My mom LOVES potatoes ! She's 87 and her grandma was from ...Bavaria ! They would boil ,cook ,fry potatoes ,make dumplings, noodles with... Healthy or not , great- grandma made 96 ! Great grandma

My great grandmother made it to 96 as well.She ate fermented herring,drank pure schnapps every day,and was a heavy smoker.Typical Danish woman of the time,I think.

I n Canada they are called potato pancakes.Where I come from in Braunschweig they are called Kartoffelpuffer. We usually eat them with applesauce but we occasionally also use sour cream. Jewish people generally call them latkes. They are very popular to eat during Hannukah when they are fried with oil. Russians make small ones for special occasions and top them with sour cream and caviar. They are usually accompanied with a vodka chaser. Variations of these are popular all over Northern Europe. My mother used to call them Kartoffelpfannkuchen. Ooohhh so yummy. She would serve them with homemade tomato soup with apple sauce on the side. She would NEVER share her recipes with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your recipes with us.❤️

HI SOOOO yummy! My brother decided they would taste good with mustard!!! And they really do!. Apple sauce is fab too! Potatoes go great with apples. I always grate an apple into my potato salad. Shalom to you in Christ Yeshua.

Bei uns heißen die einfach Kartoffelpuffer. Kartoffeln und eine Zwiebel reiben, mit Ei, Salz und Pfeffer würzen. Evtl etwas Stärke zugeben. Die Masse wie Pfannkuchen in Öl braten. Braun und knusprig müssen sie sein.

My mother-in-law is from Fürth. I will make these for my husband. They look delicious. Food is a balance. It’s fine to eat fats as long as you don’t over indulge on a daily basis. 😌

I fry them in lots of grape oil and a little butter, much healthier and delicious. I also use the German instant oatmeal instead of flour plus a small spoon of flour. That's how we always made it.

Here in Australia we call them "potato cakes". Some recopies use mashed potato. In our family we combine grated potato, carrot, peas and maybe sweet potato. Once we used cabbage. Great with barbecue sausages.

Love your German recipes but I can't have lard so I use olive oil and a little butter. They look great. Hey eggs and potatoes with apples are not unhealthy. I'd eat that anytime :) x

This is not the Rhineland Variant, maybe the Swiss Variant. Because 1st the Potatoes are sliced to big. 2nd you don't need any flour. 3rd Rhinelands would eat it with applesauce or the typical Blackbread and "Zuckerrübensirup".

I have never heard of or seen the variety with sour cream and salmon. Definitely not in Northrhine-Westphalia.

@@darkredvan I'm sorry for that... but i live here and i'm grown up here. So i can tell you. In some areas they also use Pumpernickel at the bottom. This is a more modern variant. But with salmon you can find the receipes everywhere.

You can use any fat that is neutral and that you can easily heat up. In this video i took butter lard

I think the correct English term is 'Ghee', from the Urdu - clarified butter. It doesn't go rancid as quickly as whole butter either.

You can also use regular lard or a neutral cooking oil (not olive) l. Depending on what you are eating along with them, bacon fat, and chicken fat, duck fat or goose fat are also excellent. Butter lard or ghee is quite expensive where I live.
