in ground: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MpF9lWJKCuA.htmlsi=B2P-0sUS42wB4nyD

Dwarf emerald giant is a very confusing name lmao. Is it dwarf is it a giant? Lol sorry the names sometimes make me chuckle lol.
@2MinuteGardenTips
@2MinuteGardenTips 6 месяцев назад
The plant is small. The fruits are very large. They're large, green tomatoes similar to 'Green Zebra' and weigh close to a pound.

@@2MinuteGardenTips holy cow that's ridiculous about how tall does it get? And is it a heavy producer? I may have to add it to the garden.
