Thanks Jim, people in New Zealand don't know sloppy joes, but back in the 80s I lived with an American women in Australia and she would make sloppy joes for her kids quite regularly. I loved them but had forgotton about them till now. I am gonna give this a go.All the best mate.
I am so happy to see that you added brown sugar! My grandmother used to add brown sugar to everything, and I do mean everything! Depending on what it was, was how much she would add. She would have even put some brown sugar into the potato salad. Maybe only a spoon full for a family sized bowl, but it would be in there. To this day, brown sugar is in all my dishes as well. I tell everybody it is the secret ingredient! :) JIM you really are a good cook! :)
So i just made this SUPER early this morning for my mom so she could have lunch for work. And HOLLYYYY is it ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I just woke up and i put two fried eggs in it and IT TASTES AMAZING! Im so glad i found you!!

Looks yummy, Jim. My little St Louis Missouri Mother did not know about the flour or the pork n beans, but her Sloppy Joes were tasty, too! As I recall, she liked to add a little chopped green pepper. Thanks for another wonderful view into the Cowboy Way!
+Jim Foreman Because of your video, I just came back from Dollar General Store where I got some pork n beans and tomato sauce and just scrubbed some taters and workin' on this meal. 8-)
We use to just cut up onions and two pounds of hamburger and four cans of pork&beans and have some fried taters and we put fried taters on a plate and put hamburger and pork&beans mixture on top of the tater and done..
the BEST SLOPPY JOE video I HAVE SEEN ON RU-vid. you really got my vote when u added the pork n beans. idk bout all that katcup but Imma try it with a little less katcup
This is the traditional cowboy sloppy joe and they put beans in everything except perhaps peach cobbler. They are the cheapest way to expand a recipe and available everywhere. I've also see them made using elbow macaroni but those aren't usually put on buns. Thanks for watching and check out my other videos.
How many times have you refilled those salt/pepper shakers? Haha. Everybody used to have those at one time or another, they’ve been around a while. Thanks for sharing, hard to beat a good sloppy Joe.
Many times, as far as I can remember, we've had them as long as we've been married. Used to have a set of small ones in the motorhome but left them when we sold it.
Van camps pork and beans is skimpy with there pork, all I've ever seen in the can is that one lonely piece of white fat! Sure is a tasty concoction you got going though, a delicious supper for u and the missis! Thank you for the recipe!
Back during the depression a lawyer, more than likely a bunch of them, filed a lawsuit against Van Camps for false advertising. They claimed that very few cans of pork and beans (actually pork with beans) contained any pork. I don't know if there was some sort of settlement or what but they had people standing on either side of the line where the cans were filled, carefully placing a small cube of pork in each can as they came by.
Mary Spaabeck Well cut up some ham and onions and put a couple cans of pork&beans and have some good hash browns hot and ready on your plate and put the pork&beans and ham over it and enjoy..
Mr. Foreman, I wander if you have ever heard of " wolf at the door "?? It's basically ground beef and a pinto bean with some type of spice . it's old school and cowboy.
Ami Brack I use a tripod on nearly all shots other than those while driving. Trying to cook with one hand is not only awkward but can also be dangerous. Think about the story you want to tell and shoot enough to cover it (you can always leave scenes on the cutting room floor (movie parlance) I use Windows Movie Maker for my editing. It's not the best but fully adequate and easy to learn. The other thing is to keep talking, don't want dead air.
You might have to do some searching but I'll bet you could find a tiny white cube of pork fat someplace in the can. And yes, the price has gone up quite a bit (along with the price on everything else) I can remember when Pork and Beans was 5¢ and Carnation evaporated milk dime. I can also remember working for $2.00 a day.
Uh my sister use to make just hamburger and onions and pork&beans and that's the poor mans food cause it's cheaper and you always can put bread with it if you like.
