Client picked this door up and dropped it on us at the last minute. l've installed a handful of shower doors, nothing resembling this one though so when I dug into the manual today I was feeling like this install was going to be interesting and not in a good way. Jim has restored my faith, shored up my doubts and essentially made me feel like I'm going to kick this thing's a** tomorrow. Wherever you are Jim and unnamed assistant muchos gracias from one workin' man to another.

CAULK YOUR DRILL HOLES!!!!! This is overall a great video for a pretty decent product. One thing people should be aware of is when you drill a hole through your water containment system (curb/shower pan/pan liner) you're going to void the manufacturer's warranty against the pan/liner leaking water to your subfloor and beyond. It's a negative with this install, but it's part of the tradeoff you make in aesthetics for getting rid of tracks and I can understand why Dreamline requires this. That said, it borders on professional malpractice to omit the absolutely necessary step of caulking the holes you drill at the base of the shower with 100% silicone caulk (not "siliconized" or latex). Screw threads provide a path for water to flow into the wood structure below. Or in the case of my most recent install on a concrete subfloor with a concrete over wood shower pan and curb, a path to the wood underneath. And when that wood gets wet, it expands (and rots and gets moldy). Tile and grout, not so much. So at some point down the road, the odds of the tile cracking out and accelerating the leaking process go way up. Do yourself is simple but REALLY important favor. Before you screw into your walls, pan, curb or whatever applies in your shower/tub, prefill those holes with 100% silicone caulk, add a little bit more on the threads of the screws, and a little bit more on the non-visible contact side of the wall mount and center guide block. Yeah silicone caulk can be messy, but cleaning up a little squeeze out is a whole lot less work than dealing with water damage.

Thank you for your feedback. Many DreamLine shower doors require drilling into the threshold due to the size, weight and fragile nature of the product. We can assure you that all of the installation steps have been tested and designed for a safe and secure installation. Any components that require drilling into the threshold should be caulked well and water should never reach that drilled hole. While caulking the hole is not required, it will not affect the installation if the installer does or does not caulk the hole. Thank you for your feedback and for choosing DreamLine.

This is a very helpful video until it gets to 8:07 where it says to drill a 3/16” hole for tile thresholds to mount the #12 guide block. That may work for tile over wood, but does not work for tile (or stone) over Kerdi foam curbs-or brick and metal lath. Even the updated manual does not have the correct information after a discussion with Andy in product technical. You’ll still need to drill a 5/16” hole and use a 5/16 anchor for anything other than tile over wood as specified in the older manual dated 6/2017.

Thank you David for taking the time to point this out. You are correct, the drilling measurements provided in the Enigma-X installation video above are for a traditional tile installation. As the curb construction becomes more popular we are updating our installation manuals to fit such an installation. Thank you again and please feel free to contact DreamLine at 866.282.8413 with any other questions or concerns.

Very helpful! I was overwhelmed just reading the install manual. This video provides needed visual overview and details. 2nd Enigma-XT installed without a hitch! 60" & 48". Did the 48" by myself--I do NOT recommend going it alone. (Let me stress this. Do not attempt without a helper, as the instructions say). Came close, several times, to losing control when setting the fixed panel for marking drill points. Duh.

Very helpful video! Is the functionality of the sliding door impacted if I elect not to install the dam strip?

I wish there were some additional Dimensions given in the manual. Like what will the total thickness, or outside Dimension be from glass to glass, after assembly. And the location of the center of the guide rail in relation to that total dimension. As well as the relation of the center of the guide rail, to the guide block. ( assuming they're centered to each other, but not sure since manual doesn't say) My reason for needing these dimensions is so that I can design the tile layout of my custom shower, prior to installing the door. This would be helpful in setting the inside dimensions of the shower, to properly Center the shower valve, shower niche, and the threshold location, if one is being used. So these things can be planned for prior to door installation. That way everything works out the way you want it in the end. I have to go through the work of pre assembling parts to figure this Dimension out for myself. However it would be nice to just have this dimension in the manual. That way you can also start building and tiling your shower, before ordering the doors, or just waiting for them to arrive.

