I can't wait to try this! Just a tip for anyone who ends up with a balm that's a little too greasy for your liking add arrowroot powder. I would start with 1/2 teaspoon and go from there. I use it in my body butter, it's an awesome addition to absorb the greasiness and its natural.

I love Arrow Root Powder. I use it my beard balms and lotiom bars. I also find if you equal out the light and heavy oils, it helps too. I like to use a combination of each. It keeps everything balanced and my balms are silky.

You don't have to use my full list either...you can substitute out Mango butter for Shea butter. Same with the carrier oils...Grapeseed Oil and Almond Oil are great alternates. I use what I have picked up over the past couple years. Its really super easy and you can make the scent much stronger than the OTC kinds for less.

Nice video. One suggestion and one question. Here's a suggestion that will make you're life easier. Get yourself a pyrex measuring cup, it has a spout for easy pouring. Question: have you experimented with the result of the balm with the changing factor being heat? My first time making it yesterday and I watched another guy make it and he had a hot plate and you used your stove. The melt point is so low that you really don't need either one. I ran some water through my coffee maker, poured it in a larger pyrex measuring cup, sat the smaller one inside with formed a perfect seal and I went and did other stuff and in 15mins it was fully melted. I had to do some quick thinking because there's no room in my apartment for a hot plate and it was 95 degrees today. No way I was turning on the stove. Both seem like overkill anyway.

Thanks for the watch, Chris. This type of video won't be my bread and butter, but I was all out of balm and decided to shoot a decent vid with my 'flair.' Balm are super easy to make and shouldn't cost more than a $3 once you get the tins and minimum needed supplies (beewax, a butter, a carrier oil and an essential oil)...the rest is just icing on the cake. Take care.

Awesome man! I’d much rather make my own than pay premium for someone else to do these simple steps for me. Seems like I could get all the ingredients for the price of a couple pre-made tins. Do you have any suggestions for a stronger “hold” for curly bearded folks like myself?
@DocBravo
@DocBravo 5 лет назад
I used 2 Tsp of beeswax...for extra curly/stronger hold, add another 1 Tsp of the beeswax and cut 1/2 the coconut oil (or don't use coconut base at all). One of my first mixes was super heavy on the beeswax 'hold' so you almost had to melt it with the blowdryer prior to use like a pomade. It may take 1 or 2 tries to make it to your preference but your on the right track.

Glad you like video! I put the links for everything in the description box with exception of the beeswax which I I pick up in the bulk bin at local health food store (Sprouts/Wholefoods). Typically online is cheapest...especially with the Shea butter. Thanks for response! Lanolin is very syrup like so it will be interesting to what it does for the overall strength of the hold. I have noticed that Castor is very similar to jojoba and hemp aids a bit of color lol. No almond oil for me...my 5 year old has a severe peanut allergy :(. I’m really eager to try your recipe, Bergamot has a strong overtone (like peppermint) so I’m assuming the cedar has much more drops needed

That was an entertaining demo showing "how to" create a great beard balm. The Bergamot and Lime would make an especially nice beard scent. I enjoy those flavors in tea. I put 10 drops of cedar wood essential oil in the mix but the smell didn’t come through , any ideas as to what I need to do ?
@DocBravo

I would increase the drops to have a stronger scent off the beard. Yeah dude, you probably have some awesome mustache wax going on with your first batch! Ha, all good! Be sure to write everything down so you can adjust accurately between batches. I occasionally get lazy and don't write changes I made to previous recipes and it always comes back to bite when I want to stronger hold or better scent.
