Do you struggle with your 3rd shot drop on the backhand side? Many have a much harder time with their 3rd shot on the backhand and prefer to take most 3rd shots with their forehand.
However, to be a complete player and advance as far as you can with your skill in pickleball, you will need to develop a reliable 3rd shot drop on the backhand side.
Most opponents aim for for the backhand because they know that more often than not it's the weaker side so it's important to make your backhand as strong as it can be.
If struggle with your backhand drop or if you'd simply like your backhand 3rd shot drop to be better then this is the lesson for you.
In this video we'll also cover a great drill that you can do every time you play.

I like this drill, it reminds me of when I was playing golf. I used a putting drill starting at 2 foot then 4 foot then six foot away from the cup. The point of it was to give you feel for distance and the stroke you needed to have precise distance. I was playing at the time around a 16 or 17 handicap and in about 8 months I dropped my scores to an 11 handicap.

@ 1:04 - Am I the only one who is relatable as all get-out to the guy in the background just walking back-and-forth doing serves because nobody else is on the court...? I cannot count how many times I've done that after everyone has gone home or if I arrive to a court but nobody else is there.

Happens to me all the time. I have quite an investment in pickleballs (around 100), having one ball makes for more walking than hitting.

Does this put some slice spin on the ball also? It kind of looks like it.
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball Год назад
You can hit it pretty flat if you wish but slice is usually a good idea to keep it lower and at least some slice will usually happen rather naturally on this shot.

@@primetimepickleball It looks like your takeback is only to your back leg and the forward motion is only about a couple of feet with a moderate swing speed, is that right?

The only problem with this drill is the fact that it trains you to not move forward as you practice, which is the most important point of doing the drop in the first place. If you can get a few more persons you can do a drill that allows the move forward aspect. I’m liking at least two droppers and one feeder where you feed the ball to the dropper who makes the drop shot and moves forward to the kitchen line. Then the feeder does a dink and the dropper returns the dink. The drill continues with the feeder sending the next ball to the next dropper closer to the baseline, etc.

You can just do this drill in reverse John. The point is when people start out, they don’t have the control from the baseline. A good progressive drill like this, will help beginners and intermediates in a big way.

My problem is, i can drop if the balls come slow. But if pace is added, my drops become very inconsistent.

The third shot drop you showed is not that practical in real competition. You should start from serve and receive and then the third shot drop.
@primetimepickleball

Start slow and build up as you get better. If you're already good at max speed then great. Keep sharp by training all variations.

You hit a lot of those too deep and your opponent backed up. In a real game he would’ve stayed up and punished you for hitting the ball so long
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 5 лет назад
And in a real game I would have easily blocked it back into the kitchen, got to the NVZ, and hit three dinks to set up a winning backhand shot.