For those who want this info, here is what I have figured out personally. Inside of fixed glass panel to the center of the rail, is 7/8 of an inch. Inside of glass door to the center of the rail, is 25/32 of an inch. Add 3/8 of an inch for each glass panel for a total dimension, outside of glass to outside of glass, of 2 and 13/32 of an inch. This offset of 3/32 is copied on the guide block to match. So if you want to know the approximate center of the rail, from the outside edge of the fixed panel, it is 1 and 1/4 in. Center of the rail is center of the guide block. In my situation walls were already tiled for a different door system. Then homeowner changed their mind and wanted the sliding door. Floor not tiled yet so I am able to adjust the transition between shower and bathroom floor to match the new Centerline of the Dorset. But needed this information so I could set the center of my threshold. I realize most will not run into this issue. But I hope it will help someone.

I just finished installing my Enigma Air tub shower door. But I'm running into a problem with installing the roller guard on the side with the stationery panel. There isn't enough room to put the cover on the guard. It won't slide between the glass. It was hard enough to get the other piece of the guard in there. What am I missing?

The instructions indicate to take the model width, in my case 72 and to subtract the opening width. I expect people are measuring the rod itself, then subtracting opening width. That method does not take into account the rod ends. It will end up too big if you don’t follow the model width. This would then require a recut. I suppose an example may help to alleviate confusion for the DIYer.

Thank you for your feedback. The steps outlined in the installation manual have been used by hundreds of thousands of installers without fail. We recommend following the steps outlined in the installation manual for an accurate fit to your specific measurements. Every space is different, but the steps to cut the rail remain the same, keeping in mind your finished measurements. We invite you to contact our DreamLine PreSales Consultants at 866-282-8413 to discuss this further. We can also be reached by sending an email to support@dreamline.com. Our hours of operation are 9am-6pm EST, Monday through Friday. Thank you for your interest in DreamLine.

not sure what you mean by cutting the rod from the model width - finished opening width cutoff length (L) ... what is model width... like 48 inches?

If the rod is 60 inch subtract the width of the opening from your shower wall and subtract that from 60
@mrchicano6830
@mrchicano6830 2 года назад
For example if the opening is 57 3/8 subtract that from 60 and you cut off 2 5/8

They should note that you need to subtract the difference in the side guide caps that are also installed on the guide rod. They don’t show it this way, it is very deceiving.

I had to put the end brackets on the rod, measure that, then subtract the actual opening. The result is how much I needed to remove from the rod. The instructions on this part were confusing.

wow, this was a tough install. what the kit is missing is some kind of clear plastic spacer to go under the glass to protect from touching the tile

Hi Norman, Thank you for reaching out to DreamLine. The moving panel must always be installed to the inside of the shower. The unit is completely reversible, allowing the moving panel to close against either the right or left wall, but the installation process remains the same with the moving panel on the inside of the stationary panel. We invite you to contact a DreamLine PreSales Consultant at 866-282-8413 to discuss this further. We can also be reached by sending an email to support@dreamline.com and through our Chat with Expert feature on DreamLine.com. Our hours of operation are 9am-6pm EST, Monday through Friday. Dreamline, you have a formula to have the model length minus the opening to cut the rod (in the video as well as your manual, you are not showing or mentioning the guide rail deduction.) Your installation manual is extremely descriptive, but in it, as well as this video, you are not accounting for the guide rail brackets, which make the rod plus the guide rails larger. Why not have this in your tip/notes? I noticed this right away, which is what brought me to this video, which again, does not tell you to remove the difference. The video, if done as shown, would have the rod with the guide rail brackets too big to fit in. You should reword or add the guide brackets in it.
@DreamLineShowers
@DreamLineShowers 2 года назад
Thank you for your comments. DreamLine has already taken the guide rail brackets into account when we cut the guide rail. The guide rail comes to you designed to fit the largest model width for your shower door, allowing for the guide rail brackets. For instance, a 60" door will not get a 60" guide rail. The guide rail is smaller, taking into account the guide rail brackets. There truly are not any additional deductions that need to be made for the guide rail cuts than what is outlined in the manual. We invite you to contact our DreamLine Customer Support Team at 866-731-8378 to discuss this further. I’m totally on board with everything you said. I installed this door today for a customer and YES you MUST DEDUCT the Guide rails (about 7/8 in) in my case. When I got to this part in the instruction manual and after watching this video I was scratching my head thinking…’this ain’t going to work’ Obviously, I figured it out but a mistake like this on a step that’s kind of one and done really needed to be fixed or in this case explained better than the reply given back to you from the company. 😂

@@brandonmahoney9407 If you pretend the rail is 60in or whatever size of model you have. And your actual measurement 59.in, or what have you, tile to tile. And the difference is 1 in. Cut one inch off the rail they gave you. And it will work since the allowance has already been made. The instructions say to do this. But I do agree it should be a little more clear.
