Hi Mary, I'm proud to announce that my gson nominated u as the sweetest gmother (to my chagrin of course) but he almost snatched the title back because he left the room but reentered at the point when u were demonstrating with the blue canister how it could b used...I observed him growing increasing anxious, until finally he blurted out, "she cremated her own mother at home?" Oh it gave me such a bellyaching augh😃😆😅😅😅 I'm like what? He goes, "u aren't paying attn, she put her mother in the blue urn!" I had to reassure him it was Not ur mother but rather the fermentation of yeast & bacteria in acv. Btw, love your ever so sunny disposition

The apples can be used to make fermented apple juice by juicing some fresh apples and adding the juice to the fermented apples and ferment for 2-3 days and then strain and keep in the fridge. Reuse the apples continously to make more vinegar or grind up and make a lovely apple cake or apple pudding

Mary...there is a video game called "The Long Dark" by Hinterland Studios in Canada.....that is apocalyptic harsh winter survival...there are natural cures and tonics. One of them is rose hip tea😄I shared your rose hip syrup on their page on FB in a comment....

mark burress - I have to share with you that I just read your comment to my husband because he likes games. He likes to play “Civilization”. Do you know it? I like it too. In any event I mentioned the game that you quoted… “The long dark”. He said that our son used to play that! How about that!🤗🤗🤗

Hinterland has updated TLD recently and it's really grown a lot. What I love about is there are no monsters just you, the wolves, the COLD. Hunting, fishing...There are some things I find amusing such as edible cat tail stalks in the dead of winter but the solitude and beauty are astounding. I have watched others in YT play Civilization but TLD is the one im really interested in😁Sorry for overloading with so many comments but this channel cest bon I gauronteee!

One thing to add is to let it age once bottled for at least a month its flavor profile will develop further and taste so much better. If you can wait two months even better.

Last fall, while attempting to make muscadine wine, something went wrong and I had 5 gallons of very tasty vinegar. I was surprised at how good it tasted that it worried me that it may not be safe, because store bought organic apple vinegar is not tasty at all to me. It also has layers and layers of clear jelly mother in each container. It never went cloudy, is that ok? I love the way you have the attitude of, "Do the best you can with what you have". I also love that you answer the "why", questions that I have had such as the 'stir, not stir' and the 'weigh it down' debate. I watch and love Heidi at Rain Country too.

I been wanting to know about this for a long time. When i was a child my grandmother had one, haha, she kept it under the bed, once a year she would take out this huge glass jar strained and bottle out the vinegar, put back the mother with sugar and some sort of liquid. now i think maybe it was water. and back under the bed it goes. we always had really nice vinegar in at our house. I never knew where that gel like thing came from or what it was, but it always caught my attention, all i knew is that i wanted to get one so i can make my own vinegar. Thank you so much, and i am on my way to trying this out. I can hardly wait to see the end results.

Hello Mary! I've been looking for video on how to make a mother! Thank you! It's very detailed! I understand (I think) how to make the mother and more vinagre with the mother. Now, I have a couple of questions: 1. If I want apple cider vinegar, i just add apple juice to a jar with the mother, right? 2. you said that takes months! I thought it would be faster with the mother! How many months? 3. If I use different juices (apple, pineapple, cherry), does the mother not get the characteristics of all of those juices? Thank you for your time!

Hi Mary! great post, this video really helped me out. I am in the UK and I made a batch of apple cider vinegar last year, and left some in one of those jars with the spigot that you described on the countertop, low and behold I looked the other day and I have "mothers" lots and lots of them. I have not fed her or done anything with her, so my question is I have found a wild apple tree where my brother goes fishing, so can I pick those apples, juice them and add the juice to her to make some more cider vinegar? Thanks for your videos I find them super interesting and helpful.

Hi Mary, my husband and I love you, your channel and your amazing recipes! Thank you! We're at day 31 and ready to decant; however, the acv looks more like apple sauce. Do you know why it broke down so much? (I stirred it once per day). It has a ph of 3.5 and smells great. I put it in a cheesecloth over a strainer and it is difficult to get the vinegar out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Lorie

Thank you so much for the kind words!! So glad you’re here. Don’t worry. Your ACV turned out great. The Apples can break down...but strain it through a mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth or a Flour sack towel. Allow it plenty of time to drain and you’ll have great ACV. Love, Mary

Mary, I may have just simply missed it, but I was hoping you could include the information about how to store the cider vinegar, especially if you make a large supply. Does it store better in dark containers?

I just bottled my acv. Before doing so, I noticed in the large jar I made it in, there was a thick gelatinous disc on top. As it was my first attempt at making acv I didn't know what to do with it, so trashed it. I have another large jar of acv ready to be bottled in March, that too has the same gelatinous disc!

Hi, I'm looking for this information! Did you use apple juice or apples? I'm thinking of trying with just water, sugar and apple and the mother with some ACV to kick start . I know I don't need the mother for this, but I like the idea of having the mother staying at the bottom of my croc for years! (?) and just tap as needed (when ready). And in the case of using apples, would you take them out at a certain stage? I'm thinking of using a fabric string bag for easy removal. Would be so happy to hear about this!

Now, thnx to you, I understand what to do with the Mother : ACV, again and again and again. Mother is never tired ! I can't wait to begin my own ACV production :-)) Hugs.
