Thanks for watching this week’s RU-vid video! I’m curious; what are your thoughts/struggles about pricing your home baking? Comment down below! Get the free Pricing Calculator here 👉 philosophyofyum.com/free-resource-library-for-home-bakers-and-home-baking-businesses/
I love your video and I signed up for the free resource library, but I'm terrible at math and even the cost calculator boggles my mind. I don't know how to calculate the cost of a portion of a bag of nuts or a cup of cereal from a box of Rice Krispies. I need somebody to spell it out for me.
@@kelleymcfadden9675 Hey Kelley! You'll see on the Pricing Calculator there's a section for ingredient costs and there I explain to go to www.cakecost.net/. There you can enter your entire recipe and it helps you to calculate your ingredient costs. Just sign up and click on "new recipe". Copy and paste your recipe according to their instructions, then click the blue "next" button below. Then fill in the costs and package sizes of each ingredient (just check your shop receipt for this or search for the local prices online). Then scroll down and click the "DONE" button (there's no need to fill out the rest of the info). Then you'll see a list with your ingredient costs for that recipe :) Then return to the Pricing Calculator and click the navy blue button "click here for instructions" to see how to use the calculator step-by-step. You've got this!
I was looking into the Kentucky cottage food laws and how to begin selling baked goods and came across your RU-vid channel.I cannot explain my heart of gratitude for your wealth of information. I had procrastinated for so long because of doubt on how to begin with pricing. Although I am in my 60’s I feel it is never to late to begin with the encouragement ,knowledge, and support of people like you. Thank you and God bless you!

Thanks for this vlog! I've recently been thinking about having a bake sale for a fundraiser and have been watching vids on YT for advice. I realize that packaging and pricing, as well as product quality, are what's going to determine the success of my venture, which is why I'm so glad that I've found vids like yours. Again, thanks so much for posting!

I want to keep my margins on point. I feel giving someone 2 extra products (that promotes my products from a category they did not order) over a 10% discount. What are your thoughts on that?
Hi Susie, I truly understand the appeal of discounts, but don't do it because it tends to attract "budget customers" instead of loyal customers who value quality and are happy to pay for it. You train customers to only buy from you when they get a discount. Hope this helps and happy baking xo!
Thanks Aurelia, your videos are so insightful, I started baking from home and was selling, and stopped. I just realized I made a lot of the mistakes you covered in your other video.
That guilt...I'm literally feeling that at this moment. I gave a client a price. They responded to me via whatsapp and I'm too frightened to check their response. 5:11 It's so damn nerve wrecking

Hi!! I’m so glad you made this! I’m a new home baker doing smdecorated sugar cookies and I have started by charging pretty low to get my name out there. But now I am booked and baking 24/7. I don’t feel like I can charge high because I’m still learning. How would you approach this? Should I still charge what my time is worth etc even if I’m not super great at it yet?
Hey Kaitlyn! Congrats on starting your business and already getting so many orders! That's awesome 🥳 If you're fully booked and baking 24/7, that's a CLEAR sign you should raise your prices. Even though you're still learning, your baking is already MUCH better than anything your customers can make, and therefor it's super valuable. You account for lower skill levels in your wage per hour and that's sufficient. You MUST charge what your time is worth yes, if you want to have any hope of having a sustainable, profitable business and want to avoid burning out. Remember, pricing is NOT about your feelings at all. It's JUST about the math :)
I baked for a lady and she expected me to drop everything to do her order and for a cake she would only want to give me 5 euros for it. what do you think of this? I can´t even make a profit.
Hi! It's super frustrating when this happens, I really understand! In situations like this it's so important to remember that all customers aren't the same. This woman is a BUDGET-client, NOT your ideal client. You're not obligated to bake for her and don't owe her any favours. Refer her to a cheap bakery that's within her budget.
Thank you, Aurelia, for this wonderful video. Sending love and good vibes from Bolivia, South America. God bless you in your business and in the blessing that you continue to be to the rest of us. 🤗❤
I have a question about charging for the baking time. Since you're using either gas or electricity to run the oven, do you figure that in some how or just kinda eat that cost.
Hi Brandie, thank you for watching and your questions. You definitely want to add gas and electricity use in the price of your bakes. I find that mostly bakers are undercharging for their bakes, so it is important to address this first. Thank you for a very enlightened and balanced approach to running an at-home baking business! Really love the idea of offering a classic and gourmet version of goods. You’re experienced advice is invaluable and I’m looking forward to using your calculator to price my baked goods! ❤
Thank you so much! Photography is SO important in a Home Bakery because our photos are our "display case" if you will. Our customers can’t walk into a shop and check out our baked goods in person before ordering. It's our photos' job to draw them in and convince them to buy. For me it took about 5 years of trial and error to figure out what works specifically for a Home Bakery - without needing to buy some kind of fancy setup or an expensive camera. I've put it all together in an online course, Irresistible Photography, that you can check out here >> www.homebakerypro.com/photography
You have spoken to my heart and soul. I love making cakes so much but Ive been scared of pricing them properly. I even had to close the business for 3 years because of burn out, I couldnt believe that all that stress and pressure got to me and i wanted NOTHING to do with cakes or my clients. Ive hence lost so many clients but Im starting over with better decisions and hope all my clients come back

Hey Camila. The Resource Library for home bakers (with the pricing calculator) is 100% free. My other courses (like Home Bakery Pro, The Confident Pricing & Profit Kit, etc.) aren't free. But the Pricing Calculator IS and always will be free. I don't appreciate your false accusation and I don't understand why you're so upset.
