How To Install A Stair Nose On A Landing
In this video, we start off on how to install a stair nose 1 particular way but in life things don't always go as planned. As opposed to using the U channel we used a glue down method on this stair nose. The video is for educational purposes and for entertainment we've included video of our epic failure using the U channel and how we recovered using the glue down method.
Please leave your questions in the comments and I will see you on the next one!

with the pergo outlast+ it seems that there are no options for a flush stair/edge bullnose. the pergo brand stair edge overlaps the top of the flooring similar to what you used. Is that the only things you've had experience with?

I've had a couple like that but don't remember the brand. One time I took a stair tread and a vinyl plank. I clipped The plank to the tread at the front. Then took a heat gun and shaped it over the round nose. I used a 2x4 wrapped in cloth to not scratch it. Then ran it back and forth as I blew a heat gun on it. It took the shape of the stair tread underneath. And I had a custom plank with nose built in. Then I just cut the back piece to fit. With I recorded it. I thought I made a video for it but I guess I didn't. Hope that gives you something to think about. Thanks for the question

Help. How do you transition from wood to carpet on the last stair at the top landing? There is no bull nose on the landing it is flush. Don’t want to start pulling up the carpet on the stairs until I know how to finish the project.
@WesternDesperado

Cut the carpet back slightly, lay a thin piece of flooring and use a room transition

The likely problem was with the track one of two things that it could have been. One the screws weren’t completely set which causes the track to not to deflect enough to pinch the mdf or the screws weren’t set low enough to allow the height of the mdf to fully seat in the track

I have thought about this situation a lot. I think if I would have shimmed the metal track up just a little, It would have grabbed. Because in the places where it did grab it caused a slight cup it the stairnose. Telling me it was too tight. If I had to do it again, would probably slip a strip of cardboard under the u channel to bring it up enough to grab not not cause a gap in the front. This was a very frustrating install, as I have do e this numerous times in the past. Thanks for your input. I appreciate the advise. And thanks for the comment

@@YOUFLOOR yea shimming it may have helped but then you run the risk of the moulding sitting above the floor. Those things are a horrible design over time if they are installed in a high traffic area the mdf wears on the track and the transition starts getting loose eventually it comes out of the track.

Going through this pain right now. This metal track just seems like a horrible idea.

If the landing floor is ceramic and comes flushed to the raiser, how would you go about to install a stair nose? The current one is made of black rubber, is coming undone with the years (was glued in place) and resist re glueing

I would love to take a shot at coming up with a solution. Could you send me a couple pics from different angles so I can get a better idea of what we are dealing with. Youfloor.net@gmail.com thanks ,Z

Ok, question, I have removed the nasty carpet from my stairs and the 1st small landing. This landing has the newel post sitting on the subflooring. How do I apply bullnosing to this area? Should I remove the newel post and set on onto the new floor?

@@YOUFLOOR Next question, I wanted to install bottom and top of stair-landings with Luxury Vinyl - hardwood is costly, I am not sure what direction the planks should.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Год назад
The direction will not matter structurally. That's more of a preference. But I would probably run it in the direction that the majority of stairs are running. I am looking at your email asap
