@@christyplays777 hey girl, sorry for the late reply, but basically after i wiped my external hard drive and formatted it (following to steps in the tutorial), i opened up origin and changed the game library location like in the video. next, i went ahead and uninstalled origin (moved it to the trash and emptied trash) and did the same for the sims 4 (i didn't mind doing this because i backed up my files on a separate flash drive), then i reinstalled origin and the sims 4 back, except instead of downloading the sims 4 into the applications folder, i made sure to click and drag the application into my external hard drive. i did try doing this for origin too, but it started messing up a few days later so currently: i have origin installed on my MacBook, but the sims 4 game and the electronic arts folder are all on my external hard drive. from there you can proceed with the video tutorial. i would also check out the article by bluebell flora that's linked in the description box i think. because it has some extra details in there just in case you run into some issues. let me know how it goes for you!

Thank you so much for making this tutorial!! It worked perfectly. Most tutorials about this subject are for windows so it helped a lot to find one for mac and that, on top of that, was so clear and easy to understand! Certainly hit the like button and subscribed as well. I have two questions though, one is how do you install the game itself on the external hard drive as well?? I'm afraid of making some mistake and ruining the changes that I made thanks to this. And the second questions is how do I do it if I want to install the Origin DLC Unlocker v1 on the external as well? I'm sorry for asking so much but I have been searching and (once again) most tutorials are for windows.

For those having issues reformatting the disk to APFS, I had to first select "MacOS Extended (Journaled)" and then erase it. Then, under "Edit" in the toolbar at the top of the screen, it gave me the option to "Convert to APFS". Select that and if it makes you select a Scheme, choose "GUID Partition Map". This is what worked for my Samsung SSD, so I'm not sure if it will work for everyone!

Thanks for this! Did you know you could also solve the Symlink problem with spaces by just enclosing the file path name in quotes. Like this: ln -s "/Users/admin/Downloads/Work/Weekly reports" . Just giving you an FYI if you ever want to update in the future, although I think your explanation is good now. The quotes method helps if you have loads of spaces in you files, like I tend to do.

hey yes but not too many I have folders for, for hair, clothes, accessories, mods etc. and within these folders a have folders per creator. Some people do the opposite ^^ just whatever works for you. For mods however if its a big mod I won't put it in a sub folder i will leave it in the main folder and smaller mods in one folder

Hello I have a question. I already had the sims 4 folder on my external drive . But now when I open my game , I the game creates a new folder on my Mac and don’t take the folder that I already have on my external drive. What can I do now? Should I do all the steps that you did ? Hello my question is regarding The Sims 4 Packs, that folder in my case it is still on my local drive, but I saw that on your external Drive you had it in there, is it to just manually move this folder? because in my case that's what weights the most but with the tutorial it just moved the Electronic Arts folder and the mods but for the expansion packs in my case they are in Macintosh HD - Users - myusername - Applications - The Sims 4 Packs. I have a 2 TB easystore SSD hard drive to have all my mods saved on the Sims 4. I'm not sure if I moved them improperly, but my game will lag from time to time from the hard drive. Took me 2 hours to figure out but I finally did it, I ended up losing all my saves on the game but still I’m glad I finally did it correctly and I finally got that arrow on the EA doc which I didn’t achieve the first 2 times 😭 but I did now, even if I lost my save I’ll now have 1TB of space to download more cc and mods 🎉🎉🎉🎉 so it’s a sad day I lose my save files, but also a brand new beginning 😅😅

Ok now that I’m trying to open the game after adding my mods again it won’t open? It loads the sims 4 logo but it won’t go further than that? Is there any reason why it’s not loading all the way? It opened before I added mods? Now it won’t go past the sims 4 loading screen

The whole game if you want to install it on the hard drive. If you just want to install the CC and mods just delete the EA folder

I have tried your method and everything transferred over except the sims 4 folder is still in documents and won't move over to my hard drive...It will say Electronic Arts then when I click it just blank does't have The Sims 4 folder with all the additional folders that come inside it and there is no arrow on the one in my documents either so I'm confused and I have been trying to do this for about 4 days I'm so stressed out

Hiii! I have come to the error stating "Your sims 4 is already running" with the error code of ed35e0ea etc. In my game library location it says /Volumes/sims4 1 (even tho i didnt put the 1 there) my external harddrive's name is sims4 like yours. has something similar happened to you? Stuff online isn't helping :(

thank you so much for making this tutorial!! i have fianlly cleared up space from my computer whike still keeping my beloved game. I have followed the process and have sucessfully ran the game on my external hardrive my only issue is only 3 of my CC's are showing up enabled in game, tho there is much more in the mods folder that i have added to my game and shows up in the folder but not in game. Ive tried delating the cc out of the folder and putting the cc back from the backup sims mods folder but it did not work and still only shows 3 cc. How would i fix this?? also, can i unisitall orgin and sims 4 from my laptop or do i have to keep orgin to run the game while i have the hardrive plugged in. Again THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO

Some people seem to have that issue with some CC and mods and idk why 😭 maybe they’re too deep in sub folders? Origin needs to stay on your computer, if you have change the pathway for you game and installed it on the hard drive you can delete everything from your computer except the EA folder

@@GraceSimsDaily thank you so much i think ive figured out the problem, the mods that were showing up for example: Housewife aspriation.package was showing up in game bc before i moved everything to the hardrive I went through my mods and put in captions what the items were for example: ShakeProductions520.package (Womens ripped jeans).and it sems all the ones i renamed the document/file/cc/mods do not show up in gameplay. and the 3 cc's that were showiing up were the ones i did not rename and give captions. Im going to try and troubleshoot and see if deleting the item names and keeping the orginal name of the cc works. in the mods folder, could i sub folder what the items are to keep them organized?

YOU DONT DELETE ANYTHING You keep it that way. If you need to delete mods or CC do it from your hard drive

Hello when I want to move the ea files , the terminal says : directory not empty . And when I want to create the symlink it says : file exists … I already have my whole sims 4 folder in my External drive , because I had a symlink, but the symlink doesn’t exist anymore but idk why. I did all of this exactly as you said and it all worked but my saves and mods do not show up? They are all there in my mods folder and saves folder but when i load the game up they are not there. I even tried replacing them with the copies that i had backed up on my computer. The game is just empty? I’m not sure what to do?

I was having the same issue. You need to go to settings, security and privacy, full disk access, and check terminal then completely exit terminal and try again.

Am I supposed to replace the EA folder in the hard drive with the one that’s in the iCloud with the arrow. Because when i put the mods in the hard drive EA folder it doesn’t show up, but if i put it in the folder with the black arrow then aren’t I just taking up storage on my mac anyways? The folder on your computer with the black arrow doesn’t take storage. You should be putting everything on your drive

Can you delete the origin application and EA folder on your computer, once you’ve uploaded it to the external hard drive? ❤

The app yes the folder no you gotta keep it there but it doesn't take any space :)

so once everything is moved when you get new cc just add it in your drive EA mod folder? With the simlink EA folder in documents do i delete the mod folder in there or leave it?

Correct you add them to your drive and don’t delete the folder from your documents! It doesn’t take any space

Girl TANK YOU!! I’ve had the game itself installed on my external drive for a long time but I could never find out how to move the EA folder. I was struggling bc I can’t play the sims without CC and I had no space left. You saved my life 😂🙏🏽🩷
