Thank you! I spent loads of time trying all the other options...none worked and I was beginning to think I'd have to break the whole cabinet apart. This worked in less than a minute. So grateful.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! I just tried your suggestion and was so pleased when it worked. The staff at Ikea sold this cabinet to me saying the combination lock was broken. Now I can use it! So very grateful for you sharing your experience. Thanks again!!!
Like many others, I tried a couple other methods that didn't work for me. This one was definitely the best. It took me a couple tries, but in the end it took under 5 minutes. Thank you for this!!
Thank you SO much! I tried the other methods and they weren't working. Yours didn't work for me at first either, but I made myself intentionally slow down and carefully follow your instructions and I felt the lock pop. I'm in! 😃
I'm back seven months later. It happened again, and I'd forgotten which method worked before to get the cabinet open. So I spent time trying the knife method and it didn't work. Then I searched again and found your video with my original comment. Voila! I'm in again! To those who are trying to get their cabinet open, I promise this method works if you take your time.
Worked for me too! Thank you! I'm wondering what the hell happens to those locks. I set my code, closed the lock, shuffled the numbers, tried to reopen with the RIGHT code and it didn't work. WTF?!
Thanks. I tried the knife and the putting pressure on handle tips before this one neither worked. This worked for me. Thanks so much for posting this up. Now to stop my child locking it again! Will try some tape over the combination.
Huge thank you I tried the other ways and I couldn’t do it, but your way it was the easiest. Muchas gracias trate las otras maneras q encontré, la tuya fue la más fácil y efectiva, 1000gracias y que la vida le tripliqué bendiciones
It worked! but I noticed it was hard to do this with one hand so I took a flat small screw driver and pushed the side button all the way it can go and then turned the number dials one by one with other hand and it worked.
From the dates of the videos and the comments, it seems like this method may work best for newer Galants. I tried this method and some of the other methods which were posted in the last 2-3 years, and they didn't work for me (my drawer is from 2014ish). In the end, the knife method worked best for me. But this seems to have worked for people who acquired their drawers more recently! My guess is that this method works best for Galants bought around 2017 or later.
So I couldn't' get it open with any of the videos but I pulled really hard and it opened. The lock still won't move though so wondering if any suggestions with changing the code, once I have the drawer open.
This didn't work for me because the numbers didn't have any different feel from each other when I turned the dial. BUT I eventually got it open almost by accident. I set it back to 000 and pulled on the drawer at the same time I turned the lock, and it released! Voila! Drawer opened. I think the lock is just a wonky design. My handyman can fix ANYTHING with a problem, and he couldn't get it to even set when he assembled it! Got a question: Does anyone know if the lock is also supposed to lock the file drawer, or only the small drawer for pens, etc.?
Did not work. Neither method, by touch and feel. Tried it for some 4 hours. BUT !! ... putting my ear next to the lock, at the same time trying to turn it open, I could hear a distinctive click at each dial. Stethoscope and ski-mask optional :) .
Somehow got the lock to turn without ever setting a combo. So no all my numbers spin freely and I cant open it. I will be destroying this filing cabinet to get inside I'm assuming this trick only works if you can first figure out how to actually set a combination.
Brandon Burnett oh no! I’m assuming you tried this method and others and nothing worked? Try lifting the cabinet on its side and trying it. Or look through the back of it...shine a light through the cable hole on the back and see if something is jamming the door...
Oh no! What year did you buy the cabinet? I assume eventually they will use a different lock system and we will need new peoplet to create RU-vid videos on how to open the newer ones. Try asking a friend to try it.
Not the best way as if your lock is subject to t&r it is difficult to sens when the number is correct. Much easier and faster is just put a knife or screwdriver between the external cover and an internal rotating part of the lock where open lock symbol is and just lift an internal part up and you can open it
