This video is older but I tried this recipe this morning. I make soaps, lotions and just started beard balms. I used yoir ratios, but changed my carriers around. The texture is Soooooo nice! Mango butter is probably my favorite to work with. Your ratios are perfect though. Great video blazing beard ❤

Hi John, I don't see why not. Honey doesn't spoil, it's full of vitamins and antioxidants that are beneficial for your hair. There is a possibility of crystalization and discoloration over time. However, it is unlikely after it is mixed with oils and butters and will be used long before it would age to the point of crystalization. It might also add a little tack for better control. Nice video! I never thought about using two butters. Gotta try that! Refined shea butter does not have much odor, BUT raw shea butter smells like roasted nutty crayons. You should try using grams instead of ounces. It's way more precise and helps keep a consistent product in the long run. Question, do you ever have issues with your balms being grainy? I did in the past, I learned that it all about temperature and the cooling phase.
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 6 лет назад
Gnome Beard Thanks. I've never used weight, but it's only for me and the results seem pretty consistent. The 1st time I made balm it was a little gritty, I had put in in the fridge to solidify. Since then I only let it solidify at room temp. All my balms now come out smooth as silk.

@kellyw.1779
@kellyw.1779 6 лет назад
The gritty or grainy issue comes from the Shea butter being over heated. The way I avoid this is to NOT put it in with the bee's wax and mango when melting on the stove. (I go ahead and add my carrier oils in while gently melting the wax and butters). Get them melted down first, take off the heat for a few minutes and then add the Shea butter. Let the temp of the bee's wax and mango butter melt the Shea butter and then add your essential oils and TA DA!! ; ) No grit or graininess... Great video! Have an awesome day! Hugs from Texas!! : )

Just in my opinion, you cannot get away from using plastics in this day and age. Food, shampoos, conditioners, water, cosmetics, etc, and many beard company products come in plastic containers. Unless you are going to completely eliminate plastics from your life, removing it from just your beard balm containers wont make much difference to the toxicity levels you're getting from everything else. You'd probably have to use 500 lbs. of beard balm from plastic containers, that have been sitting in those containers for years, every day for 10 years before you would notice. If you have glass containers or metal tins, that is preferable,, but don't sweat it if you only have plastic containers. Again that's just my opinion.

All these beard products we have now is making beard growers as tutti fruiti as a gym bodied San Francisco Metrosexual. I applaud those that make their oil beard balms oils and butters. I just use coconut oil spiced with vanilla and almond oil. My beard looks so good, that little kids stare at me like I'm Santa Claus.

Question about coconut oil (maybe you know since I can’t seem to find it online lol) What’s the difference between the liquid form and the butter other than textures. Do they both have the same benefits or does one have a thing or two the other doesn’t? Are they the same but just produced differently so they store differently? I maybe putting coconut oil (liquid form obviously lol) in my diy beard oil, i dont know yet. It really depends on how oily it is and I’ll get to that in a second lol Anyways, I was curious because I may put coconut oil solid in my balm and coconut oil in liquid form in the balm as well but wasn’t sure if I could just skip it and only add the solid form. Anyways I bought some what I feel are ok starters to mess with Beeswax, Shea butter, coconut butter Jojoba (of course lol) grape seed, hemp seed, coconut, and black castor oil (wanting to get sweet almond and vitamin E and argon as well) Anyways, after buying them, I’m rubbing a tad on my hands to see what is the most oily and trying to decide if I want to even use the really oily ones or not. I have a black beard so even the light makes mine shine lol. But the benefits of Jamaican black castor oil maybe worth it and I’ll just have to add a tiny bit lol Sorry rambling, just curious about the coconut oils and the benefits if they are same or possibly diff

Hi Dan, the liquid form of coconut oil has removed some lauric acids(fatty acids) mainly Myristic and palmitic are the two main fatty acids that are removed during the refinement process for liquid coconut oil. The two are known for having bactericidal and antifungal properties, killing harmful bacteria, viruses and fungus. Liquid coconut loses some or all of its scent when it is refined. I personally don't care for coconut oil and have stopped using it after my 1st batch of balm, I replaced it with mango butter which is much less greasy and no odor. You really don't need vitamin e oil, as the other oils you mentioned are very rich in vitamin e to start with. Also, many of the vitamin e oils sold in stores and in many beard oils are synthetically made. Hope this helps.

Blazing Beards thank you and I have done a ton of research since my comment lol I mean from shelf life to the comedogencity scale to rate of absorption etc haha And I wanted to purchase those because I don’t know what I’m going to use or not use etc (but now have a much better understanding haha) I was just curious if day I did use coconut oil in my balm, if it would be pointless to add fractionated coconut oil also. I have decided that my balm should be beeswax, mango butter and possibly Shea butter. (That’s where the experimenting will come lol)

Blazing Beards I prefer more of a butter type balm but am at the point to where I need more hold lol I dont know yet haha I’m so indecisive lol But.....I do know that I’m looking for the least pore clogging, and least greasy as possible because as mentioned earlier the slightest things make my beard look greasy. Which I think I can figure those out quick my main problem is math and percentages haha I struggle with those lol

That’s weird if Walmart sells those blue containers for medications when traveling because it’s illegal to carry a prescription without its label or bottle. Basically it’s illegal to carry pills a few at a time in anything other than the bottle it came in lol Especially now days with the opiate epidemic in the USA. But great video buddy. Was looking into this because I’ve spent way too much money on balms and oils in the two months I’ve been growing a beard lol Whether you keep your beard or not I hope you continue on with the advice and channel

Plastic should never be used when using essential oils essential oils leach from all! Types of plastic ,(stainless steel)or glass only .just a word to the wise(food for thought)

@blazingbeardproducts2845 5 лет назад
Thanks for the warning Kay, I'll keep it in mind, I'm really not all that concerned though seeing that so many balms, butters, shampoos, conditioners, and thousands of other products which use essential oils come in plastic containers. That said, I'll try to use glass or metal tins in the future, better safe than sorry right.

Way way way too many ingredients. It doesn’t have to be nearly this involved. One carrier oil like jojoba and one or two essential oils like cedarwood and rosemary. That’s all you really need. Change the essential oils to whatever scent pleases you.
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 4 года назад
If that's the way you like it, then that's the way you should make it. Of course you can use only one carrier oil, 1 butter, and wax, but you will miss out on the properties different oils and butters provide. Each carrier oil and butter in this recipe has been selected for the specific skin and hair benefits or consistency they provide, as to the essential oils, I love the scent this mix provides.
@GoneFisting69
@GoneFisting69 4 года назад
Why does every single bought beard oil have multiple carrier oils then?
@blazingbeardproducts2845
@blazingbeardproducts2845 4 года назад
Exactly right, different carriers have different properties, like anti fungal, sun protection, anti bacterial, moisturizing, etc. You can use just one, but you'd not receive all the benefits.
