I put some of this year's annual flowers in my raised beds here in the kitchen garden. The plan is to use the cut flowers for beautiful bouquets later. Now it's time to make sure that they're in full bloom when the time comes. That's why I'm pinching flowers in my garden. Watch this video to learn more about how to pinch out cosmos, snapdragons and cornflowers. You can use this method of pinching plants for lots of other projects too of course. I hope you enjoy the video!
Subscribe to my channel for more helpful tips on growing flowers and vegetables. You can for example learn more about flower arrangements, bouquet binding and floral centerpieces.
Or, read my garden blog at sarabackmo.com where I tell you all about my Swedish kitchen garden and how to become self-sufficient in vegetables. I also go through how to create a flower garden at home!

@@Skillnadens If truth be told, I genuinely owe it all to you. Prior to your cosmo video I had no idea one could pinch them. Though in retrospect it makes perfect sense. I had simply never thought of it. So, both I, and my cosmos thank you. ☺️

Love your video and thank you for sharing helpful tip. I live in Canada. I just started to plant cosmos for my first time. They are about 5-6" tall. I moved them from nursery pot to a big pot couple weeks. I think now is the time to pinch all of them. I so excite to that. Wanna share my happiness. Thank you very much.

After watching your video re:cosmos, I did pinched several seedlings i have.Those that I have pinched actually are healthier-looking and have branched out already . I will do the rest tomorrow. Ps. Do you pinch gypsophilia?
@Skillnadens
@Skillnadens 3 года назад
Thank you 🌸 No I don’t pinch that one. Usually I sow directly into the ground and it grows well and fast without pinching. It’s rather short lasting so I don’t bother 😊

Snapdragons can be sown at the same time as your strawflowers outside. They handle the cold quite well (even a bit of snow).

This is my first year of really growing flowers. I haven’t had a lot of success, but some. I have pinched my cosmos and snapdragons. I’m wondering if you want to pinch them for cut flowers? Will they grow stems that are shorter and harder to use for bouquets? In the US we pronounce bouquet like bow-kay. It’s cute the way you say it. I love your gardens!

Hello Sara. First time watching. Love your gardens. I am in Minnesota, USA. The highest percentage of Scandinavians outside of the Scandinavian countries. Your channel makes me feels like home. Can't fully explain it. Do you know what US Hardiness zone you would be? I just planted cosmos for the first time this year. So I will head out to the garden to pinch off. Thanks for the tips. We are in a drought and my garden is suffering terribly. I will watch more videos. Thank you.

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment! It is difficult to translate the zone climate to US. I am growing in Zone 3 Swedish growing zone. If you watch my channel you can probably learn how the climate works here and it may be somilar to yours. All the best! And HAppy Gardening! :)

@@Skillnadens I was able to find it. If you are in Southern Sweden that would be a 6 or 7 US Hardiness zone. You have the perfect zone to garden in. I am a zone 4 which would be similar to Lulea. That is the only city they referenced in zone 4. Interesting. You have a longer growing season then me but I get warmer temperatures in the summer. All so lovely. When I went out to the garden my first Cosmo had bloomed. I didn't have the heart to pinch that one off. 🙂 Simply beautiful gardens you have.
