I have a Baja Warrior I want to do the same job on. I was thinking of changing the rear brake to a foot lever on the right side and replace the cable with a rod instead. Then leave the front brake on the left side. Nice job!

Bob's Barn Workshop yeah that setup would probably work better.

Anthony Shelton I see a small mechanical disc brake kit for $25. It will need more complex mounting bracket but no need to replace the front wheel. I’ll have to weld a mounting flange on the wheel for the disc, but I love a challenge!
@TheVintageEngineer
@TheVintageEngineer 4 года назад
Bob's Barn Workshop just make sure you don’t have a lot of runout when you welding them mounting flange, though you Can always shim the disc later if need be.

Anthony Shelton yeah it will require some careful alignment for sure!

I recently made a very similar front brake system for both of my Coleman U-EX models. I also converted the rear brake to a rod and pedal for more brake control. IN addition, I installed tail lamps and BRAKE LIGHTS. I also see you have a speedometer/bicycle computer installed on your front fork. Installing that on ours allowed us to know that we can ride for 51 miles before the stock fuel tank runs dry!

Great video. You ought to sell a kit with a bracket and shortened cable.
@TheVintageEngineer
@TheVintageEngineer 4 года назад
I think the cable will vary with each bike. When I swapped forks the handle bars become to short on a ct200u. After this video I got taller handlebars (9” tall) to bring it back to original height. This made the cable a little more better looking. Still gonna shorten it when I get a chance I believe.

Front outer fork tube is aluminum on my ex u so you would have to use a aluminum bracket and be able to weld aluminum

Do yourself a big favor and trash the stock Chinese brake shoes . They suck . Replace them with EBC 304G brake shoes . A world of difference . Much better stopping than the stock crap ... Your life is worth it .

Hi Anthony, I'm looking to do this conversion on my Coleman BT200X now that I am adding a new Predator 224 engine, I will need some good stopping power and I must say what an excellent idea and great job! so how has the front braking been working out any issues? I bought the rear Brake Drum and Rim Assy, Brake Handle Lever cable etc. everything I need per your instruction.
@TheVintageEngineer
@TheVintageEngineer 2 года назад
Been working great! Almost necessary once you get the bike moving faster than factory speed.

@@TheVintageEngineer Thank you, I bought the rear hub and drum assembly about 60 bucks, and there are no disc brake conversion kits made for the BT200X, if there were would be like $150.00. So far this modified front drum brake is working out great! I upgraded to a 224 PREDATOR and did a MOD2 CAM upgrade now getting 57 MPH and braking on just a rear tire is an accident waiting to happen. Again great video!.

@@TheVintageEngineer I'm about an hour away from b'ham & would be interested in buying the frame if you haven't already made a deal on it. I've got the same model bike with significant frame damage & it would save time just to swap parts over. If you could share some contact info, I'd like to see if we can work out a deal...

I’ve ordered all the parts from Coleman for this mod. It’s really should help as we have a very steep hill we go down at our place. One question. What size is your angle iron? 1” or 1.5”? Looking using 1/4” aluminum. Just easier to work with. Thoughts? Thanks.

Why did you offset the holes for the u-bolt? That made the angle flange out of line with the cable connection. I want to do mine straight but suspect there's a reason you did it this way haha.

Peter K. @3:35 The ear of the drum housing will hit the nut of the u bolt if it was in line with it.

Nope and probably better as force will be applied to back of fork instead of pulling away from it. I think I originally did it this way to match the back is all.

@@TheVintageEngineer I'm a 6 ft 220 pounder myself and I saw that issue as soon as I realized the B200x and CT200EX had a completely different approach angle than the ct200u. I considered this modification but am just going with a Trail Master 200 for my a suspension build. For heavy riders the EX and BX are far too prone to wheelie due to the cantilevered seat design.
@TheVintageEngineer
@TheVintageEngineer 4 года назад
fatbuddycat I sat on an EX at tractor supply and I absolutely hated it. The TM 200 is a nice bike, just make sure you change out the like 38 tooth rear sprocket to a bigger one because that is way too tall of a gear for trails.
