How to make VEGAN CHEESE from oats! It's super quick and cheap!
This is such a great Vegan Cheese recipe - no nuts or soy needed, so suitable for people with nut and soy allergies, plus it's much cheaper too! Thank you chef Jana for the recipe inspiration!
Vegan Oat Cheese
1 cup rolled oats
2 cups cold water
1/2 cup unsweetened plant milk
4 Tbsp coconut cream (from the top of coconut milk tin)
2 Tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
1 1/2 Tbsp white wine vinegar (or use 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar)
3 Tbsp corn starch (or use tapioca, arrowroot or potato starch)
1 to 1 1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp onion powder
1/4 to 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 to 1 tsp smoked paprika
Let me know what's your favourite way to use homemade vegan cheese.

I loved how budget friendly and versatile this recipe is ❤ Last night I prepared it with agar agar and baking powder because I didn't have starch 😅 it's not so firm but still sliceable. Following your suggestion I added extra vinegar and salt besides cumin seeds, herbs and turmeric. My boyfriend loved it! And the recipe gives a good yield around 350gr 😮🌱🧀 Thanks for sharing your creativity 🌈

I am sorry to inform you that I have not yet been able to make vegan cheese from oats. There were similar recipes and in the end I threw everything in the trash. I really liked your presentation and the exact quantities. I was sure that this time it would go well. So I made a double amount and mixed until it was really firm and thick and let it cool. Nothing happened. On the outside it was relatively stiff but on the inside it came out just like spreadable cheese. I was disappointed again 😰. Maybe because I put in a higher pattern (it seems to me twice the height you put yours). I don't know what to do and it's a shame to throw it away again after working hard in this summer heat in the kitchen. I was thinking of maybe putting it in a baking oven in a metal pan to dry it out a bit. Maybe you have an idea? Anyway, I thank you very much! You are kind and I see that you also answer the viewers' questions, which is an important thing.

Definitely don't throw it out! Either use it a spreadable cheese or baking it is a good idea. You can make mini cheese tarts - just pour the cheese mix into pastry cases or silicone moulds and bake for 30-40 minutes, let it firm up after you take it out of the oven. Did you follow the recipe exactly and did you cook the mix for long enough?
@dandush-nj3yj
@dandush-nj3yj Месяц назад
@@HealthOrigins Yes, I put everything as written in the recipe and when I cooked it, it came out even thicker than you see in the video. I could barely move the spoon and when it got to the pan it was really lumpy. So I really put in the small oven with the mold on low heat and it came out a little better. I think that maybe we shouldn't add the vegetable milk and when there are less liquids it will be difficult. Thank you very much for your answer ma'am
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins Месяц назад
@dandush-nj3yj it also depends what milk you use, as some store bought milks have emulsifiers and gums in, perhaps that's what's stopping your cheese setting. I normally use soy milk that is just soy beans and water.
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins Месяц назад
@dandush-nj3yj and the lumpyness I find is removed when you mix the batter with a whisk or you can go in with immersion/stick blender afterwards to make it smooth before setting.

Would love to see more seitan recipes in the instant pot. Your recipes are awesome. I am going to make your pot roast tomorrow in the inst pot. what can I sub beet root with. Food coloring I presume but what other vegetable can I replace the volume of the beet with.
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins Год назад
Thanks for your lovely comment. You can sub beetroot for boiled carrot or sweet potato and a bit of food dye, that should work 🙂

Thank you. I may try this recipe this coming weekend. Need to get some Tapioca starch, I'd love to have a meltable vegan cheese recipe in my back pocket. Quick question: Would Oatmilk be usable, rather than Soy milk? I ask cos I have Oatmilk readily available. Oh, I took your idea of using 1/4 cup toasted and soaked sunflower seeds, and paired that up with 1/2 tsp of Xanthan, and 1/4 tsp of baking powder and I get the best Oatmilk I've tried. It also minimizes settling. I've also just cultured the 5th generation of Oatmilk yoghurt that I ( Following a technique that I saw over on the Skinny Recipes channel ) originally started with the Jalapeño peppers.

Is there anything to substitute the yeast with or can I leave it out completely? i cannot have yeast of any sort. Thanks
@HealthOrigins
@HealthOrigins 16 дней назад
You could use 1 Tbsp of white or brown miso paste (if you can have soy), but adjust the amount of salt, as you will need less. Or if you can't have soy, add 1 Tbsp of tomato paste (it will colour the cheese more red) for that umami taste.
@ChristineLee-nv4bk
@ChristineLee-nv4bk 16 дней назад
@@HealthOrigins Many thanks :) Both are also a no no for me *sigh* I will substitute with coco aminos and see how that goes.

@@HealthOrigins the cheese came out very well thank you :) It's a tiny bit garlicy so I will add less of that next time and maybe a bit more salt. I substituted the paprika for mustard as I can't have paprika. The texture is nice. It's hard when you are not supposed to eat yeast, dairy, sugar, soy, nuts, grains, nightshades, seeds. I'm happy I've found something I can snack on that's very easy to make thanks so much!

Hm, not sure. It should have solidified if you used the same proportions and followed the method. You can use it as a spreadable cheese though, even if it didn't solidify 🙂
