I used this howto to install carplay in my mazda today, it works like a charm. However, i found that you don’t have to remove the horizontal strip on the dashboard, i still did it, but it wasn’t needed. I just took out the glovebox, bundled the cables behind it, and could reach both the radio and the carplay unit from there. Thank you for this detailed howto
Updating Software or installing apple carplay does not change FM frequencies. You need a FM band expander. That unit is located under dash near steering wheel. Very easy to install.
I'm planning on doing this to my gf's car, she just bought it so im unsure of the firmware update, but if it not up to date, i can just take it to a dealer and get it updated right? is it a special version of the software or just the stock MZD software but a more recent version?

You are the most up to date already. Perfect for CarPlay or Android Auto, if you don’t already have them on the Mazda you just need the new Hardware installed.

😂you don’t need to be an electrician to do this. It’s just taking apart some upholstery and connecting a few cables! My 6 year old daughter helped me with it lol.
