They're definitely active, it just takes a little more to get the same effect. They grow fast, and multiply like crazy, hence why they're predominant cultivar. They don't flower as much though
@FilthyDank Wasteman the 11th And not to mention VERY inexpensive. Plus you don't feel as bad when you use it because it's not an heirloom pedro. Save the good trichs for growing and breeding, and the PCs for consumption
Why hasn't anyone done the genetic sequencing on PC? We could easily settle the debate about whether it's like a bridgesii hybrid or it's own separate species, or whatever it really is.
Ah, sure! Hold on, let me get my polymerase chain reaction machine and my sequencer. We wouldn’t want Storm Evans to not have a definitive answer to his random internet debates, now would we?
Its one of the faster growing, drought tolerant, frost tolerance, etc. Trichos. If you want to get into grafting on large stock, these are PERFECT. Esepcialy for mutants and more fragile cacti. Because they are so common, they are very cheap and easy to find!!
I love all your content. It’s very informative and I have learned so much. I’m a new grower and this is my favorite RU-vid channel. Thank you for all your hard work producing these videos.
To those unfortunate souls that have mistakenly acquired PC, all is not lost. While the PC do in fact contain a significantly alkaloid concentration, they can certainly reach the quality of true pachanois. So it is in your best interest to potentiate. To do this you will need to harvest double the initial amount it would require for a regular session. In my experience, this usually ranges from 2 to 2.5 feet of san pedro. Next comes stressing your cuttings. One can do this by poking the cactus with a sterilized needle (to minimize chance of any foreign debris) and then placing the cuttings in a freezer. Don't overdo this and leave your cacti a ravaged monstrosity. Just do enough to where you simulate a wild san pedro receiving some knicks from critters which would make it ramp up efforts for defense - in this case increasing effects. I would leave it overnight, let thaw (not fully though but just to where it begins to soften up again), and then repeat again the next night. The next step would depend on if you're looking to consume simply by smoothie or by tea (boiling). I have yet to try the tea method but the process of boiling adds another stress effect. I must note that i have had much success with the standard blended method. Oh and like real estate dealers stress - LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. Environmental factors play a key role in determining the final product's alk concentration. Give great care to your plants folks. Godspeed!
Cacti can last a while in the freezer. One night won’t kill it. It merely “shocks” the cactus and it will go into self perseveration mode, sort of like hibernation.
@@Hackified yes, the 2x the length is pretty accurate. Also cook the everloving snot out of it. PC's are really tough, and that can be part of the issue.
in order for you to prove that (which you cant) you would have to do an extraction with and without stress. They used to say if you plunged pot plants roots in boiling water or not give them water before harvest or cut the stalk open and put a rock in the opening and all this other silly stress stuff. It just doesn't work that way!
Incredibly illuminating and informative video. Thank you for clearing this up for me. Shed light on some experiences I've had in the past, or lack thereof...
Wow, what a master class. We have learned so much from you San Pedro Mastery I want to thank you for your service in the cactus community. Thank you so much my dear friend ~+🌵
Jerry! Love the info you are giving to the public. I've had Trichocereus Pachanoi, (or so i thought) for 45 yrs!!! Now i know it's a dull clone, hybridized or acclimatized, both, and changing it's structures. Many organisms change fast in cultivation when acclimatizing for decades to environments, from foxes to the white agaricus. Having acquired Britton and Rose long ago "the Cactaceae" , i re- read the t. Pachanoi descriptions and one glared out at me. Your other descriptions are there except for the flat side view of ribs edge. Britton- Rose catalog technical description said "Deep horizontal depression above the areole" 😂 Never noticed, and got fooled like most!! However Britton-Rose did not describe the similar, but deeper V on Bridgesii! In a rush those guys... Trying to look for some true San Pedro in America is tough. Only a few now are offering non PC Pachanoi, and sold out. I think it began with your warning that we have a single boring clone across the land. Current pics from American non PC strains for sale don't show the details of the V indentation above the areole, or flat edge of the ribs, or color. They're playing around. "Unavailable" too, sold "out". Fuzzy pics, no details. Great! They are dancing around not telling it like it is. Incidentally my old PC shows only very faint V above very few of the newer areoles, and contains the alkaloid, as it has a bitter taste. Like your father, i love growing those indigenous power plants because of their ancient history as sacrament. My search is still on for the Real Trichocereus Pachanoi. I may try to get them from you as i trust little these locals.😂
I got a San Pedro 15 years ago from a guy who had them for 25 years The first one I had is dead now but I have many beautiful offspring Thanks for your video now I know I need another pure San Pedro genetic to get seeds 🙏
I grow all my SPs from seeds so i have just about everything BUT a PC. Home Depots, Lowes etc. around here never carry San Pedros of any type and rarely carry anything other than a moon cactus. And I don't use my cacti recreationally, I just love raising them. Never had any of them flower (yet), would love to see that happen!
