Hey Alf, This is great - I'm using your serieso as educational material for my 302 build... quick question about the plastigage: how do you clean it off the bearings and crank journals after the measurement is done?
What brand crankshaft/ bearings/pistons do you like to use or recommend? I have a stock 302 & I bought the edelbrock top end kit: aluminum water pump, timing chain set, aluminum heads & roller rockers, aluminum intake, 4 barrel carb, comp cam w/ lifters. Don't really want to add all that to my stock block parts. Any advice is gold, just like all your videos, many thanks Alf !!
How come u put assy lube only on the engine block side of the bearing before you used the plastic guage and no assy lube on the main cap? Does the assy lube add to ur clearances?
In the chilton manual I read something about end play, along with using a pry bar to hold it at a certain gap. Is that necessary or does the crank sit in place at the 5th main cap?
Good Morning Alex!! Good stuff as usual sir! I forgot all about crank bushing clearances. Great reminder. So on the rear mains, are both rubber seals the same? and does the groved part both face in towards the engine on both of them? Thanks. Hopefully you will do a video on the Rod to crank clearances? Thanks for sharing Brother. I hope to build a 351W stroker (408) to replace my 460 Big block. Waiting on my Pension cash out money. Take care, love and blessings from Motown/Dearborn.
Oh ya the rear main should both be installed with the groove facing towards the front. The next video should be installing pistons and checking the piston ring gap along with rod bearing clearance. So there should be lots of info in there. A 408 sounds awesome, keep us posted if you move forward. Cheers.
