Quads aren't the number one muscle for increasing ones vertical jump. If your quad are dominant in you jump you need to work on your technique and work on your glute strength. Glutes are the biggest posterior muscle and is used in hip extension. Proper jump techniques you load the hips similar to a rdl or deadlift. So a hex bar deadlift, (paused squat box) and Nordic curls would be the most beneficial for vertical jump training and if your glutes are underdevelop hipthrust or glute bridges should be included . Also the best way to increase your vertical is by jumping... More you jump the better you will be at jumping higher assuming you use the principle of maximal intent every rep or jump..minus when it comes to mobility work or static holds to help build a base and get tendons strong .

Also hang cleans is probably the most function lift for vertical jump due to its triple extension and has direct Carry over to your vertical jump. I wouldn't put it in your program until you build a base and perfect your jump form and technique

Quads are huge in the vertical more of the vmo

@@sergeantguile4571 tear drop is good for acceleration and doesn't do much as far as vertical jump unless you are a two foot jumper opposed to a 1 foot jumper

Quads?? Glutes actually work the most when jumping and hammies when sprinting
@davidduncan1226

Calf and quads are most important, hamstrings are also definitely important but from my understanding glutes are barely a factor

@Ben Delany I agree that quads and hammies + calves as assisting muscles are more important for vertical. I was talking more about jumping in general. My bad that it was not clear from the beginning (lateral movements, broad jumps, SL movements etc)

@@arsenihohlatov9270 your 100% correct ... If your quads and calfs ( performance increase your vertical it means your quad dominant with terrible jump form... The way to correct this is focus on hip dominated movement and proper technique where loading is involved to make your body posterior dominant and this will drastically increase your top speed and vertical jump. Quad and calfs play more of a role in quickness. I had a 31-32 inch standing vertical with 37-38inch max vertical and after training my body to jump the correct way I was grabbing rim off vertical 35inches and had a max vertical of 40+ inches and took my top speed from 21.3 to 25mph in 8-12 weeks. Normally I don't say anything , but I dislike incorrect information especially when it will direct inhibit someone's training such as this information.

Hey David Duncan, I just had a question about something not related to this video. I recently tried getting back into running and I had posterior shin splints for a long time. I did the scraping treatment for a while, which definitely helped heal my shins. However, when I start running a lot they come back. I think my mileage is too high. Maybe I should take days off instead of running daily? Any tips on how to increase mileage slowly to not get shin splints again?
