Ingredients:
Wontons -
36 wonton wrappers
1/2 lb ground pork
1 tbsp green onions, finely chopped
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp low sodium soy sauce
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp white pepper
2 tbsp water
Broth -
6 cups low sodium chicken broth
2 tsp ginger, grated
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
salt to taste
2 tsp sesame oil
4 green onions, finely chopped
Directions:
First, assemble the wontons. To a bowl, add in all of the wonton ingredients. Mix until combined.
To assemble the wontons, grab a single wonton wrapper and place 1 tsp of filling in the middle of the wonton wrapper. With a small bowl of water off to the side, dip your finger tip in and wet all four edges of the wonton wrapper.
Next, fold the wrapper in half, bringing the wet edges together. Press around the filling, pushing any air pockets out of the wapper.
To get that finished wonton look, gently press your finger into the middle of the filling, making a small indent. This will make it easier for the edges of the wonton wrapper to wrap around the filling.
Wet one corner of the wrapper, and bring in the other side, gently pinching both to seal them together. Ta-da! You've made your first wonton! Repeat this process until you have 36 fully assembled wontons.
Set your wontons off to the side and make the broth.
Make the broth. To a pot on the stove, add in all of the listed broth ingredients. Give everything a quick stir. Bring the broth to a boil, then turn down the heat and let it simmer for a few minutes until the flavors of the garlic and ginger are infused into the broth.
Once the broth is simmering, it's time to cook the wontons.
To a boiling pot of water on the stove, carefully add in the wontons in a single layer being sure to stir them so they don't stick to the bottom of the pot. The wontons will float to the top when they're done, this usually takes about a minute and a half to 2 minutes. Using a slotted spoon or mini colander, scoop out the wontons and place them into your soup bowls. Ladle the broth over the wontons, add any additional green onions to the soup if you so choose. Enjoy!
Note: Yes, you can freeze any uncooked wontons and store them in your freezer for later use. Simple place the wontons in a single layer on a baking sheet. Make sure the wontons aren't touching so they don't freeze together. Place the tray in the freeze to freeze the wontons. Once they're frozen, they can be bagged up into freezer bags and stored in the freezer until ready to use. The same can be done to the broth. Make it, then freeze it.