I wish I could get some cuttings to speed my garden up. I only have a handful of seedlings. But people want a arm and leg for cuttings. Over the next few years as I build my garden up I know it's going to take awhile which is why I want to plant some larger tip pieces. I'm not going charge people a arm and a leg and honestly give some people some cuttings for the price of shipping.
@@timhitt9541 anyone can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe some large stands of the Landfill Pachanoi clone were literally found in a landfill
@@timhitt9541 it was taken from a mother plant that was found on the roadside near a landfill and traded online. Often clones are named for the location they were found or the grower that introduced them.
A large number of collectible clones have come from US collections. Don't expect to find them at Home Depot, but a modicum of research and you can find whatever you need. PC is like a weed here for sure but there are plenty of good genetics among growers too, just hard to compete with mass market garden centers.
Cool video, friend! But, I find these plants to be just as pretty and interesting as any other plant of this genus, I get you're selling your seeds and such (I'd love to grow some off yours BTW), please just be careful not to spread unnacurate info. 'PC' clones are awesome plants to grow, they're beautiful, they're awesome rootstocks for grafting, pretty flowers, and are fast growers, I got absolutely nothing against this or any plant at all. They ARE very popular, not unpopular, and this is not only my own opinion. The fact that they took all over north america (and who knows where else?) is the living proof that they're probably actually the most popular plant of its genus, independent of which species it actually belongs to. Those rugged plants can take anything from wet rainy climates to very dry or high altitude weather. Its a great plant for noobs, so its a no brainer, and it should remain an eternal classic on peoples gardens for all these reasons. 🌵
thanks for the video! mine came from the north of Argentina (where i live) im pretty sure it is pachanoi since this is the mother land of pachanois along with peru and bolivia
From what I've heard, the PC clone is just a North American thing. It's probably not very common in South America, if it exists at all. Here in Europe, I have yet to see one.
How can a single clone spread so much, i'm impressed. I wonder if here in Mexico we have the same PC, you can find them around in gardens and plazas as an ornamental.
Fr I just harvested sum San Pedro at my landscaping job from Rich ppls yards lol and the video is showing the ones I harvested here in Arizona looks like the real deal and will try it soon to find out but I'm definitely sure we grow the real deal around here lol
From Catus Kate. The story is she got this from the university and it originally came from Peru. There was a separation of a partnership and this plant was cloned a lot and sold commercially to nursery big box stores etc. It is active according to the sourse. So keep growing and learning. Enjoy your gardens and remember to love one another ❤️.
Wondering - at what age do these differences can be observed. Lost the ID tags for Peruvian torch and SP and guessing - how to succesfully identify the 3 and 5 inch seedlings. Any idea?
I'm maybe more confused now. My thornless one have a segull shaped line between the thorns. I was told thats is a good indication. I have thorned ones so called torch where the line is straight between the thorns. It think it's a peruvian torch.
Hello thanks for the great videos .. i have what looks like a san pedro or torch cactus i cannot identify i was wondering if there is a way i can send you a photo or video of it ..
Like your videos, any good trichocereus peruvianus id websites? i've a small trich peruvianus i grew from seed and i after watching your videos i am not sure of its genetics...
Try the Corroboree forum, or one of the san pedro groups on reddit or facebook. True Trich. Peruvianus seeds are hard to find, very often you get Cuzcoensis or something entirely different (I got Pachanoi more than once).
Hi mate, Do you have any tips for upon receiving a large cactus that you want to start a family of, what would be the best way to do so? I.e cutting straight away smaller pieces for pup growth?
I am honored to say that I am growing true Pachanoi. Do you know how I know that? I bought seeds from San Pedro Mastery! I have been growing them for 1 year now and they are only about 1 inch tall!
You don't get it. The fake ones are ONLY cuttings. The small stuff grown from seed is the real deal, UNLESS it's a real one accidentally pollinated by a fake (and there's a good chance in North America unless done properly). Apparently the fake IS STILL psychoactive but only half the strength.
I bought my San pedro plants, cuttings and seeds from online plant shops in Germany and Holland. So I should have real San pedros not clones no? I live in Malta and the climate here is cactus heaven. And thanks a million for making a channel dedicated to my favorite cactus and plant.
If it’s from Germany and Holland, it’s extremely unlikely to be PC Pachanoi. However, there’s no guarantee the plants will grow to be san pedro, especially if open pollinated without pollination bag, which is pretty much the norm. Thanks for watching! :)
Hi san pedro mastery, can i send u some images form my san pedro cactus to know ir Its a real one or not? Ive bought mine in a on-line store in Brazil a fez years ago and ive got a bit confuse now with this video
I bought a few San Pedro from a woman she said the original cactus she started with is over 40 years old. They have four ribs and a beautiful blue green complexion. I can't find any information about four ribbed San Pedro.
