I installed this in my basement and it's amazing. I noticed a huge difference in temperature. I could never go in my basement in the winter in my bare feet. With this stuff I can. It's always warm. Prior to laying mine I put 2 coats of grey acrylic paint which smelled like nail polish but it sealed the floor so that dampness and odours would be gone. It worked! Oh and I'm never sick of you Shannon. I love you and your vids.

I'm gonna install install regualar T&G OSB panels on top of 6"x6" 3/4" thick 25 PSI foam pads spaced 16" OC which will be glued to the concrete floor. I can shim each pad by adding thin sheets of wood to insure a level floor with no gaps or humps. Accomplishes the air gap under floor at about 1/2 the cost. I just can't justify spending $1600 on the dricore panels. Also I can seal the osb better using poly sheet. The dricore panels are not sealed at the edges and will absorb moisture in a wet basement and swell.
@MrSnapy1
@MrSnapy1 7 лет назад
Had a few contractors tell me my basement is too wet for a system like this. Its made more for damp basements living in the south its more than damp here lol. They recommended just laying down pressure treated 2x4's then staple heavy plastic to the floor runners keeping it tight and off the floor. Then just putting plywood on top of the plastic it helps keep moisture away from the plywood. This system is again great for less water but in one inch of water it will come through the seems and damage the OSB.
@MegaToado

MrSnapy1 don't install pressure treated 2×4in a basement. I know in eastern Ontario that's not code. can rot or mold in time

@SerpentDragonZX

Not sure if it matters this far long, but some job sites I worked on, any area that was to have any construction done, like a basement, after cleaning, and everything was set to start building, we would dust the floor and area in baking soda. It was to help to make an environment that was not just mold resistant, but hostile towards it. It was super cheap, and great as a preventative. We also used it in attic builds. It was used to dust rafters and attic spaces before making additional rooms too.

@maximus759
@maximus759 4 года назад
Thank you for the informative video. My only issue was when you said you were going to give yourself some extra room so you would leave a gap of 3/16 of an inch. 3/16 is not more than the 1/4 inch you were using up to that point. 1/4 is the same as 4/16, so by switching to 3/16 you are giving yourself less room to work with not more.

usually when you have a leak in the basement walls, you would find a damp carpet (no subfloor, just carpet on the cement). If you install the subfloor like in this video, how would you know? Are there any solutions for detecting a leak behind the walls?
@lionintu

I want to use these but it'll cost a bit of money to install but its worth the warm floor. I intend to install this, then rigid core planks on top of the concrete slab in my basement floor. My Question is how protected am I against (1)plumbing leaks and (2) possible flood with this type of installation in a basement ?

@marknikkanen7190

If you want to install the dricore panels before the drywall, just add 2x4 blocks on top of existing bottom plates between your studs ensuring enough nailing area👍
@mitchrodee
@mitchrodee 3 года назад
When you were putting down the first panel or two you mentioned something about drilling and putting in some screws in few panels. You also added that the entire sub floor needed to float (and I assume will also expand and contract), so it was necessary to not screw down every panel. However, I didn’t see you put in any screws at all. Did you eventually put some in? If so, how many per panel? And which panels got screwed down? Please clarify.
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 3 года назад
Just the odd perimeter panel just to keep it from shifting around while you work. Most times I will put a few in and remove them when i'm finished. You can leave them if you like but its better if the floor floats as much as possible.
@mitchrodee
@mitchrodee 3 года назад
@@HouseImprovements , okay, that makes sense. Someone else made the point of screwing down all of panels, and especially the middle ones, if your plan is to put down carpet (which is our plan). They said that all of the stretching and pulling involved tends to cause lifting and buckling of the panels. Anyway, thanks for the responding.

I have read that to put this stuff down before putting in walls is not a good idea. The OSB will be ruined if it ever does get wet, and if you have to pull some of it up and they happen to be underneath a wall, you are in for a real big job. I am thinking of adding these and happen to have all my walls done for years now. Something to think about, or do you think it is not a problem.

That was a nice patent, doubt we can get them here. (Europe). - Remember when shimming it's the seesaw principle, it's the downed side that needs the shim to get the high end to go down. - Instead of shimming the all ready high end.
@HouseImprovements

Yup, sometimes if the high spot is not near an edge you may need to shim both edges.

Is that 1/4 inch space really necessary? I know Dricore recommends it but my drywall is just high enough where the tongue can fit underneath and it gives me a nice tight fit that I really don't want to give up.

I've thought about installing these in my basement but I have a fireplace and a bathroom. How would you address the height difference for the marble hearth in front of the fireplace and the toilet in the bathroom?
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 7 лет назад
The hearth you would have to make some kind of transition trim maybe??? I have never used this in a bathroom but you could cut off the existing flange flush to the floor and install a new one over the panel. I would be sure that the panels around the toilet are well shimmed and maybe even use adhesive to keep them from moving to much when walking around?
@JeepingNet

I'm in the process of planning to finish my basement. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the advantages of this method over using a product like DMX-1step underlay and then laying 5/8 T&G OSB over it. Its more than double the cost..

Its so easy to carry these panels in and install them as apposed to caring 4'x8' sheets of plywood down stairs
@JeepingNet

Great point I think I'm also seeing that subfloor tile isn't screwed down and DMX1-step - 5/8 T&G OSB needs to be screwed down so there that could be a lot of drilling/screwing. Thanks! Great videos in the last 2 weeks I think I've watched half your videos. Great stuff!

If you are planning to install a subfloor below any sub grade it is recommended to at least use pressure treated wood materials and also if your existing basement floor is cold and damp it is also recommended to put down a 6mil polyethylene plastic sheeting over the basement floor before installing the pressure treated wood subfloor.

@marknikkanen7190
@marknikkanen7190 5 лет назад
These tiles are meant to be installed as a floating floor system, however if your planning to install ceramic tiles on top, first thing you’ll need to do is glue the tongue and groove edges together and then install a isolation membrane that allows the movement of the tile surface from the dricore panel surface👍
@diggler306
@diggler306 7 лет назад
If I plan to use these Dri-core tiles after framing up the basement, what height should I frame my door Rough openings at? ie. how much height will this dricore and flooring chew up?
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 7 лет назад
I believe they are about 7/8"
@marknikkanen7190
@marknikkanen7190 5 лет назад
I usually add the Dricore thickness at 7/8” and then the new flooring thickness and then add 1/2” air space, which frequently adds up to 2” more added to the rough opening height of your door frame👍
