This video should explain that to remove the old filter you pull down on the old filter to separate it from the top and then it is much easier to turn because you can grip the filter
I replaced the filter about 6 months and this video made me laugh because it says there may be some leaking from the old filter so have a towel ready - that was funny because mine sprays water all over by the bucket - I had to take almost everything out and soak the water up inside and on the floor. Have no idea how to cut the water flow to the unit but it’s ok, makes for a great opportunity to clean your refrigerator out and mop your floor.
¡Hahaha! I thought I was the one and only but now I see we can become the founding fathers of the Loyal Order of the Unwillingly Wet Water Filter Apprentices. lol
4 gallons does sound excessive, but since the filter is good up to 200 gallons, it's not that bad. I filtered 3 gallons and it was still a little cloudy. By the 4th gallon, it was clear. Just my personal experience...
I would have been more than glad to give you a hand but next time you may want to try asking someone for help, friend, familia, neighbor. If none available, you may want to try use a jar opener. Good luck!
Make sure you check out John Hanisch's comment above! He saved me from going insane trying to get the dang thing out. You have to pull it down (gently) to get it to easily turn. I used a flat head screwdriver to pry it down (again, be gentle and just pry it down a little), then I was able to easily turn it! The biggest pain was needing to run 4 gallons of water through it after it was installed.
Bought a used Jenn Aire frig. Had a Maytag before and it has the same type filter. I cannot for the life of me get this new filter to feel and look like it is in place. The water will not work. I took the old one out and ordered new filters then threw it away. Is there some weird thing going on because I did not have a filter in it for a few day? We have an ice maker....WTH??
The amount of water to flush seems a bit excessive. By the time you flushed four gallons before you can drink the water, you've used up a lot of the filter having you?
We need an answer to this. Four Gallons REALLY? Standing the frig door open that long is a waste of time and money. A filter should be working reliably sooner than that ?????
I'm no expert, but the Lowe's website says that the filter should be replaced after 200 gallons (which I guess they approximate to end up taking about 6 months for most folks).
Pls advise what filter cap is needed to install a EDR3RXD1 in a side by side Whirlpool(purchased at Ikea) with installation at bottom of refrig. Mine is cracked.
Have been trying to locate a filter that works for the past year. Whirpool even sent us a filter after calling customer service. This filter does NOT work. There is an obvious manufacturing/design defect in these filters. What is going on, Whirlpool??
It is the worst engineering. Ive had the refrigerator several years and each time I’ve had ro replace the filter it’s been a nightmare. I was wondering when the cheap plastic parts would break trying to get the filter off. I don’t t have to wonder any more.
I just replaced mine and it makes this horrible Jackhammer vibration noise now. This isn’t due to air as I flushed that out 2 weeks before this started happening, and it sounds way different.
@@LadyPashta I had the same issue he is describing. I have a Jenn-Air and installed the recommended filter and after about two weeks it started making this extremely loud vibrating noise after a few seconds of dispensing water. I de aired it properly and everything on install and this started about two weeks in. Customer support suggested it may be a defective filter.
I removed my filter before I had a replacement, got online, and ordered the filter from the manufacturer. they charge me for quick delivery, only to find out it will take as long as if I had just let them ship it normally. Then come to find out that the Home Deport store had them in stock. Dah... Now in following these guidelines, I have a small leak draining from the back of the housing hub. I drained a gallon worth and it did not stop. So, what is the solution? Oh, yea I had to shut down the water to remove it and reinstall it twice, still no luck.
My problem is that I can't see why I need an expensive filter if I'm using city water that is treated. I am concerned though, about leaving an old filter installed as it could be actually getting my clean water dirty. I'd take it out but I suspect that would let water run inside the fridge. Anybody know the answer? I wouldn't trust the company to answer truthfully... they're just interested in selling filters.
You don't. Tap water is fine (in most cities except maybe Flint MI), the fridge filter is just an extra bonus filter for your cooled water/ice that they include by default, but is also expensive. I don't think the next fridge I buy will run water for that reason, I'll just keep a Brita in there during the summer, and ice trays in the freezer. No more hassling with expensive fridge filters. EDIT: To be clear, I share your concern about old filters. I would guess you do need an expensive filter if you want to use the fridge water/ice, but only because they include it by default. And the necessity of having your city water filtered again before it becomes ice is arguable.
City water contains lead, farm chemicals, medicine's, chlorine, mercury, fluoride, and bacteria that cannot be filtered at the treatment plants!!!! But the filter you have on your fridge will only filter a percentage of those contaminants out. A whole house filter and reverse osmosis system will prevent the rest from getting through. Then you can use the bypass cap and you don't need the filter!
The filter mechanism is a joke. I am using channel locks now and still not budging. Glad I purposely set out to buy an American Made appliance so I could get the best quality. So disappointed.
Four gallons is a lot to run before using the water. Isn't the point of a filter to improve the water? Why would it need four full gallons to get "cleaner tasting water...." and "improve performance?" Seems very wasteful
