Just recently decided to resurrect a Honda build that’s been shelved multiple times over the last 20 years! I originally bought a jdm B18c for a crx si I got on a trade about 20-21 years ago. Fast forward 3 different civics that fell through I’ve finally settled on a 1985 civic hatchback I picked up a few years back. Thanks for all the broad, other guys content! I’ve been stuck on Ls for years now it’ll be fun to get back to my roots.

One of the cars I miss is the 1985 dx Civic that I used a crx si parts car to convert to efi. It had a 12v d series with a mild cam on a first get integra ecu so it had a 7k redline! That thing was so much fun! Put integra torsion bars and brakes on all 4 corners and I had the d16zc to swap into it but never got around to it and sold it in 2006 ish(so long ago I can't remember exactly) but glad you kept your Honda project! Enjoy!!!!

That 85 will flat out hurt some expensive car feelings if you put even moderate power in it lol. Those things are so light they’ll go deep into the 11’s with well under 400whp. Anything much above that gets to be a bit much to handle without some really good suspension work and chassis prep. Fun as hell though!

I remember always having to check the back of integras to make sure that it wasn't a gsr. I got handed my hat many of nights when that vtec would pop. Guys would raise the vtec rpm 7k when goofing off then drop it down to 4k when it was time to play. that was a long time ago!

Isn’t a 2L B series with a nice turbo heaven lol. I remember back in my Honda days, this 12.5:1 84.5x89mm B20V with a gtx3076r was one of the most responsive and fun street car engines I’ve ever built. I don’t know why exactly I transferred my interests over the years to building LS/V8 stuff instead, probably because Honda’s don’t do 1/8th mile no prep work very well lol. But still had a lot of super fun FWD builds. Really in the right chassis even that little 250 HP Vortech B16 could be a blast to drive on the street.

I have a fully built LSVTEC (B18B1 block/B16B head with Skunk2 Tuner Stage 3 cams and supporting valvetrain) with a Garrett GTS3582 turbo running on Hondata S300 V3 and it currently makes 709 whp at 28-29 psi in my 1997 Civic coupe.

Whats the comp on that motor? You got the same cam/valve train package and turbo as I have. But my block is css b20b/pr3 head, type r crank 1956cc @ 14.2:1 static comp. But when I dialled the cams in, the dynamic CR drops to 10.57:1CR on high lobe. I haven't finished the build yet but it'll be on 93+water/meth I'm only shoot'n for 500+/- but those Siamese bores...💥🤣

@@richardholdener1727 you read right... its pretty much left overs from my N/A build, my profile pic! It just needed a bottom end fresh'n up, mains & rod berrings. Made 139tq/238hp @ 9000rpm in N/A trim. Just wanna run 1.1bar pressure to get that 238hp × 2.1(including vacuum) to hit 499.8hp(500ish). With the choice of cams being skunk2 tuner3s 5°degrees had to be pulled from the low cam ign° maps. But considering the dynamic compression drop on the high cam lobe, stock type r ign°timing of 32°degrees could be used Although there was no change in power/back round noise between 28°to 32°, so I wound it back to 28°. Just gonna use the -1°degree per 1psi/boost to get it dialled in for starters. So should have a max of 12°degrees at 16psi/1.1bar boost. 450L/pH & 4×1000cc injs on 93+1000cc of water meth should help with fuelling and IAT cooling.

I understand where you're coming from, but these tests were run in 2005, when recording decent audio and video was far less convenient and much more expensive than it is now. Richard also was writing books and magazine articles back then (RU-vid had just launched that year, and wasn't mainstream yet), and unsurprisingly, was focused more on capturing the data his readers could see, rather than foreseeing how he'd find ways to share it with all of us many years later.

So what are the first steps for boosting a b16a ? Change manifold to itr or Skunk, itr airbox, and then ? Changing cams or camshaft, changing motor parts and boring ? (Meaning the things with no boost add ons like turbo etc)
@richardholdener1727
@richardholdener1727 7 месяцев назад
you just add boost to the stock motor-you will need more fuel flow (bigger injectors)

For a track car which would you choose a stock LT4 or a built 2jz with 3.5l stroker and a turbo producing about 700HP
@Diamondsintherubble
@Diamondsintherubble 2 года назад
Go naturally aspirated 7.0 you can do either ls7/stroker or sbf which is cheaper
@timothybayliss6680
@timothybayliss6680 2 года назад
When you say lt4 you mean gen5 lt4? Its a.good but expensive option. Depends on what chassis and what track for me. I think the lt4 would be a pretty low stress option and even worn out stock 2jz engines are kind of pricy now. Personally i wouldn't do either, i would use an aluminium block Gen4 5.3 with two smaller turbos. 700hp is just boost on a stock engine, the gen4 stock crank and rods.are strong enough for that and it might be the lowest weight option.
@Lokomart
@Lokomart 2 года назад
For a race car your gonna beat the snot out of your best bet is a 5.3 or 6.0 from the junkyard. 78/75 vs, fuel system, trans & a rear end that’ll take the pain then your set. Gen 5 is not viable option yet & 2jz’s are completely different animal all together.
@Diamondsintherubble
@Diamondsintherubble 2 года назад
Y’all are forgetting about an optimal track car. Boost is cheap but nose heavy. Naturally aspirated saves you like 50-100lbs over a turbo(s)
@timothybayliss6680
@timothybayliss6680 2 года назад
@@Diamondsintherubble if youre worried about weight you could always get a judd v10. They weigh less than 330lbs complete and are 775hp. The difference in cost and durability of a 700hp turbo v8 and a 700hp NA v8 is dramatic. One of them you can build with stock longblock components with a little boost that you could daily without worry of the valvesprings, the other needs aftermarket rotating and heads. My idea of a 700hp spinnyfan build literally would need the turn of a knob to make 100 more horses if the tuning was done right. Adding 100hp to a NA ls stroker that is already at 100hp/l is a bit more involved. The difference in cost isnt even close even using real turbos.
