How to keep floor from moving during Laminate and Vinyl Plank Installation

In this video I will show you my best method on how to keep your floor from moving during laminate and vinyl plank installation. This is very important because if the floor moves it makes it more difficult to get the planks together during installation. The little spacers that you can buy just don't work. In fact they are worthless. I share a method that I use on all my installations.

omg! you have made my laminate laying so much easier....i have been struggling with my flooring for two days trying to work in my kitchen with only a tiny bit of wall and the rest cabinets around so no where to but my flooring up to, this is something i will be doing tomorrow! thankyou so much for this video!

Use TapCon blue masonry screws with the appropriate drill bit, usually included, and only the correct bit, and it is the best masonry faster I’ve ever used. It inspires confidence and works easily every time. I have to hang speakers and TVs all the time and often “overhead”, so confidence in your fastener it beyond important. It’s all in the thread design and they got it right.

I have a living room with stupid angles and alcoves and all of yesterday my head was spinning because I just couldn’t figure out how to start (plus I have very little confidence and I’m scared to screw up our expensive laminate flooring 😞) my husband works all day so I’ve been entrusted with this task and I haven’t even been able to put an entire row before hitting issues !! I’ll be sure to check out your other videos because I’m tired of starring at the pack of flooring sitting in my room and literally making my head spin at every darn issue! This method became increasingly important because my walls aren’t the best 1970’s cottage style with uneven every damn thing so using the wall as the starting point was stuff nightmares are made of ! Going to crack on with this today! Thanks again!!!

OMG THANK YOU. I'm doing a 2 stair landings right now and only on row 3 and did a Google. They kept moving. Working in such a small area of 3 x 3 is frustrating

What a great idea! Quick question, we are installing vinyl planks over existing tile, what should I use to secure those guide boards?

+Gissele Tovar you could make your scrap pieces a little bigger to stretch across 2 grout joints and screw through the grout joints. Otherwise u would have to drill through the tile

Great video, thanks! If possible, I'd like to receive help/indications regarding this problem: my laminate has gaps, some of them large, the planks are moving, I don have space in the endings to stop. I try glue, not sure if that will fix. I also have read to use nails... any idea? thanks!

Hey boss I bought a house the previous owner did the floor himself I believe the floor is smooth but not flat it’s an old house the planks are shifting to the point where the tongue and groove‘s are starting to like rip apart and I can’t keep them together and I’m having a hard time finding that brand of floor to even try to replace it will be a bad idea to finish nail them down

Could one just pile up a bunch of the plank flooring still in the box to weigh down the first row? There has got to be another way instead of drilling into the concrete floor.

Wouldn't a double-sided tape such as carpet tape work for holding the stop blocks to the concrete floor?

Is ther any other way to fix the guide board to a concrete floor besides drilling and screwing? I've used your tips to screw down a scrap piece to wooden subfloors a couple of times but I'm about to lay my first laminate floor on a concrete subfloor that has underfloor heating and I'm a bit nervous about drilling into it as I'm unsure of the depth of the pipes. Have you used any adhesive to get the same effect? wonder if that would be a pain to come back and remove when finishing the last rows.

Do I have to use underlay for laminate? It’s a thick waterproof plank that doesn’t have pad. I tried installing with underlayment but I’m having the hardest time getting everything to stay together with movement of the pad..
