Great video, I just want to share a little tips that I learn to create nice milk texture for latte art using french press. I'm using 150mL fresh milk heated to 55-60 °C and with small size french press (350 mL), then the pumping will done in two steps, the firs step is to pump close to the milk surface to introduce bubbles to the milk 60 times, and then the second step is to pump another 60 but this time pump below the milk surface and a little bit faster to mix the bubble, it's like 3 pumps per second for the first step and 4 pumps per second for the second step, I got pretty consistent result with this method 😁☕

His method seems simpler and works. No need to distinguish between close to the milk's surface and under the milk's surface.

Try the lance Hedrick method, big pumps to start to put air in, then keep the plunger submerged and break up the bubbles, gets you extremely close to the real deal. In fact I find it more consistent than the steam want because I don’t steam often enough.

I've been using Bodum french press as a milk frother for soy and oat milk. It foams up a lot more than what is shown in this video. Bodum has a very well made and sturdy inner sifter which I think makes a huge difference. It can produce foam that is almost like whipped cream.

This video is using a Bodum milk frother, specifically for frothing milk, but I don't think it is much different from a French press to be honest.

@@einsam_aber_frei It goes all the way down and runs easier up and down. But mine creates a big fluffy foam on top of the frothed milk...dunno how to get it all mixed together well.

I think just the way you do it here works the best for me. Tried another method I’ve seen in other videos where they mix little pumps with big pumps(plunger going all the way up almost), but didn’t get as good results as about 100 nice, consistent pumps.

Cool tip: heat to 60-70 degrees CELSIUS so in the press, do 4x giant pumps, 15x medium pumps, and 65 small pumps in the middle of milk, so you get those super small bubbles and get them even smaller :)

I use less milk. and froth it while it is still cold. then put it in the microwave for about 45-50 seconds. the froth will expand to the top and is plenty hot. and as thick as shaving cream (sweet tooth tip) add a packet of sugar to the milk . it's almost like eating cotton candy.

Wow...thank you so much for this video. First I didnt know this was possible and second this explains this thing i inherited. It looks like a french press with a steel cup and the it has 2 filter screens on the pole but when the lid is closed you cant pour anything out of it. You just showed me that its a french press FROTHER not coffee making device..lol thanks cuz i was so close to tossing it. And it works perfectly!!

Dang, I came in expecting to buy a milk frother, but a French press will let me heat my milk up first. Heck yeah! I can waste a few drops of milk. Im old school poe, but I do got it like that. Thank you for this video! Who knew there was chemistry to coffee?! I mean, I knew it was an art, but a science too?! Cool! That’s why I always tip $3 on my $7 latte. If I don’t have $10, I should diy cause people should be compensated for their art and u don’t know who might’ve stiffed em that day too. I just wanna make my own so I don’t have to put on pants to go get a pretty drink.

whenever I try to froth milk with a french press for latte art and pump it even for like 15-20 times it gets really foamy and when I pour the milk in the cup all I am left with is white foam layered in my cup and no coffee is visible and I can't make a latte art and many times it just isn't enough like there is a very little foam on the top and milk is very thin in texture. what to do?

hello, we can't call it a French press. it's more of a milk frother. I tested both, I can tell you that you will not get a good froth with this milk frother for making latte art. the problem is that the diameter of the plunger is not large enough compared to the container, so you really have to do a lot of back and forth before you get a very poor foam. the technique with the real french press is that you have to first give 2 or 3 blows on the surface to incorporate the air, then go back and forth under the surface until the volume of the milk Doubles in volume. Of course with whole milk and maximum 65°
