People who say palm strikes are ineffective never have taken a proper palm strike. Always go for punches 99/100 times but an effective palm strike as a first strike will disorientate any fighter, especially if you hit them in the head behind the ear with a palm strike.
Only go for a punch to someone’s head in a tournament where you pull your punches. The only places you can knuckle punch somebody’s head is at the brain stem, behind the ear, and under the hinge of the jaw. Anywhere else you might break your hand.
Palm strike is fast and powerful. If you ever played ping pong, be loose and BAM! an overhand slam is similar. Quick and powerful. I can hit harder and faster with palm strike, maybe since less arm and wrist tension? Plus, when your hands are out in a “I don’t want any trouble” stance the palms are right there, ready to strike.
I love your videos sir. Thank you very much. I practice Shotokan Karate but I also love Wing Chun, JKD, Muay Thai styles very much. You're videos are very educational for beginner Martial artists such as I. Thank you for the lessons.
Thanks, very refreshing , at 72 I don't remember without watching & practice. Practice 15min before working on house STOPS old age pain & snap, crackle, pop. Thanks Would you do something on survival slicing & stabbing knife hands. They penetrate.
Sifu Dan : I just came across your videos and already fell in love with the techniques, that you shared. Needless to mention, i "had" to hit the subscribe button to keep myself updated with all your future posts. Thanks & God bless 😊
Hi Dan , love your self defense videos , especially the jkd ones , I have been a life long Bruce Lee fan , but I don't practice jkd at all because I find it to complex , meaning that the body control needed to be truly effective incorporates micro muscle memory training which I think only Bruce himself could master , so I have trained in combat , which is easily and quickly learned because it requires major muscle memory , and Bruce's principals are still followed , as he once said , quote , don't do what I do , but learn from me , end quote , I wish I could talk with you at length on the subject but thank you again , I have more insight about jkd than ever before due to your videos , best wishes to you !
hi dan lok I had not seen this video. those blows in my land is a constubre. almost everyone does it here. it is called outburst, surprise blow. Thank you very much for showing us how to do it. Now how do we find out to block it quickly? Thank you.
Does your wrist flex back to position the bottom of the palm for the palm strike when you swing like a hook. It looks like you wrist is not bent but if you don't bend the wrist isn't that just a slap?
Back of jaw at the bottom of ear, wrist bone fits there & pinky finger should wrap to back of neck. You hit several spots at once = sparks & FIRE !! Practice this and live!!
Hey dan, great videos, keep up the good work, just wondering if you could please make a video on how you would deal with a tall skinny guy with a really long reach who punches in a straight line very fast and stomps with every punch switching between southpaw and orthadox with every punch, so if hes punching with his right hand he starts off othordox and finishes southpaw and vice versa?
Not only does tht slap or anything give power but it doesnt actually work unless the guy is standing still but if u cant take pain in your knuckles then to bad ur gonna get knocked down cuz a slap is a highly chance of breaking or jamming a finger and no one want tht
You have to be careful hitting someone in the chin with an upward palm strike, because if you miss and hit their nose, you can drive the bridge of their nose up into their brain and kill them. Don't throw your whole life away on a badly placed strike or an unfortunate accident! 🐯
What's that move where you ramp someone nose up into their brains 😯 The palm up against the chin looks like it Is there such a Martial Arts Move called "Twisting Tiger "?😲
I usually love your videos, but I strongly disagree. Yes trolls, not Dan, I'm allowed to do that. I have trained in martial arts. I have been in fights in and out of the ring. I Also have extensive training in anatomy and physiology. If palm striking is so superior to punching then why do you even teach punches in JKD. I mean JKD is a self-defense martial art and not a sport and you're saying "street fight" meaning self defense. Speaking of sports if it's so good how come mma isn't throwing them instead of punches? Moving the pad more doesn't equate to more damage being delivered. In fact it's the opposite. Larger surface, more push. Smaller surface, more penetration.
