A step by step guide to making your own whipped beard butter, includes materials required, video demonstration, and detailed directions. You can do this, it's easy and just as good, if not better than any beard butters you can buy. Recipe below:
Blazing Beards Whipped Beard Butter Recipe
Recipe will make 4.2 oz. of beard butter. ml %
3 Tablespoons of Mango Butter = 1 1/2 Oz. 45 36%
4 Tablespoons of Shea Butter = 2.0 Oz. 60 47%
4 ml Jojoba Oil ] ]
4 ml Sweet Almond Oil ] ]
3 ml Avocado Oil ] = 1/2 Oz. ] 15 12%
2 ml Argon Oil ] ]
2 ml Jamaican Black Castor Oil ] ]
6 ml of essential oils = 120 drops = 0.2 Oz
Blazing Scent
40 Drops of Cedarwood 2.00 ml ]
30 Drops of Frankinsence 1.50 ml ]
20 Drops of Lemon 1.00 ml ] 6 5%
15 Drops Cinnamin Bark 0.75ml ]
10 Drops Eucalyptus 0.50 ml ]
5 Drops of Anise 0.25 ml ]
Process/Preparation
1. Measure out carrier oils and essential oils into glass container, stir thoroughly, set aside.
2. Melt Mango butter in double boiler (Pot of boiling water with glass measuring cup inside).
3. Once Mango butter is completely melted, remove from heat, let sit for 4-5 minutes.
4. Add Shea butter to hot melted Mango Butter and stir until completely melted.
5. If necessary, you may put back on very low heat to completely melt the Shea butter.
6. Let mixture sit for 15-20 minutes to cool but not harden. SB warm but not burning to the touch.
7. Add Carrier and essential oil mixture. (if added when butters are too hot, essential oils will evaporate).
8. Mix thoroughly, Stir for 10 minutes alternating directions.
9. Refrigerate mixture for approximately 1-2 hours, until in a semi solid state (mushy but not drippy).
10. Transfer semi solid mixture to mixing bowl.
11. Mix with electric mixer until silky smooth and airy, scaping down sides of bowl intermittently.
12. Put finished mixture into icing bag and squeeze into container of choice.
13. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours to set, until mixture is chilled through.
14. Remove from refridgerator and let return to room temperature.
15. Enjoy your Blazing Beards Whipped Beard Butter.

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for this video. I've just made my first batch of this butter & it turned out great. I made a couple of substitutions - instead of the Jamaican oil & anise, I used coconut oil & bergamot. I also left it unwhipped. Gonna try a nighttime batch with lavender & sweet marjoram. Nice one, thanks again.

Do you use refined sheabutter or unrefined ? I used unrefined and made a 25% try out batch, but even with 'a gallon' scented oil, the smell of the sheabutter is like a rotting cadaver😂

Thanks for watching, I used unrefined but I did not have that problem, you may have had a contaminated batch of Shea Butter. It should have a slightly nutty aroma, but it was unnoticeable in my final product. Refined Shea Butter will work fine as well. Hope your next batch turns out better.

@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 2 года назад
Hi Candice, Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The number of carrier oils is personal preference, however be sure to stay within the total ratio for carrier oils, butters, and essential oils. In my recipe it would be 15ml of carrier oils, 105 ml of butters, and 6 ml of essential oils. I hope that helps.

@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 2 года назад
Hi Dave, Yes, I believe it is worth the time especially if you enjoy creating something useful for yourself. On a per ounce basis it is definitely a great financial decision. It does take a larger upfront payment to buy the ingredients, but you'll be able to make your own for pennies on the dollar vs. buying retail.

are the scent oils neccesary for the base recipe? I'm planning on combining this with my bossman stage coach jelly and dont want to combine too many crazy scents. Awesome video and thanks!
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 3 года назад
No, you can use whatever scent oils you'd like. I love Bossmab stagecoach scent. You may want to reduce the amount if carrier oil and replace it with your bossman oil so the overall ratio of oils to butter is the same. Otherwise the scent would be diluted because the stagecoach scent is already mixed with carriers. Good luck, let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching.

