While listening to this I was thinking about Nelson Mandela's story of when he was on a propeller plane, and one of the engines goes out, others start to panic, and even though he is aware of the danger, he continues to read his newspaper as if nothing is wrong, which has a calming effect on the rest of the passengers. After they safely land, he says to a friend, "Man, I was terrified up there!" but his actions reflected what he wanted out of life, to be a great leader.

My ADHD has stopped me from doing all the things I need to do because I’m so scattered, but when you have to move on the thought in 5 seconds you don’t have time to be scattered! It’s a miracle for me because I always used my ADHD as a crutch, a ridiculous crutch! Thank you for this!!!❤️❤️❤️

What a sweetie you are! (I'm an expert-- ;-) being a teacher, and grandmother to 6! I love your age, that's the level I like to teach. When my two big grandsons were 11, we invited them to your yearly overseas trip--exchanging houses. It was such fun. Now that they are big--one just finished the army here in Israel, the other is serving--in a parashooter's course now--I know I feel especially close to them because of the trips. You English is good! I was in India 1/2 year ago and loved it--Karala. Regards from Israel.

The way I beat self doubt is I find someone who has done whatever I want to do and realize they're no smarter than me so if they can do it I can too. That's how I bought my first motorcycle. My cousins had to drive it home from the dealership. Every morning after work I was on that thing until I figure it out. Here I was 120lbs woman trying to ride this 750 cc motorcycle. Yes l probably fell more times than I care to remember. Yes a few strangers helped me pick it up, but eventually I figured it out. Right now at nearly 60 years old I'm roller blading in the park in 90 degrees weather while listening to this. I don't look pretty but I'm having a darn good time.😉

Girl, the county has classes to teach how to ride! And 750 cc is a lot for us little ladies. Another item off my bucket list. I stopped rollerblading around 45 years old when I fell and broke my coccyx. I’m like you, just a little younger, and I’m building a camper van all alone and about to launch my own business again so I can be self employed and location independent and travel with my doggy.

Thank you for the 5 second countdown. Great reminder and a brilliant flashback. For many (most, or all) of us, counting down was programmed in childhood so this is easily relatable and retrievable from memory. Counting down to dive into a swimming pool, counting down to launch a rocket ship, counting down to get back into your seat (in classroom), counting down to start a race, etc. Counting down was a "call to action" from childhood and I am so grateful for the reminder!

@bethbartlett5692
@bethbartlett5692 6 лет назад
Charlie Grei Are you asking in general or how I do it? Understand that every person on this planet has a soul, we are soul energies having a Human Experience. Energy is eternal (Physics) Thus we have a purpose for this life journey - (worthy) To understand healthy and balanced "self-love", I look at myself in 2 ways - 1) the child I was at about 4 or 5 - I feel love and compassion for that child 2) my work, efforts, giving, caring for others, friends/family, my accomplishments, my spiritual side/my soul, all of these comprise my adult life journey - The pain, and the gain - I respect my fortitude, ethics, and integrity - I look at the challenges and my response to those - I understand my poor decisions - and I applaud my good decisions, I look towards resolving those that need work and I keep in mind I am in a human dimension, with human ego - but I know I must work toward "a Greater Version of me" - I love my value and values. I keep Wisdom and Mature Minded a conscious point of what is right - (as opposed to Adolescent Ego Minded DRAMA) I make an effort to realize we are not all on the same page or chapter, and I attempt to be patient with those whom are - yet to get the mature or life purpose, and I make an effort not to judge - For this, I respect myself and have self worth and self love. Hope this was what you were asking - Thanks -

I find Mel Robbins a good example for the fact that often by instinct you choose a career that has something to do with what your gut tells you you should be doing, even if it's not the right thing. Meaning: Practicing law was not right for her, but looking back, it makes total sense because she is not trying to help people in another way, and she can now use many of the people skills she learned over the years.

There is also a good book by Dr Susan Jeffers: Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway. It's said to be one of the few self-help books that actually work. I've read it a few times - messages like that don't get absorbed in one reading. I come from a negative family. If I listed to my dad, I'd never leave the house. Basically, feel nervous, but do it anyway. I've been teaching for a couple of decades. It doesn't stop me feeling nervous as hell before the start of a new course. But I admit that to my students and they are surprised, but then they perk up because they are nervous, too. So we laugh together and then everyone relaxes.

Mel, my take away from your talk is "The One Thing." You used "The One Thing" on every member of the audience you invited up. This is so simple and yet so profound advise. It made me realize I have to many things going on and overwhelm stops me from doing what needs to be done to move forward. I will prioritize my work and 5,4,3,2,1 take action on that one highest priority activity.

If you have a problem that can be solved with action, you actually don’t have a problem. With competency, confidence appears. It also appears when we take action. Self- doubt, procrastination, these are only habits. By counting 5-4-3-2-1 you activate the pre- frontal cortex, and you go into action. Here's the definition of self- doubt. Its the decision not to. Confidence is the decision to try. You cant control how you feel all the time but you can always choose to take action. 4 traps of self- doubt. 1) Hesitating 2)/Hiding 3) Hyper- critical and 4) Help- lessness. Hesitating. When you are not sure. Uncertainty. It starts with the willingness to try. 2) Hiding is spurred by fear. Procrastinating. Expect it to always feel like a big deal. But what can you do next day that would force you not to hide. You read a book, talk to people, you figure it out. 3) Hyper- critical. Just make a choice to push yourself every day. 4) Helplessness. Triggered by insecurity and low self- worth. You.need to talk specific. Specifically, what does it look like in the next chapter?

Thank you for the message. Really helpful. Really love to see women elevate the world to grow out of circumstances that hold us back from achieving out goals and finding or place on the world and value in ourselves. Thank you so much Mel Robbins.

First time listening to Mel and I felt like we were kindred spirits. She understands what it is like to have self doubts because we are human and through changing some habits we can easily succeed!!❤️❌⭕️❌⭕️Thank You Mel!#MelRobbinsrocks

I LOVE her voice,And her teaching style ,she is being extremely humble because it’s not stupid, I use it !!And I teach it to others.That 5 second rule,Is what gave me the courage the first time I did a comedy routine on stage, I said instead of being in the audience ,I’m going to be on the DAMN STAGE!!

I am unsure, outside of being a parent, what I am doing. Unemployed now due to covid. College again at middle age. I understand her hole she was in. I understand the no confidence and full of doubt. I will try this 5 second rule.

I was struggling with uncertainty today. But I just used this rule to revise a PPT that I have been dreading to revise. I turned it in to my client. Though I know that I might have to revise it again, at least I have revised it once. It'll be easier next time. Thank you for you advice!

I do think she is very good, she has charisma!! Esp now in this era lots of people are really down in the dumps, life is hard now so her 5 sec rule seems like a " wow" factor for alot of people.. I have severe fibromyalgia and disk disease.. and other medical issues.. That rule does not always work for me. lol. but I do hope it helps alot of for all who listen to her. She is really a great speaker.. :)

WyntersFrost A Great Quote I heard from Bob Proctor and it resonated deeply.. I truly believe in it.. A body at "Ease"...Cannot be in "Dis..ease".. I guess you have to truly believe like I do..along with the awareness..knowledge.. understanding..and taking action to resolve the very deep seeded issues that are the ultimate cause for "Disease." Stay awesome Mel...it really suits you..and inspirational to others. !! Thankyou for sharing your story.. x
