Love idea. I wondered if you'd ever tried taping it down, leaving one side of the tape on, tearing it at the end. Then after ripping, pull up the remaining paper. I find this reduces the chance of twisting the tape and makes it easier to place.

I would just do a 1/4 “ seam allowance, less waste and cutting. Double sided tape is so handy, I use it to secure zippers instead of pins. Keeps everything flat so no wonkiness.
