You deserve it. An organized elegant space gets my respect. My living room is full of cats and bows laying on the ground waiting to be sinew backed.

I know this is a old video. But thank you for it. Very informative! I like my set ups kind of plain. Decorations are for show not go. Also this set up works as good for a horse, bike, or on foot. Its one of my favorites besides just a plain old side quiver. I make my strap a little long. I am right handed. I like the quiver on my right side when I'm shooting kind of like a side quiver. So to do this you need a long strap to twist it so the quiver is correct to draw arrows from. However if you wear it across the chest ( horse back) or left shoulder the strap will be too long. From pics of old times I noticed some times a Knott was tied in the strap thus shortening it. Anyways that's how I make mine.

Thanks for the comment, when I use mine I definitely tie mine up in the front like you were saying, It keeps it higher and I wear it with a small elongated back pack for hiking, keeping it a little more vertical helps with trees and brush better.

Hi like video I have been a archer since 7years old am 60 now . Also am horse back archer , I use the same shooting techniques. But have to string bow on ground .I use 60 pound bow can't use technique you describe.40-45 pound bow yes can string bow horse back. Have hunted some pigs horseback using shooting arrows as you describe very effective. Small tip if you have chance to try , release arrow on up or suspension mention of horse .most stable position for accuracy. I use long bow or recurve .both work well.

Yeah, it would have been really cool to see the everyday life back then, it you had to use tools like these everyday, I'm sure would have been really proficient at them to the point of competition. thanks for your comment and view, have a great day!

Hi, I've been puzzling over this for a while. I make bows, lots of bows in a lot of different styles, but if I had to choose only one to make it would be a gull winged horse bow. They make sense: They're compact, elegant, and don't have extra "stuff" that isn't needed... Like clean bobber. Personally, I never hunted with a quiver 'cause I figured two arrows were enough, most of the time, one was enough. So my puzzling is about the bow case/quiver. This has to be the best archery package ever designed, period! I know, or think I know that different hides were used, coyote, bobcat, elk... My question to you would be if you were to make one, would you go with elk or bison? female bison so they would be thinner? Split hides are a modern thing? You mentioned that the day in and day out ones may not have been ornamented to a high degree. That was a really good analogy about the work clothes. Sorry about being so random, but my mind is burned from processing tendons and backing bows. Did three backed bows in the past five days. Thank you.

Mr. Riggs:), sorry it took me so long to get back to you (I had the Flu). I don't carry my quiver on a "Stalk" but I do pack it on the hunt, usually (like you) if I see something I'll just take my bow with 3 arrows and pursue whatever I'm going for. Spits hides are definitely more of a modern thing to be able to squeeze a profit out of every hide for sure, I have a hard time seeing to many natives (back in the day) trying to take a rusty knife and split any hide for that matter, to many other things to do and taking a risk of punching a hole in one or the other of the sides while it was being split. When I was a small child I made a plain's quiver out a pair of old jeans (you could make one out of anything really), but as far as what we would make them out of on the plains would be either a deer or a female bison (younger). The skin would hold a better thinness to it. I've never heard of the use of elk for a quiver, but I'm not saying that it was never done either. we made them out of all sorts of hides. Elk was made good for leggings, rifle case's and other utilitarian needs of that nature, just like some soaps out there, a bar of soap is mainly used to wash one's self and not so much for cleaning dishes for that matter, same with hides I'm sure they had their uses depending what the need was for. I make quivers out of deer, and the reason for it is that bison hides aren't as plentiful these days to the public as deer are, I've seen a lot of Lakota and Comanche quivers that were made from deer, so that's what I pattern mine after. but if I were choosing between elk or bison I would go with whatever is thinner for sure, the reason is it's easier to work with for one, hides have general toughness for sure but working with a thin hide make hole punching and cutting that much easier. the other thing is that a huge flat, long piece of steel can flex of ver distance, but shorten it, and it has a rigidity that has no play, same thing with a hide (for what it is) when the bow isn't in the quiver something that can hang more loosely around the body, not get in the way of everyday life and feel like it's not there (elk hides are heavier) would be the way to go... hope this helps!!

Protecting the hair makes perfect sense, just think how much emphasis modern militaries place on keeping their uniforms tidy.

Chris McCuaig - This is a more elaborate quiver for sure, like I was saying I'm holding more of a "Tuxedo" for the time period as far as quivers go, this one took months to make (mainly the beading) you could probably rig a simple one up in a week or even a few days depending how much time you put into it. Hope this helps;))
