Thanks! It's 11:30 pm and I was making frosting for a two layer carrot cake and I ran out of icing sugar. I was all set to run to store to beat the midnight closing. No need!!

Great tip. I seldom use powdered sugar but I can now make this as required. Instead of buying a bag and never using it. On that note, do you know the shelf life for powdered sugar? Thanks Matt.

Thank you! Finally, a recipe that uses cornstarch! Because I feel my frosting was a failure because I didn't add it.

You are very welcome! Yes, actual powdered sugar/confectioner's sugar you buy at the store has cornstarch added to it. So it makes sense to add it with homemade powdered sugar. :)

Nice. I jyst saw a recipe that you need powdered sugar for and I am going to see if monk fruit sugar will do the same to gave a low calorie sugar

My focus is would be on “strong” here. I have wasted 4 blenders by trying to make powdered sugar and every time i blamed the blender for not being a good one. Better use a food processor or strong grinder to be honest.

Hi Sam, it make just slightly more than you start with. So if you use 1 cup of sugar, it will make almost 1 1/4 cups of powdered sugar.

What's the difference from mine of which I ate with bread yesterday? This one's texture looks like sand and my one looked like flour

There is no difference, it just depends on how much you blend it. It is hard to tell on camera, but this is indeed powdery like flour.

Hi, granulated sugar is a crystal sugar. Do you mean powdered sugar? Just blend it up like I do in this video, and add a pinch or two of cornstarch to it.

You need a really good food processor. I tries this sort of thing a few years ago. I have what I thought was pretty good device (Cuisinart). But it was a dismal failure. The idea is great though just make sure you have a powerful processor.

I'm wondering if you can make it with dried out brown sugar or cane sugar?

White granulated sugar is cane sugar. :) At least the kind we get here in the States. Dried out brown sugar probably won't work that well because of the molasses in it. Even when try, it just won't get that powdery. But you can always experiment :)

This is a great segment because I just read that some companies use Nano particles in their icing sugar and Nano particles are not yet proven to be safe in food. I am still checking to see which companies use these particles.