Making your own butter is for those that have more sense than dollars. Or you can buy a commercial product if you have more dollars than sense. Or making you own butter is like cooking from scratch using real ingredients instead of buying something instant in a box full of weird preservatives that will kill you.
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 4 года назад
Partially true, the initial cost of making your own is high because of the minimun quantities you have to buy. After the initial purchase, the cost per ounce is much cheaper to make your own. Many commercial butters use all natural ingredients. Make your own for the enjoyment and pride, not necessarily to save money or avoid preservatives. Thanks for watching brother.

Great how to video from Blazing Beard. Pretty much the same process we use and he is very correct about watching your temperatures. High temps can ruin a batch of quality butters. My only tip would be to melt, mix, and whip in one container that way you don't lose so much product in container transfer. Other than that it was a "Blazing" video. Keep up the great work brother!

I make 2 oz of beard butter at a time as I need it by using 3 tablespoons of shea butter and 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and it works fantastic!! How many drops of essential oil would be appropriate for this much butter? Planning on using lemon EO. Thanks
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 Год назад
Roughly 60 drops, but if it's for yourself and not for sale, you are free to make it as strong or weak as you like. Lemon is a citrus and the scent will dissipate quickly at standard ratios. I'd start at 60 drops, and increase from there. If you go higher you may also want to reduce the carrier oil so as to maintain the consistency of the balm. Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for watching. The pots never touch the oils or butters. Water is in the pot, then a pyrex/glass with the butters is put in a measuring cup which is then put in the boiling water to melt. Yes, I took some on a trip in my car and it melted when I left it in the trunk. Most beard butters will melt at about 95-100 degrees farenheight. Put it in a cool place and it will re-solidify. If it's whipped it will loose its consistency but it will still work fine.

I’m looking into making my own butter as I have some scent ideas and I have to avoid almond oil due to an allergy. Why are the oils considered carrier oils and what is the purpose? I love the consistency of Detroit Grooming butter and want to try and replicate it. I’m thinking of using Shea butter. I’m not sure what other butter to use. Any help would be appreciated.
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 4 года назад
Hi Katz, carrier oils are used to provide healthy nutrients to your skin and hair. They are also used to dilute essential oils that are too strong to use by themselves. In butters, they are used to soften the butter. I personally like a combination of Shea and Mango butters.

Your butters were nice and clear once melted, I wonder if I did something wrong as mine was cloudy 😞 I still went on with the rest of the steps and I'm now waiting for it to solidify in the fridge 😁
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 4 года назад
Hi Tomasz. Yes, your finished product should melt clear. Cloudiness can be caused by poor quality butters or using too much heat during the melting process or by adding your essential oils when the butters are still too hot. Test your butters by taking a small amount without heating and melt it in your hands. If it's clear your butter is OK. Make sure you use the double boiler method to melt the butters (Don't melt directly in pot as this could scorch and result in cloudy butter). Watch them closely and stir occasionally. When they are about 95% melted remove them from the heat, they will melt the rest of the way on their own (Stir). Let the melted butters sit for about 20-30 minutes before adding your carrier and essential oils, stir thoroughly to ensure they are well integrated. Most essential oils have a low flash point, if added in too soon, they will look cloudy when added. Make sure all your utensils are very clean and rinsed really well, soap residue can also make butter cloudy. I hope his helps.
@Tomasz.Nowakowski
@Tomasz.Nowakowski 4 года назад
@@blazingbeardproducts2845 thank you for the detailed reply, I think I may have added the other butters too soon but I'll wait and see what happens after it sets in the fridge. Maybe it's not all lost 😊 I do remember that the melted butters were barely warm to touch when I was adding the oils as I was very cautious with the temperature, maybe my spoon was dirty... If it fails I can learn from it and go buy some chemically safe stirring tools and containers

@@blazingbeardproducts2845 so I whipped the butter anyway. It came out great, the scent is there, it didn't evaporate so I assume that my butters were either not of the best quality or they didnt melt completely. What shocked me is how much it expanded after whipping, I've prepared jars for ~180ml and had to go and grab another 30ml jar to get the leftover bit there. The biggest issue I encountered was the "piping" part as it was melting quite quick, had to refrigerate the bag a couple of times. But, 10/10 will do it again and again. Thank you for the video!
