Ingredients:
Treats -
11 pieces of bacon
10 oz bag marshmallows
6 tbsp salted butter
1/2 tbsp maple extract
5 cups rice krispies
Maple Frosting -
4 tbsp butter, softened
1 tsp maple extract
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tsp milk
food coloring - optional
Directions:
Cook the bacon by following the directions on the back of the package. Once fully cooked, drain the bacon on paper towels and let it fully cool down. Once cooled, set aside 1-2 tbsp for later use. With the remaining bacon, dice up into small or medium pieces. Set off to the side.
Grab a 9X13 inch baking dish and spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Line with parchment paper and give it one last light spray. Set the prepared baking dish off to the side.
To a pot on the stove over medium heat, melt together the butter and marshmallows until fully melted. Add in the maple extract and give it a good mix to fully incorporate. Lastly, add in the rice krispies and diced bacon. Turn off the heat and mix until fully combined.
Transfer the rice krispies mixture into the prepared baking dish. Firmly press down while evenly spreading out the mixture. Let the rice krispies fully cool before applying the frosting. Either place your rice krispies in the fridge to cool down or leave it on the counter top loosely covered until cool.
Make the frosting. To a bowl, mix together all of the frosting ingredients until silky smooth, being sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as needed. Now would be the time to decide if you want to "dye" your frosting a light brown color to match the flavor. I used Americolor gel food coloring to make my frosting look more like a maple color to match the flavor. If you decide not to dye the frosting, it will remain white and might be a shock to those not expecting a maple flavor. Just something to consider, definitely not necessary.
Spread the frosting over the completely cooled treats. If you want clean looking cuts when you go to slice your treats, let the frosting firm up in the fridge for 15 minutes prior to slicing. Enjoy!
