This innovative grout came out in February 2020 to distributors in the USA and Canada. It’s a professional-grade, premixed grout that offers the superior strength and performance of an epoxy (but without epoxy resins). SPECTRALOCK 1 provides exceptional durability, extreme versatility, and excellent color consistency.

Best grout I’ve ever used! Im not a pro tiler but have a good deal of experience (for a diy guy) with non epoxy grouts. I’ve only done maybe 10,000 square ft of tiling. A bit weird to get used to if you normally use a traditional grout. Not as sticky, I’d almost compare its consistency to wet granular sugar. Dries very quickly in arid climates. Much smaller area to cover before cleaning, you do not want it to dry! I only did a 2’ by 2’ area on penny tile before cleaning. It will take longer to apply but no sealing ever! Once you do the first wash it’s a a breeze to get zero haze. Excellent product, worth every penny. I would recommend this to someone doing there first job, just take your time, work the grout into the joint, wash with a well wrung sponge followed by a nearly dry microfiber.

The only problem I have with this grout is with the color. I have three gallons of grout, all different colors and all are multiple shades lighter than what I expected by looking at the color depicted on the container and online. I have one color, "Chestnut Brown" that I used on a floor, that's nowhere near the color shown on the container. Very much lighter than what's shown. I wish Laticrete would do a better job of depicting the color of the product as one would expect it to be after application. The grout has not darkened much 3 months after application.

So basically you just open the bucket, and the grout is ready to apply on the tile? Also, if it's too dry or dried out, you don't use it, correct?
@laticrete
@laticrete 2 года назад
Yes the SPECTRALOCK 1 is ready to go and take out as much grout as you are going to use for that section and put the lid back on the bucket to avoid the moisture from evaporating. If you should open the lid and you feel it is a bit dry you can slow mix to reincorporate any separation that might have taken place. If you mix and it is still too dry and when you float the grout out it is not spreading as grout should then we do not recommend to use.

Has this ever been used to top off regular grout joints that are a bit low? By low I mean 1/16 to 1/8 minus. Floor. Not wall. Thanks!
@laticrete
@laticrete Год назад
Hi Rikk! Thanks for your message! The existing grout should be removed to at least ½ the depth of the grout joint down to stable and sound existing grout or bedding mortar. Hope this helps!

@@laticrete Thanks for your input. I’m using it on a shower in pure white on white ceramic tile. I noted it may not spread as easily as regular grout and needs to be worked in well. Small areas with a quick clean up. Any other suggestions?

do I need to grout the edge where the wall & floor meet..or should I just use silicone..I'd like to just grout the whole thing & be done with it

LATASIL silicone sealant should be used here to allow for movement.

Hello, I’ve got a bathroom I’m doing, and the walls are half grouted (with Spectralock epoxy).....I’d like to finish with this.....will the color match be almost undetectable? And will the true epoxy grout stay in the lineup for the near future? I love it, but the precise weighing of it on partial mixes is a pain. Thanks!
@laticrete
@laticrete 3 года назад
Hi George. These are 2 different grouts/materials, therefore there is no guarantee they would match exactly in color or texture. There are no plans to eliminate any of our epoxy grouts.

How would you remove haze?
@laticrete
@laticrete 3 года назад
If haze remains on the tiles the following day, it can be buffed off the using a nylon scrub pad. If it is taking more then that to get it off we also have more info on a TDS which states: "If within 24 hours, SPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-mixed Grout haze can typically be removed with a “magic eraser” or white nylon scrub pad dampened with cleaned water. In a circular motion start to lightly scrub the surface to remove the grout haze. Use a clean damp sponge or microfiber cloth to remove the haze residue that would be broken up by the scrub pad. If the grout haze is present after 24 hours, a white nylon scrub pad dampened with a solvent (i.e. Acetone) would have to be used. Allow the liquid to sit on the surface of the haze for a few seconds and in a small circular motion, applying pressure, pass over the haze with the scrub or scouring pad. The haze should start to release from the tiles and can be removed with a cleaned damp sponge or microfiber cloth. Always conduct a test area to confirm that the liquids used will not affect the tiles. Does the grout have sealer added or is sealer needed after the grout has dried?
@laticrete
@laticrete 3 года назад
SPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-mixed Grout never needs sealing. In fact, a sealer would not bond to the SPECTRALOCK® 1 Pre-mixed Grout.

Spectralock 1 needs 14 days to set up when using on shower bases. I don't think it's as easy as it's being presented.
@laticrete
@laticrete 3 года назад
Yes, if SPECTRALOCK 1 is used in steam showers or in submerged applications a minimum of 14 days should be allotted prior to use or filling with water. However, for regular shower installation the grout should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 24-48 hours pending temperature and humidity. Keep in mind that full stain resistance isn't achieved until 14 days so within this time harsh cleaning supplies (i.e. bristle brushes, strong cleaners, hair dyes, etc.) shouldn't be used. Please see our TDS on FAQs for more info. cdn.laticrete.com/~/media/support-and-downloads/technical-datasheets/tds411-sl1-faqs.ashx

Theres a reason they don't do a demo on a shower wall ,,I used this on some sub way tile and it was an absolute nightmare ,,iit can not be applied like regular grout ,if you do it will flatten out on your float and fall to the ground ,you have to apply a little at a time and it is not smooth and creamy it is dry and takes two hands to press into joint ,it is extremely frustrating and stressful ,cost 5 times as regular grout and takes just as long to install. Now I did use on the floor and its much easier,,,why well cause its a floor ,,your not fighting gravity ,the only positive I can say is that it does sponge off nice ,but you still have to be EXTREMELY careful cause if you miss anything well good luck getting it off once it drys , I tell my customers dont buy the grout cause this is what they push all the time ,its a scam ,,I have been using standard grout for 23 years and have never had a complaint ,it takes 10 minutes to apply a sealer every few years ,and a bottle last forever
