Great video! I just ordered some of this. Love that you recommended treating yourself to a new grout float! I have been telling myself I need to get a new float sometime, but didn't want to spend the extra money. I guess if I am paying so much for epoxy grout I can afford a new float.

It would have been more effective if you would have used a dark tile, this way we could have seen more of the clean up process as the residue gradually gets removed. Using a light colored tile and grout becomes more of a lecture because we cannot see any contrast. Even a sloppy job would have looked good on camera. Would have also like your take on this product vs. the new Spectralock 1. Thanks.

@laticrete
@laticrete Год назад
Hello! Thank you for your message. No, epoxy grout for ceramic tile and stone is not a replacement for a waterproofing membrane. When a waterproofing membrane is required, use a LATICRETE® Waterproofing Membrane. This product is also not a setting material, please use an appropriate mortar to set the tiles into the substrate (eg. 254 Platinum). Hope this helps!

Hi Laticrete, I saw some instructions online that ask for 2.25 lbs of part c. Should the entire 9 lbs of part c be mixed inside of the AB container? From the looks of it you only added some of part c, however, I cant tell if off screen all 9lbs was mixed in.
@laticrete
@laticrete Год назад
Hello! Thank you for your message. The C part depends on the unit purchased. Mini will need 2lb, Full unit 9lb and Commercial unit 4x 9lb. Add Part C color powder to blended A and B liquids and mix thoroughly with margin trowel or slow speed drill mixer (< 300 RPM). The LATICRETE SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout unit is designed to use all the Part C color powder for most applications. For narrow joints, it is acceptable to leave out up to 10% Part C color powder to produce a more fluid mix. Hi Ruben! Thanks for watching and your question! For best results, we suggest that you mix the entire unit. However, if you need to mix up a small amount, use the same proportion of each component (e.g. 1/2 of the Part A, 1/2 of the part B and half of the LATICRETE® SPECTRALOCK® Part C by volume. Hi there, we normally apply our epoxy & than continue (after 24hours) our sanding, honing & polishing process. Was reading that you don’t recommend leaving it for a prolonged period especially on a white stone. Does this include if your going to be grinding or sanding.

Hello! Thanks for your message. That is something they would have to determine in the field with a test area/mock up. We state on the product data sheet for this material that Epoxy Resins may affect the color of white or porous stones (such as White Carrara, Thassos White, Royal Danby etc.). So there would be no way to provide a blanket answer to cover all/each stone vs. how they may be grinding/sanding those stones. Hope this helps!

Will this grout stick to my epoxy floor and glass? plus do you have silver , copper light gold and black in tubes premixed? thanks
@laticrete
@laticrete 4 месяца назад
It may be best to give your tile surfaces a wipe down with a damn sponge prior to floating the grout. This assists in the spread of the material as well as inhibits the grout from sticking to the surface. Currently, there are no premixed tubes of those colors, but we do carry all of our 40 standard colors.

Epoxy grout dries faster on the surface of the tile. Joints still wet, how you manage that. If you clean too early it takes off from.the joint. If you wait too long its hard to clean the surface. Any tips on this pls. Thx..
@laticrete
@laticrete 5 часов назад
When grouting it's best to "cut" as much excess grout from the surface before moving to your next section. You should be able to clean the section you just grouted after 20 minutes. Wash additive packets are provided in the product packaging to aid in the initial wash. With a well rung out sponge, wipe grout joints and tile surface in a light circular motion, loosening grout residue while making the joints smooth. Drag a clean well rung out sponge diagonally over the scrubbed surfaces to remove grout residue. Rinse sponge after every pass; use each side of sponge only once between rinsing. Discard sponges when they become “gummy” with residue. Check work as you clean. Repair any low spots with additional grout. Following these instructions should result in a successful installation!

First time using epoxy grout here. I was shocked how easy anything with epoxy in the name cleaned up with water! Used a mini kit for my 3x3 bathroom floor. I was afraid I would run out, but your grout calculator was right on! Then I panicked and washed out too much grout. A combination of not waiting long enough, and wiping too much because I was so scared of grout haze (which was not a problem). It was also my first time using rectified tiles which I think means underfilling is way more obvious that with rounded edge tiles. Can I reapply epoxy grout over fresh epoxy grout to correct my underfilled 1/8th inch grout lines on a porcelain mosaic tile floor?
@laticrete
@laticrete 2 года назад
Yes, when the product is still wet (typically during the 1st or 2nd cleaning) it is possible to add more material to level off the grout. However, if the grout is allowed to dry, it wouldn't be suggested to install more as there may not be enough body to keep the grout in place. As a general rule of thumb, grout should be removed down to 1/2 the thickness of the tile prior to regrouting. This assures proper bonding to the base and sides of the tile it is being installed between. Without knowing how keep you are trying to fill, we could say you could try. You may need as much as half the depth of the grout joint available to provide enough space for the grout to set up again. Best we could say is give it a shot. Knowing that all of the previous challenges you've explained will still be present, and likely more challenging to overcome with a shallow grout joint.

