I just bought my first sewing machine in January and have been watching many tutorials on how to make a memory quilt/blanket. Yours is BY FAR the easiest to understand - thank you! My goal is to make each of my three children a memory blanket by end of my maternity leave (in six months time...). I can’t wait to give this project a go, thank you 🙏

I’ve never made a quilt in my life. Haven’t touched a sewing machine in a millennia but thanks for helping in giving me the confidence to embark on this endeavor 😊 I’m probably going to practice and make a few non baby clothes quilts first before I take scissors to my baby’s old clothes and what not 😅

Thank you so much for this. I made my son a memory blanket for Christmas, this is the most important gift I can give him. I went crazy and did a massive one, the size of a single quilt, and it took forever. It's not perfect and there are a few noticible mistakes but I am so happy with it. This was the best video I found, trust me I searched through many. The instructions were so clear and I even bought the same ribbon and a walker foot for my sewing machine. I am so happy that instead of his baby clothes in a bag in a cupboard they are now a beautiful quilt that will last forever. Again, thank you so much xxx

I’m a total novice and when my daughter asked if I could make a blanket or quilt with my grandsons first clothes silly me said of course, 😆. Watching you do yours is amazing, I’d never have known about usable interfacing or batting 😳 and honestly I didn’t even know what they were. Seeing you use them I knew I’d need them too. Thank goodness for your video, it now makes me feel confident enough to actually give it a go and know which steps to follow and what comes next in each order. Thank you so much xx

I have more sewing knowledge but I’ve never attempted quilting before. My daughter has lost her 3 week old daughter and can’t part with some of the clothes so asked me to do this. I said, I would look to see if I thought I could then give her an answer. But watching this has put all my doubts to rest, I don’t think it’s that hard. It would be a lot easier with all the fancy tools of course.

Hi There,I absolutely admire your video. It's crystal clear what one has to Do. I have started doing a baby quilt..it's not a memory quilt though..my kids are old and I haven't unfortunately saved anything to make it into a quilt. I have couple of questions. I use a Brother sewing machine. It's really good. But do I need a walking foot for sewing thicker layer of batting, quilt and the backing cloth together. I can imagine how thick it gets as we add layers. Also, I have fusible fleecing and I am using polycotton to make the blocks. Will it be ok to fuse the quilt blocks and fusible fleece together using n iron and it does not shrink on washing. Please answer

I wish I would have seen this video a year ago! I’m still in the cutting and interfacing stage of my baby quilt, and I chose 4 inch squares. I used the square to cut out the interfacing then put the interfacing on the baby clothes, ironed, and cut. They’re definitely not perfectly square and am wondering if they’re going to be unusable or just a little more difficult to work with since I did it that way? My mindset was, there’s going to be overlapping to sew and I can make sure it’s square then 😬

What a fantastic tutorial! So clear and well explained! I keep meaning to turn the bags of baby clothes I have into memory quilts, tgis tutorial is so easy I will get round to it now! One question: Is the interfacing only needed for jersey fabric pieces? Thanks :) x
@CHARLIEPRESENTS
@CHARLIEPRESENTS 3 года назад
Thank you! Yes you only need to interface the stretch materials, but if the woven fabrics are thin you could use interface just to give them a similar thickness to the jersey squares, hope that makes sense and good luck!

Thank you for the lovely tutorial. But could you give a tutorial on how to decide the size of the squares? And could we talk in cm and not in inches? For example. I'm making a 70x100cm baby quilt. How big should I make my squares to make sure I have a 5cm border with the back fabric and enough seam allowance for everything (i.e. the squares and the back fabric)? Thanks!

i have a ton of questions. but first let me subscribe! okay, now that i have subscribed and dinged the notification bell, i am hoping you can help me. i'm about to make a quilt using thicker fabric, as matilda jane, mini boden, and hanna andersen. My questions: do i need a different stabilizer? what kind of backing should i use? this will be a queen size blanket. i guess it's a blanket, so i'm not sure exactly how i will do this. but any answers you can give me would be greatly appreciated. i'm more of a diy crafter, but i do have the necessary tools. hope to hear from you soon !
@CHARLIEPRESENTS
@CHARLIEPRESENTS 3 года назад
Olive Woo you can use the same lightweight stabiliser, that is just to stop the fabric stretching. As for backing you can use whatever you like best! If you can find anything large enough you can join your fabric for the backing! Hope that helps 😊

Hi Charlie! Love the video! We are moving, and I would like to lessen the bulk of our baby clothes by cutting the squares for the blanket. But I will only be making the actual blanket somewhere in the future, must I iron on the fusible lightweight interfacing now, or can it wait to just before I plan on sewing it? And is it possible to add a knitted square to the pile?
@CHARLIEPRESENTS
@CHARLIEPRESENTS 2 года назад
Hi, thanks Chane, it is better to apply the interfacing before you cut, however you could cut them roughly for now, getting rid of the bulky bits that you won’t need, then when you have time you can apply the interfacing and cut them to final size later. I hope that helps and good luck with the move!
