Yes - try looking up "steel grey horse" on google image search and you will find lots of greys in various shades without dapples. They do look a little different and tend to grey out more evenly, but you can use the same techniques minus the dappling. :-)
Hair whorls are where the hair grows in a sort of circular pattern. Horses always have them on their flanks (sides), forehead, chest and other places too. If you look very closely at large pictures you will see how the hair changes direction. For the rest of your questions, I think you will be best off looking at the articles on my website and going through the tips on my blog - everything you need to get started is there. :-) The link to Chinook Studios is in my profile and on my blog.
@NoblestuckyFarms The gloves prevent oils from my hands getting on the horse and discoloring the paint. Wearing them also lets me use my hand as a palette without worrying about toxic paint or just getting my hands all gross. ;-)
I know. I meant just doing the black pastel and skipping the dapple process. I know more about Breyers/ customs and paint jobs than you obviously think I do.
Could these tutorials that your uploading do the same thing using pastels instead of oil paints? I have normal acrylic and pastels. Very pretty model!! :)
you make it look so easy! Im not sure exactly what you mean by scrubbing the paint.. is that just instead of brushing with conventional brush strokes? and with less paint? It looks like you're pastelling! :p
There's too much to say to answer that question in the comments, but if you go to my blog (link is in the description) there is lots of information on mixing paints there!
I am actually going to use the method but I am just going to use a spray bottle to do the spots and I have my own Tennessee Walker he is Flea Bitten Grey he is actually my moms I have a sweet, beautiful bay pinto he is so beautiful
yah thats what i meant. not all horses are dapples, and all horses "look fine". if you look at some breyer horse models, more than half of them are either brown or black, and they all look just fine.
