I passed at 4:20 hungover without training which was a terrible idea. There was a LTC who was 40 and finished the ruck in 2:51 which is nuts.

If anyone is wondering, by mile 6-7 your legs will go numb. Mile 7-14 your not even sure if your feet are moving anymore. 14-end not that bad by that time you just kinda accept it. Passed 4:26 🤘

I’ve never rucked more than 10 miles (since basic). But I’ve been training for the 18.6 miler. So far the longest I’ve rucked has been (Airborne shuffling) 7 1/2. This Saturday I. Will ruck in the local 10K race. But i plan to start 30 minutes before the gun time to add on distance to my ruck. I’m rucking the race because I traditionally run the race each year. So this will be a new experience for me. Anyway, I plan to do the upcoming Norwegian ruck on April 6. Hopefully I’ll be able to get in 10 miles this Tuesday before the ruck day. To help prepare myself, I do leg strength training before I ruck. I don’t have the time to get in a ruck pass 10 miles. So I appreciate your sharing that we don’t have to ruck extensively to pass. I’ll keep you all posted on my experience.

Did it in 1995 in Bosnia. The serbs gave us slivovic. My feet were hamburger. I remember taking meds with my battle buddies. Didn't figure out the feet untilI I retired. KT or lueko tape on every place you have a blisters. Proud of you to take the challenge.

Just found this video by chance and it brought back memories. For many this march is a huge mental test as well as they really need to push themselves very hard to make it and I am more impressed by the ones that need to fight their own mind very hard to manage to push themselves to pass it, than the ones that do it in a good/decent time but could have done it faster if they had pushed themselves harder. The Norwegian army also demand that you are fully fit for military service the day after to pass the test, so it can at times be a mental test the day after as well. This march/test is something that all soldiers in the Norwegian army are expected to pass. I have done this test/march many times and my personal best is 2 hours and 42 minutes, but that is many years ago now. One I served with, did it in 2 hours and 21 minutes, but many have done it faster than that as well. When I did mine, we always had to use army boots and having our assault rifle attached to the ruck, but I think they now allow running/jogging shoes and no need for having the gun with you as long as the ruck weighs at least 25 lbs. I always made sure to have minimum 26 lbs to be totally sure my ruck would not be underweight when I had finished the run. Very often I have seen that it is not the best runners or the best competition athletes that does the best when doing this march. Multiple times I have seen great runners really struggle doing this march. I have also often seen many soldiers that have built to much muscles in the gym have no chance at passing it. The 25 lbs ruck makes a huge difference for many. It is a great advice to train with a weighted ruck for some weeks in advance if you are not used to it. And a ruck buddy or two can make all the difference for many.

Just did it for the first time last weekend. In my opinion, the first two hours are easy. It's not till you get about the halfway point, that keeping up the pace starts to get hard. I'd definitely recommend using a Garmin or similar, so you can see your pace/speed all the way round the course. That makes it easier to know when you need to pick up the pace, and when you've got some time in the bank, and can take it a bit easier.

Tried it last fall in Poland and failed at 4:31. I later found out that the grader of another group was giving his runners the minimum passing score if they got within 10 minutes of their required times.

I keep finding different standards for the different age/gender groups… is the one in this video accurate for 2023? Specifically looking at female age 42

Why do I see different standards? I’m 30 F and doing the ruck tomorrow, they’re giving me 4:50 to finish. Not 5:15

Royal Marine Commandos who are not Special Forces, at the end of a week of tests including 9 mile speed March Assault and Tarzan course finish of with a over the Moors and Hills 30 mile carrying 35 lb and Rifle in full kit and boots 8 hrs max they are already tired from a week's tests. I wasn't a Royal Marine but they get my respect. I did do the Nymegan March in Holland 25 miles a day for 4:days Lots of Military Units there including the US it a annual event. The Norwegian Forces are very good and that March I take it is the standard one.
