Reminds me of when I was a kid so my parents still did my laundry. One time my dad accidentally put a red apron into the white laundry so my karategi turned out pink. Luckily it wasn't an expensive one, but it still sucked :D I insisted on washing my gi myself from that moment on :D

Thank you for this information, Sensei. This is Harry Sugimoto from Alberta. I am reminded that many years ago, Salinas Sensei had convinced me that my Gi must always be washed by hand. For many years, I did exactly as I was told. It helped a lot when I bought three Gi at a time and only washed twice a week. It has been nice to watch your videos on home training. Osu.

Sometimes after too much training I had some trouble trying to get rid of "sweat accumulation" with all the brush that the body and body hair do; so seems that some fabrics are better than others to deal with that; but is easier for the Women or for the hairless males (or for the guys that actually do not train hard or some flooring conditions in some clubs) to keep all super clean

Thanks you Mrs. Akita for making this video. This information wasn't available to me when I started karate training many, many years ago. As a result I am sure that I have ruined quite a few karate dogi, or at least shortened their lives. I really enjoyed your tip about the vinegar. Unfortunately I have been guilty of leaving my dogi in my sports bag & shall we just say 'that was not my smartest move'. Request - Could you please advise on how best to wash & look after an obi? Over the years I have even heard that 'you should never wash your karate belt!' But I am sure this must be an old wive's tale as everywhere else in karate Hygiene is so important.
@AkitasDojo
@AkitasDojo 4 года назад
Thank you for your comment and interest! It happens quite easily to forget the Karate gi in the sports bag, so it is also a reminder to ourselves 😅 Regarding the obi: I also heard that you are not supposed to wash your Karate belt. I need to do some research to give a more qualified answer. Right now, our recommendation is to just air dry the obi ( indoors or in the shade to avoid that it bleaches out).

I hope you don't mind that I will use your very good video on our karate club Facebook. We are now just 12 days away from returning back to the dojo following Covid-19, and I want to give members a little 'tap on the shoulder' to help them locate their dogi & obi. Maybe some members will see the excellent Hirota karate uniform & be interested in investing in one.

Thank you so much for your recommendations! Quick additional question: any suggestions for uniforms that already have some yellowing (colar, waist, armpits) and those ugly grey lines on the cuffs? I’ve tried so many different recipes and none seems to work very well. OSs!

You are very welcome😊 The issue you mentioned is a very common one and I agree that not much helps against it. I tried once to remove a stain with a hard brush and ox-gall soap. It took really long and worked but I thought this kind of treatment probably harms the material. So I would not recommend this "remedy" after all. One lady mentioned in her comment on this video to use rinse aid which usually is put into dish washers. She recommended to rub a bit of rinse aid onto the stain and wash it afterwards. I haven't tried it myself and don't know how it works. Maybe you can share your experience with us in case you want to give it a try.

I have bought a Hirota MH 11 dogi about two months ago. The collar has started to turn a little bit yellowish. I have washed my dogi immediately after training since new. Is this discoloration unavoidable? How to restore the whiteness of collar safely?
@AkitasDojo
@AkitasDojo 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for your interest in our video. Do you mean the inside of the collar? It is very common that it turns yellow not much helps against it. A lady mentioned in her comment on this video to use rinse aid which usually is put into dish washers. She recommended to rub a bit of rinse aid onto the stain and wash it afterwards. I haven't tried it myself and don't know how it works. But it sounded as if it could be the solution to get rid of the yellow collars due to sweat.
