I am learning to watercolour and have enjoyed watching your watercolour demonstrations. Its going to take me some years of practice to be anything like you but I am inspired! Your paintings come to life before my eyes! Thank you for sharing your talent. It is very generous of you.
Dan Sparks Hi Dan thanks for your comment. Trust me in this.... if you buy yourself a sketch book and fill it full of watercolour sketches , paint every day and dont let youself feel inhibited just go with the flow and paint anything, kitchen table , sofa, anything you can see. don't worry if its not looking as you want it to just keep painting. loose drawings you will be painting very well in a short time. Happy painting dan :)
Really fascinating to see the landscape come to life. I think this one is more difficult with the water and the boats. I took a 3 day workshop with a Chinese watercolorist and we only had 3 colors and a spray bottle. Amazing what you can do, as you have just beautifully demonstrated.
Francoise de Rocher That course sounds really interesting do you have a link to his/her page ? would be interesting to see. Thanks for all your comments very encouraging for me.
My niece and I did this one together the other day, it was a great lesson with limited colors, and a beautiful painting. Not as easy as Patrick makes it look, but turned out great! Thanks Patrick
Thanks again for another great demo. I love to watch you paint. Your explanation during the demo is very helpful. I have built more confidence and am excited to "give it a go", as you say.
Keith Payne Thanks keith it always amazes me how much can be achieved with 3 colours. I'm off to the New Forest this week I'm gonig to try a few 3 colour paintings and see how they turn out!
Lisa Canterbury Hi Lisa thank you for your comment. 3 colour painting is a lot of fun and simplifies painting for the beginner. you can achieve a lot with Red, Blue, and Yellow.
+grampajeff1 Yes its amazing what can be achieved with so little we tend to cram so many colours into our pallet without fully understanding what we can achieve with three , thank you for commenting.
Es motivador ver cómo se puede lograr un hermoso paisaje trabajando con una paleta limitada. Sencillas y valiosas enseñanzas las que compartes. GRACIAS.
You are very thoughtful and thorough in your explanations. But I missed how you got your browns or if you mixed them and how. Thanks for a great video...
sue curtis Thank you Sue. I get a lot of pleasure painting boats, sand etc. Its an easy technique to learn and looks quite impressive in a painting. Please come back for more videos in the future :)
Hi Patrick Apologies if I have missed an explanation in this or any other of your videos, but I notice that you use a spray to wet your paper before doing the sky instead of wetting the paper in the most common way with a brush and I wondered what the pros and cons were of this. I've watched most of your videos and can't recall you wetting the paper with a brush, so do you have a preference or does it depend on what you intend to paint? As always you again display a very relaxed but controlled style of painting that is worth trying to emulate.
Cotswolds Retreat I have always used a mister bottle now for many years I just feel i have better control over wetting the paper. I also like the effects you can get using a mister to soften edges . Its something worth experimenting with . I think painting just relaxes me especially when in the studio its a very controlled environment, outside painting is often very different!
Planning a trip to UK, Cambridge in fact for a friend's sons graduation. Would a trip to the coast, this area you've painted, be good for a few days painting holiday? What would I look up to get more info? Do you do any workshops? Too many questions?
I am discovering your videos as I discover watercolor painting. ( I m a pastellist). Thanks for sharing your talent and your knowledge. My problem is for the drawings because you don't give a picture first Do you have them somewhere ? That would be better than making a drawing from your paintings which are very good, no doubt about that. Love the three colours painting of the boats at low tide. Excellent !
