Carla, U r just brilliant! I bumped upon ur one video n am just glued to the series, where u have been making the lives of quilters so easy! I have never heard of you or your technique and none of the 10,000+ quilters who have seen this ever mentioned they had been developed before. But it isn't rocket science, just basic geometry and a willingness to break the no bias edges rule. You shouldn't be so quick to accuse a person of dishonest business practice. If you would reach out via email perhaps we can discuss. If in fact your method is exactly like mine and since we developed independently but you did it first, i would be happy to give you credit as i am sure you would to any quilter who also came up with this before you.

Every quilter I know loves techniques that save time and are better for their project. To think no one has come up with this idea before is absurd. There are very few new things in the quilting world. Certain patterns might..... might.... be unique but they're very rare. To assume the complainer was the first just doesn't fly. The person who accused you of dishonest practices needs to get a grip. You explained this technique beautifully.

The sky fabric is wider so when you cut the units apart there is exactly 1/4" above each point.

Interesting method, and one I have not seen before. While I understand most people would not have an issue with it, I simply prefer not to have the block on bias. Just my opinion. Always good to see more options.

I'm guessing I could make the same piece with individual blocks instead of using strips since I want twenty-four sets of four identical flying geese for my quilt. This idea is incredible!

Wonderful techniques. Does this give a 1/4" on sides so you don't lose your points. I see the top has it but sides look too narrow. Thank you.

Yes all techniques leave a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

How do you sew the geese together and keep the points? It doesn't look like there is a half inch in between them.

Carla, I ordered your shortcut sheets yesterday but I would like to do a practice run on some today. My finished geese need to be 3x6 so should I cut the strips at 5 1/4 for the geese part and 4 inch's for the sky part. And from watching the video why do you add a 3 inch piece of sky on the end of your sew sections? Thank you, Vicki

+Dottie Robbins Sorry I didn't see these comments until today. The best way to ask us a question is via the website. In answer to Vicki's question, I think you may have miss read the fabric cutting chart. Your sky fabric should be 6" and the end pieces 4". Hope that helps.

Dottie Robbins seems to me part of the reason for this video is to demonstrate how her pattern works. If she posts all the dimensions for the geese in this video then why would we buy the product?

This is amazing, great job....but may I ask how do you figure what measurements you would need to do different sizes of flying geese. I need to make 5 blocks of the dutchman's puzzle pattern for a quilt swap that I have entered into. And my flying geese need to measure 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" for a block that measures 12 1/2" any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the largest flying geese unit can you make with this method?

The largest flying geese we list measurements for on the shortcut sheet is 3 1/2" by 6 1/2". The method could be used to make larger units but the waste on the outside of the sheet becomes larger and typically with very large units there aren't many needed for a project.

Loved that! I need to do a block that ask , for one flying geese , before to sew, a retangle with 2,5 inches by 4,5 inches and two squares with 2, 5 by 2,5 inches. So I need 20 flying geeeses. On your way, that I prefer, How wide must be the stripes? Thank you if would, please, help me.

Marla, You should try it! Once you get the hang of it you will actually save time and they come out perfectly every time! I bought the Folder and I am so grateful for all of the useful information crammed inside. Quilting is so much more fun and not as frustrating!
