MOVE OVER OONA!! (Jk, I could never). Was already brewing a list for him, and was delighted to see this decktech; My favorite little touch on this card is Xanthar's pet goldfish, Sylgar just chillin' in his bowl in the corner. As a lifelong mtg player who's played like 4 total hours of D&D, this is the extent of the D&D easter eggs that i'll prob recognize, but you just have to love the flavor of this set! Rock on, Prof!

My argument for how fair he is will be: "How could you say no to that face?"

Zedruu is my favorite commander for locking out your opponent. Shared Fate forces everyone to play everyone else's deck, while helping you draw more of their cards and gain life if they dare to take your cards. Or, you can run it with Painter's Servant and the on color leeches, like Ruby Leech, calling Red and then giving Ruby leech to the person not running mountains. You can also run Nine Lives, give it to an opponent and threaten mass bounce spells, like everyone's favorite Cyclonic Rift, but also: Displacement Wave, Devastation Tide, Flood of Tears, Reduce to Dreams, and even Sudden Disappearance. Plus Jeskai has plenty of interaction, removal, control, and card draw. As well as some ramp thanks to Red.

my Commander pod instantly went " Sen triplets is better" and i wanted to say something about how much nonsense you can do with all the extra turn cards there are in Blue, or copying him multiple times with Sakashima and the like. But now you have done it for me, thanks Prof!

My dad plays mtg and he loves this card. Always puts half the counterspells ever printed in the history of magic in all of his decks.

I've been playing her in Modern and I'm LIVING for tutoring her out directly with Fiend Artisan before my opponent even knows what to do about her or realizes that the Feasting Troll Kings in my graveyard were always intended to stay there a few more turns while I play Golgari Midrange using artifacts and a zero mana cost wizard. "Golgari Midrange using artifacts" is one of the weirdest phrases I've ever typed.

Honestly all the points you made at the beginning of the video are really fair points. I do play a sen triplets deck and she never lasts a turn cycle anymore. I actually think this beholder card is a lot more fair. It only takes from top of the deck, it’s missing white mana so it’s losing out on some of the best protection and removal spells, and it can’t even stop activated abilities during your turn.

You talk about tunnel vision at 7:00 so I thought you would mention the card "tunnel vision" paired with "hinder" to mill someone out. Pyxis of Pandemonium is also a consideration.

Future Sight for an opponent's library. It's going to be insane and will warrant being archenemy even before being cast. I can see this being an unstoppable value engine when online.

I want to do two builds with Xanathar... the unequivocally "Fair" build and also a fun build which will basically be Eye tribal. Watch people ... roll their eyes... until I drop cards like Jar of Eyeballs and Witches' Eye.

Honestly I ain't even want to play the deck. I just want the card. It just looks cool. Also would love to see the professor make a functional deck around Shessra, Death’s Whisper. I think the card's just bad - but an experienced deckbuilder may think different.

It's a pretty cool deck. Some hints of high power elements but still not that threatning and keeps the game possible for others. Opts out of a lot of the "unfun" stuff and plays lantern-like cards instead. This could have been made a lot meaner with more counterspells, more 2 mana ramp like Arcane Signet and "you don't get to play magic" cards like Back to Basics with a manabase to match. You don't actually need to close the game yourself with this commander, so you can play a purely "winconless" deck since you can just play your opponents stuff. As a long time cEDH player (well, not so much lately), I see what you did prof ;)

5+ mana really is A LOT for a Commander, especially one not in Green, since if you get it removed/countered 1-2 times and you can’t really re-cast it again.. Hence why I try to steer clear of bigger Commanders.

@1:18 Professor, did you see my bad MTG combo post? Because if you had read the comments you would realize Sphinx isn't actually very good in this deck for the reasons you think because the extra beginning phase it gives you happens AFTER main phase 2, so you can only ever use that last trigger at instant speed. Very narrow and should be replaced with Strionic Resonator.

The shit eating grin on this beholder is rather appropriate, since that will be your face when you tell your opponent's "no you can't play the game".

I feel this could have been an Instructor Video but still it is fun to watch

This commander is great for 5 player groups where one person has ran away with the game. You may have one way to equalize the board and if you can stop their counterspell, it makes it everyone's game. That is, of course, only if you play it fair.

With forgotten realms coming it will be really interesting to see the types of decks people make.

Brawl on Arena is going to be even better after this set comes out

I run a blue-black deck based around stealing/copying my opponents' stuff, and they rule-zero'd this as soon as they saw it. Basically banned it as a commander.

Fun fact: if you cast Xanathar and an extra turn spell you can get his effect quicker. I still think Oona would make a better lantern control commander. Still throwing this in my Atris deck for funsies(if it isn’t price gouged by hype).

Its because of cards like this that I run trickbind and sudden spoiling. One turn of this commander as a vanilla creature can allow the entire playgroup to dunk on him. Also, Oko was made specifically for commanders like this.

It always feels that with commander, if you're not playing some kind of mid-range, super thematic, or group-hug deck, there'll always be someone to complain at you for playing anything else that's competitively viable, esp. if it's a Control deck.

I find the lack of our favorite merfolk, which is Hullbreacher, disapointing. Also his friendly Opposition Agent, and ofcourse another fair cards, which is Tergrid.
