How to overcome fear of flying (Aviophobia)? Here are the top ways to overcome fear of flying. Exposure therapy by far is the most effective method. #flying #fear #aviophobia #anxiety #tips #psychologists #mentalhealthsupport
I used to have a real phobia of flying. But one day I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment took a long time. I went through all the circles of hell - chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Plus a lot of tests. Plus, I saw that the patients with whom I was in the same ward were dying, and new ones were taking their place. This is common in this type of hospital. Then I saw the real fear of death. I couldn't sleep or eat for almost a year. Now I know for sure that an airplane is just a transport and there is no need to be afraid of it.
I have fear of flying. My fear started suddenly I do not even know what had provoked it. When I was younger I used to invent excuses to avoid business trips as they involved flying. However, one day I was offered a position that I knew would involve lots of trips. I hated my desk job so I said yes. I had to overcome my fear going through a literal torture every flight. I have developed a set of coping mechanisms while dealing with this stress like some rituals I performed before every flight but mostly I educated myself on planes and air crashes and why they happened. Little by little I have accepted that a crash is a statistical anomaly and if it happens it's something I am destined for. It took me a year of frequent flying like multiple times every week to get accustomed to this and it was hard. However, it was worth it. I now have some anxiety around take off, flying in stormy weather and such but I do enjoy most of it. As I love traveling I am happy that I can go on enjoying my life without the fear. I was not an extreme case bit it did affect my life so to those who feel like me please do not stop flying and seeing new things even if it scares you, you are stronger than you think and it's just in your head. A small thing that really helped me was a British radio sitcom called Cabin Pressure. It is just so funny and is about planes so I listened to it on flights and it made it less scary for me.
I am not afraid of flying. No one really is. They are afraid of being stuck in a small space they cannot escape, where they have no authority or power to alter the situation should something go wrong while maximizing the potential for catastrophic disaster.
I am flying next two weeks with my two kids and I have a bit of anxiety. I will write again when we are safe back in belgium. 🇧🇪 Its 8 hours of flying to the USA 🇺🇸
*about the hijackers, airport security has HEAVILY tightened since an unfortunate incident. now if there is even a slight chance someone is trying to bring something dangerous, even like scissors, they will definitely find it.*
@@zildian1983 oh, that’s a better way to think of it Thank you so much! :) I have a flight in 2 weeks and I get major anxiety so I’ll think of it that way next time 👍 I always end up making up catastrophic thoughts about turbulence and what can happen in the air but I need to stop but it’s hard 😰
I used to never be afraid of flying. Been flying since 9 years old and, at 19 I started flying alone internationally. Something happened in 2022 (when I turned 24) and I have been scared sh*tless flying since. What happened was that I started watching crash investigations and documentaries, feeding into a fear I didn’t have yet. I stay away from those and remind myself of the times when I was scoffing at turbulence or treating it as a roller coaster ride, feeling at complete peace the whole duration of the flight.
If they showed every car crash that happened, you wouldn't go out in a car, but one plane crash every few years and people are going crazy about flying.
I go through the same thing. I love to travel and vacation and see new places but it makes me very anxious to leave home and to fly. Going on a flight in a little over a week. I hope yours went well and you were able to find calm. And I hope you will on your flight back. Prayers for you my friend. God bless you ❤
@@faithfultotheKing Thank you☺️ It went well, except that we had to wait for two hours in the plane before takeoff. I’m going home in a week, and I pray that it will go well. And I pray your flight goes well for you too and I hope you find comfort:) You got this friend, good luck to you, and God bless you❤️
@@FreddyBadASS mostly just the change. I really hate change. I’m going to my home country to stay for a couple months and im a bit stressed because i won’t be at my house
@larrysmellbutts2002 gotcha, that makes sense, I hate flying for over two hours, and I have a 3 hour flight and a 3 hour layover in Vegas followed by a quick 1 hour flight, so I'm a little bit worried. On top of that, I'll be away from home for a couple of weeks 😃
Yes? And? Birds don't fly that high, but people do? We're bored hearing the car accident analogy because that's not what it's about. I'd rather die in a car accident on the ground quickly or not quickly, than plummet from the sky for 2 minutes hearing a bunch of strangers screaming in different languages.
Helpful video but you can’t read the captions. Please move them slightly higher on the screen. For example , I make out EMDR as it isn’t legible. Still, thanks for mentioning it. I looked it up on account of your video. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t have a fear of flying, but trying to rationalize for example my fear of bugs and sudden loud noises, is like trying to drink the whole Pacific Ocean. I know that house centipedes are very useful, and that moths aren’t actually that bad, but I’m still terrified and go into full panic whenever I THINK there is one next to me
How do you erase irrational fear by understanding how airplane works. Accidents still happen and we are just scared of that. And it’s valid. People can’t erase their fear of spiders that they know are harmless yet flying fear is much more valid. So no, understanding how planes work doesn’t erase my fear.
Im super scared of flying! It’s all started 2 plane rides ago when I got on a plane. It was my cousins first time flying! And it was sooo jumpy and I was so scared. It felt like it was falling. And now I’m scared to get on a plane and I have to get on one in a few months.
If you're scared of flying it's not about flying. It's because you have other problems in your life. Buy me a ticket and I will fly with you. You're not alone.
Fly often as possible an sit everytime at the window and look out. Do this 10 times in a row and you will never be scared of flying ever again. It is simple as that. (Of course, enduring the fear during the first flights is not "simple"). Techniques to prevent or avoiding the fear will make it only worse and is just a cash-cow for therapists.
I’m afraid of being trapped on a plane knowing if I freak out I will be arrested immediately or put in a psych ward. I suffer for hours dying in silence
It’s weird because I’m scared of heights myself but when I go on plane I don’t necessarily feel scared because in my mind I feel safe on a plane and I’m comfortable looking at the view. It’s weird. If I climb then I’m more scared
I did doesnt really make sense how we can get afraid of this because the chances of crashing on a car is way higher than a plane crashing yet we are not scared of going into a car?
we will all die one day. it might be out of your home door or 31k ft high. does not really matter. if its your time , its your time. just stop fucking thinking the worst. 1 out 7.000.000 plane crashes and this will not be yours . LIVE
Lol. This will not be yours… like how do you know? You probably would have said the same to the Airfrance passengers that crashed in 2009. Besides the way you die does matter. No one wants to die in a horrific circumstances so it’s natural to fear. It’s like you are going against human nature saying why should we fear. We just do. We are humans.
I'v been a pilot for 10 years now. What worries me the most, is the landing to the airport.. Only 2 Pilots out of 15 can master the landing. Unfortunately most Planes they break when we land, because it is difficult to master. On landing, that's where we pray the most as Pilots. But you don't have to fear. We will have to die first before we put your life in danger. Just get rid of that fear and enjoy life.