So to stay away from PC, should I buy Bredgsii or Peruvian torch? I dont want to waste money if PC is not very potent whatsoever. If anyone has an experienced opinion please share.
I have ordered my San pedro from a reliable source and they are on the way. However, I was at the garden section today and picked up what I believe to be san pedro, but it has no name. There's 3 of them about 6 inches high. One has 5 ribs the other two have 6 ribs. The only thing is, it has long thorns and most I have seen do not. Each areola has a flying V shape above it and it has a bluish ting to the stem.
can i emai you pictures of one? it looks like this. has 7 ribs. small spines, clusters of 2-6. also has fuzz under the flower. and has small fuzz balls
I have a cactus from Cabos San Lucas I cut it off from a wild cactus not in a store. I think it might be it, its spine is long about an inch, a dark grey spine, seven pints on it side, a reddish tip on top of cactus, no v on top, just red color.
Without photo, no-one will be able to tell for sure. If you want, you can send me a photo at sanpedromastery@protonmail.com and I'll let you know what I think.
The two genera were merged a while back. 'Trichocereus' is still used a lot to refer to the large columnar Echinopsis species, or to the 'sacred' representatives of Echinopsis, but it's no longer valid for taxonomy.
Love your video's, they are very helpful. I have a question, I obtained some T.Bridgesi x T.Validus. Are they rare? or just one of the many cross experiments that went nowhere? Have been growing for many years, has not flowered yet. ;(
stone man You don’t care about the core of the cactus. The only thing you should be after is the very thin dark green layer just under the waxy outside coating. Maybe only 3 centimeters. 2 feet of San Pedro should only equate to a cereal bowl’s worth of green goop. This blended, and strained, is not too hard to stomach. The taste is the worst part. Which you can bypass by making capsules or even Jell-O shots. Get creative.
So Do you think PC or pachanot has any medicinal value? and also do you think the alkaloid concentrations could be strengthened by stressing the cuttings such as putting it in a dark place for several months etc? very sad as I spent $180 on 9 feet of san pedro cuttings to find out they are pc from your video... was hoping to have a healing ceremony from these plants but wondering if its even worth the trouble.
Sorry, I do not answer questions about the consumption of these plants, just the cultivation. It is good to know what the PC looks like before buying any San Pedro, which is why I made this video… but in your case, I’m sorry that you found out too late. There are some sellers that sell the PC as “PC Pachanoi” or “PC San Pedro”, mentioning it is a great plant for grafting, which is the way to go.
@@halozgodz1 On a video about the PC I had to mention the reasons why it is unpopular. For collectors and botanists, it’s the fact it’s so common and they are looking for something than looks different; for those who consume it, it’s the lower concentration of alkaloids. I won’t discuss it further, because my area of knowledge is the cultivation of san pedro, not its consumption/ preparation. Also, having a youtube channel, I am in the public eye, and I would not feel comfortable talking about topics that may conflict with local laws where I live. Hope you understand, I did not mean to be rude avoiding your question. :)
I believe I have seen the real Pachanoi growing in my neighborhood in Los Angeles... Do they grow in the wild out in Cali... Is the environment of southern California suitable to Pachanoi?
Yes the So-Cal environment is suitable, but no I don't think you'll find them in the wild. If you do find one in the wild, great find! But most likely it will be another species of columnar cactus, non-Trichocereus.
Bro you say 99% of our SP is pc and is not active but supposedly in Europe is a non pc The cactus comes from our part of the world we have the climate and genetics
Interesting. I have seen indeed various images of PC in Australia... but I've never been to Australia in person (I hate long plane trips), so I didn't know how widespread it is over there. But you do have plenty of other fascinating Tricho species and strains in Australia, from what I've seen on the net.
Shroomsta I live in Australia and just bought a pachanoi the guy that sold it to me assured me i would trip of it but That’s not enough to stop me worrying, hope it’s not pc
@@stonedape8437 even if it is you will trip don't worry, it's just a tendency to have low alkaloid profile, I bought 80cm of PC Pedro and used 60cm to make a tea..tripped for 19 hours
why it is hard to trust this guy? HE SELLS...he has every motivation to mislead ...I am NOT claiming he is but just saying it is hard to trust ANYONE selling something in competition to what they discredit
Can you be specific in what type of info you are doubting? Do you doubt that the PC Pachanoi even exists? I’m just putting this video so that people can clearly identify the PC Pachanoi, with all its traits identified. It’s not like I’m revealing any unknown secret that nobody knew. I’m just relaying the information that is already available in every Trichocereus message board or book. And yes I sell seeds, everyone with a youtube channel sells something.
because he gives determinant information, when there is no determinant information to be had. It would be hard for anyone to make any of this bullshit sound like truth... believe the cactus... PC or other San Pedros... they will all tell you the same thing.... some just speak a bit louder!