Hello! Thanks for your message. The part C powder would constitute this being a "sanded grout" Although if scratching is what you are worried about we always suggest doing a test area first to determine compatibility with the tile. If you are instead concerned about having trouble getting it in to narrow joints, you can pack out up to 10% of the part C powder when mixing, which will give a bit more fluid consistency to get it in to narrower joints. Yellowing Grout could be caused by a number of things, including but not limited to, the maintenance frequency, cleaners being used, and minerals/salts in the water. Pending the cause, it would be suggested to do a deep cleaning of the grout to see if that helps. Products like STONETECH DeepKlenz or STONETECH KlenzAll should help. If this doesn't work then a grout colorant can be used to get the color back to bright white. Info on DeepKlenz: laticrete.com/en/search?searchTerm=STONETECH+DeepKlenz&searchType=General Info on KlenxzAll: laticrete.com/en/tile-and-stone-care-and-maintenance/stonetech-clean/stonetech-klenzall-cleaner

It’s yellow because you used white grout. Anyone reading this, never use white grout with epoxy it will ALWAYS yellow, due to the yellow resin that you mix with. Light gray is your best bet if you want white epoxy.

Reading the Laticrete SpectraLock PRO grout installation instructions, this video misses a couple major items that are clearly spelled out in the install guide. Although the included cleaning agents were (very) briefly mentioned 3:08, this video doesn't make clear to use them for Wash-1 and Wash-2; there's no mention of using white scrub pads to break leftover residue, nor is there any caution about breathing in the silica dust when mixing. Good pointers on use of a grout float in good shape, and how to use tackiness as a feel guide for when to begin Wash-1. But really the video should be re-done to fully reflect ALL the major points on how to use the product.

This guy is dead on about this product. I have used this on many tile jobs around the house, and would NEVER use mortar grout again! To mix I simply use a painter's stick, and while it takes some muscle, avoids air bubbles completely. Unlike regular mortar grout, which leaves a film 3 to 6 weeks after the project is done, this cleans up right away. The two part cleanup process leaves no film whatsoever. But he's right, the song only needs to be damp, not dripping wet. The installers that claim this is far worse that mortar grout either have never used this or are guys that love returning to finished jobs to remove yet another layer of grout film. Yes it's a little more expensive, but once this hardens, it is stain resistant, and never needs to be re-grouted. They also make caulk that looks like the grout so you can finish around the edges where you do not want grout (like a kitchen backsplash around the cabinets). I don't know why anyone would ever use mortar grout again, because this is also waterproof!

A minor niggle, I sure wish you would not have sped the video up when he was mixing and applying and cleaning the grout. The video is only 11 minutes long, I would have preferred 20 minutes with no fast-forward. When he says "mix at :low speed," he knows that, you know that, tile guys with 20 years experience knows that, but a DIY guy like me would like to hear the drill to gauge just how low, low is supposed to be. Also, I wanted to learn the tempo of this very good installer. When you speed the video up, I can't judge how fast he is really working. The mixing, application, and cleaning might be boring to a marketing person, but that is the exciting stuff to me that I want to see in real-time. Imagine trying to teach playing music with sections of the tutorial sped up. Every tile guy is a performer and I want to see the whole thing at normal speed. Meanwhile, I think I will use Specralock 1, and not have to worry about how fast I have to work as much.

This stuff is overpriced garbage. Of course you demonstrate it on a small amount of tile that is flat on the ground. BEWARE! This stuff is not worth the money. It is nearly impossible to install on shower walls because the consistency of the product is terrible. It is too grainy and doesn’t hold together well. Yes it is true this garbage leave a haze if you don’t clean thoroughly but that isn’t the problem with this product it is that it looks like crap and you have too wash it so much that the grout joints look terrible. So if you want terrible looking joints and twice the amount in labor and material cost go for this product. The only benefit to this product is it is really hard when cured.
